Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Sunday

Turns out that Walter Moore was elected Mayor after all - in CD12 that is. According to the LA Times, Moore won 42.4% of the vote to Villaraigosa's 37.3%.  Perhaps Moore should consider moving to Chatsworth instead of France and running against rumored candidates Mitchell Englander and Jim Alger in 2011.

Following his election victory Tuesday, Mayor Villaraigosa's staffers started sending out notices that this win - along with his decent standings in a recent Field Poll - put him in prime position to run for Governor. Though the Villaristas hoped for a landslide, as the SF Gate said, "55 percent against nine pretenders, who most voters couldn't have picked out of a police lineup" isn't it.  In a recent Lake Poll, Villaraigosa comes in second to Jerry Brown and both Brown and fellow contender San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom would have no trouble defeating most of the so-far Republican contenders. Tom Hayden via Celeste Fremon says that Villaraigosa will run for Governor and has an excellent chance.

Speaking of Celeste Fremon in that same piece she has an a-ha moment when she realizes that the reason Laura Chick won't seek Wendy Greuel's Council seat is she's expecting to run for Mayor when Villaraigosa is elected Governor.

Rick Orlov reports that despite the defeat of Measure B, the DWP is going to go ahead with a solar program, without all the shady parts deleted by the voters on election day. That's fine with the No On B folks as long as the DWP offers transparency in the process.

Actress Maria Conchita Alonso - a Venezuelan national - is speaking out about actor Sean Penn's legendary friendship with her homeland's strongman dictator, Hugo Chavez.  Maria says that Penn should "shut up."

John and Ken on another bombastic rant about elected officials and this time it's Governor Schwarzenegger and pro-tax members of the Legislature.  The radio talk show hosts held a rally in Orange County which drew thousands for a tax revolt.  Though most of us agree that the Governor and Legislature's response to our budget woes were basically giving the finger to the people, John and Ken - compared to hosts such as Doug McIntyre, John Phillips and Kevin James - don't have much of an idelogical committment personally and actually phone in part of their performance.  It is has been long rumored that the pair slips out of the studio whenever they feel like it during their final hour and pre-recorded bits fill the remainder of the hour.

Former GOP Presidential candidate John McCain's daughter/writer Meghan McCain finds dating following her father's defeat troublesome.  On one hand if she dates an Obama supporter who rambles on about how the President was a better choice than her fathe, it brings up old hurt.  Yet Meghan often finds herself going out with McCain voters who gush over her father and quote his lines that she says "It’s like someone taking Lisa Marie Presley out on a date and singing Hound Dog in the middle of dinner."

Jerry Brown has a strong Latino base in South California. Antonio won't have a chance against him once all his baggage and the corrupt crap he's pulled inside city hall comes out. Antonio put Los Angeles in the worst shape in the history of this city. Yet, he's failed to do anything to help, has 16 Deputy Mayors making over $130,000 and 93 staffers, 26 city vehicles and is once again out of Los Angeles.

Mayor Sam,

I pretty much agree with everything you post here, BUT John and Ken are the only people that are looking out for the average, hard-working, tax-paying, law-abidding citizens of California. So I would be careful about trying to stir up negative comments about them. Who cares if from time to time they tape a segment for the end of the show? They probably want to "beat traffic" and get home to their families like the rest of us. In my opinion, instead of making a lame stab at them, you should give them more credit for getting thousands of people out to a rally on a beautiful Saturday. I'm sure many would rather have been doing something other than trying to get their elected officials attention at a rally on a weekend. I wanted to go, but had too much crap to do around the house. Yes, I am a John and Ken listener. With all due respect you missed the mark on this one.

Here are reasons why Antonio shouldn't be Governor. He showed up to the Metrolink Crash for the cameras then headed off for the Dodger Game. Yup, a true Angeleno. Thanks to LA Weekly readership is way up.

We are in te worst economic crisist yet the Mayor refuses to have anyone collect over $10 million from 10 businesses who owe their taxes to the city. Then you have El Pueblo, (Olvera Street) in CD14 that has 78 merchants paying less than $1 per square foot. 61 merchants have operated WITHOUT A LEASE SINCE 1987. This is city owned property. This is how LA is being runned by this ignorant Mayor and why we are in a $470 million deficit. He has no clue how to fix anything nor has the brains to think outside the box for solutions. He's out of town again.

Of course CD 12 would vote for Walter Moore. They are the Republican rednecks of the city. They are one step away from Simi or Santa Clarita Valley, where people run to get away from the MEXICANS. I bet half this blog is from that district, or at least the "haters". They cried about over-development and then elected Bernson over and over. Then they needed some change I guess, so they elected Bernson's chief of staff! They aren't the brightest district, that's for sure.

Hey Celeste is a bright woman. How come she was the last one to know what Chick was doing? I thought everyone knew. I see you all saying Garcetti and I'm thinking, "We'll just see about that."

Laura Chick will be the first woman mayor. Sorry Wendy, I know that has been your dream, but Laura will win.

I have yet to see Wendy fight for any substantive change in the city.

She is, apparently proudly, an ally of Antonio's. Her tv commercials identified things she wants to change in the city, but she didn't fix those things as city councilmember.

Maybe she can make those changes now. But that remains to be seen. She earned the Controller position. But I will be damened if I vote for her until and unless she brings major, major qualitative changes to the city.

Until then, I'll take bitter ol' Laura Chick as our next Mayor.

I just recorded video of LAUSD school board president Monica Garcia with her CA EXEMPT vehicle parked in the red no parking zone (with dry cleaning in the back seat). She was talking on her cell phone while driving. My camera cut out, so we'll see if that part is in the video, too.

So remember people, Villaraigosa's LAUSD president Monica Garcia wants to remind parents and kids to follow and obey the rules, even though she doesn't feel the need to lead by example, and is perfectly comfortable driving around talking on her cell phone, parking in red no parking zones, with the dry cleaning in the back seat of her CA EXEMPT car with the ZumaCam rolling.

Maybe she needs to attend a community training and education seminar with Gavin Newsom who was also busted on the ZumaCam parking in the no parking zone.

And don't bother asking how or why Zuma happened to be there to bust her ass. All that matters is that Batman, Spiderman and Zuma Dogg always end up being at the right place at the right time. And that's all you need to know! Batman has the Batsignal. Spiderman has his Spidey-senses and Zuma Dogg has his collective conciousness fueled by community spirt that has been the guiding force pulling him all over town. ;)

Of course CD 1 would vote for Tony Villar. They are the third world trash of the city. They are one step away from Tijuana, where people go to buy cheap stuff from the MEXICANS. I bet half the illegals are from that district. They get screwed by their own leaders and then elected corrupt Latinos over and over. Then they needed some change I guess, so they elected Antonio's water boy! They aren't the brightest district, that's for sure.

why are you still here? why aren't you heading back home to Cleveland?

didn't you say you were staying away? if you are staying, then STAY and keep coming to city hall. dig in and have an impact rather than lie to us about your going away. don't do anything half way. either leave completely or jump back in? you know that you're going to be pulled in full time, so just do it now if you're not leaving.

Some of the people running to Santa Clarita are Mexican, too, you know. Lots of LAPD and LAFD are Latino and like everyone, like to live safely and comfortably, especially a welcomed condition, given the jobs they have to do.

And Ken and John have to be looked at in way like, "whatever gets the job done," manner. You don't have to love them if it works. You can't have your preferred hosts, whoever they may be, doing all these things if they don't already do them on their own. Maybe THEY shoud be criticized since "they" are on the radio and could do the same things to your satisfaction.

It's a very practical way that K&J work, and it works for their ratings, part of staying out of the ranks of the unemployed in radio. If they can take down some politicians as they deserve to be taken down, then it's so much the better. Whatever way they set up their broadcasts, live or recorded, who cares if it's working for them..... it's not like we are trying to get the city council to stay at meetings to keep from losing a quorum.

Glad to see 1:30 pm has everything so rationally thought out. But I still think he's short on making it as a consultant. And this capsule summary totally ignores the fact that there's face recognition that TONY V has and being the incumbent, that will help to get the votes from anywhere he runs, except for the few who bother to check more deeeply for any of Tony's real merit.

That goes for any incumbent and reinforces the idea that voters did not get sold on anyone else, that it, the ones who came out to vote and not just stay home and complain that things don't change. You forget, too, that when you say such myopic things as 'third world trash' you are talking about a district with many U.S. citizens, a prerequisite for being voters. Several generations of Mexican Americans among them and the blanket summary is as accurate as it is fair.

I was from that CD, but before it was CD-1 as it is, more like Snyder's days, and may have been voting for a longer time than you have years in L.A. yourself- many have long-standing roots in L.A., which is not usually recognized when dwelling on the negative perceptions of Latinos.

ZD - Monica Garcia is only in office because she's Tony's teammate, getting trained first on staff by Jose Huizar. She really needs to get practical and get the students educated instead of yelling all the time like Roseann Barr used to do.

And if a cop pulled her over for the phone, which they should for anyone doing that, you know the first words out of her mouth would be "I the LAUSD Board President," for some preferred treatment. Get a hand's-free device at Costco and be done with it, Monica.

Briefly, others tied to Tony who benefit: sister Marylou Villar, Sup.Ct.judge- b/c of him; John Perez, cousin, big boost for his Assembly campaign, and really anyone else who knows him, because that's the real benefit of helping him, you get to ride on his coattails, and they don't want that to stop.

WALTER MOORE... maybe this has been answered already... but can someone tell me why over the past two election cycles, Walter Moore hasn't run for City Council? I would think he would have had an excellent chance at winning a seat, THEN he could have parlayed that into a mayoral run- with greater name recognition, media attention, etc. I certainly salute his efforts, however, I wonder about a David vs. Goliath strategy (used twice now), that- despite good intentions- offers a long shot at winning, at best.

I was there at the rally yesterday along with 15,000 others. At least John and Ken got off their asses and did something. your petty criticism of them leaving the studio, is so childish as to be beyond comprehension. Did you read that on John Ziegler's "Manifesto"?

It is precisely because they don't have a political affiliation one way or the other that they get the ratings they do.

what a snarky little blog this is. I shan't bother coming back. I guess Mayor Sam you make so much money, the taxes don't affect you?

John and Ken are entertainers. They don't even understand half of what they're talking about. They go for the easy, cheap stuff and aren't really looking for results. They get on something for a while and then move on. They accomplish very little. They are all talk.

Put John and Ken in a debate against Doug McIntyre or Kevin James any day. They would be blown away.

In fact - I'll issue this challenge now. If Doug McIntyre and Kevin James are willing to debate John and Ken - and if Heckle and Jeckle are willing to show up - I'll get a place (and no not Sunland Tujugna), get a big name emcee and we'll have a Lincoln-Douglas style debate between H&J and Doug-Kevin.

9:13 am is correct - as well Jerry has a good Latino base in the Central Valley which is a totally different demographic/socioeconomic cultural group than the Latinos in City of LA.

A good chunk of the Latino voters statewide are older people, mostly native and 2nd, 3rd generation, middle class and remember that Jerry was there with them in the 60s and 60s, with Cesar Chaveze, etc. and are sick of the younger crop of pols - not just Latinos but mostly because they feel they reflect poorly on their community - who are generally sleazy (like AV). They will go with Jerry over AV, Gavin or even Garamendi (who has run for governor, what about 15 times now?)
