Jill Stewart writes about the talk over what will happen to Wendy Greuel's 2nd Council District seat once she assumes the Controller position. Municipal law says the Clowncil can either call an election or appoint an individual to serve out the rest of Greuel's term which ends in 2011. Stewart notes that the last time the Council appointed to a vacant seat was in 1966 when the Fourth District seat was handed to Tom LaBonge svengali, the late, great John Ferraro. If an election is not called and an insider appointed a rebellion could very well brew. David Hernandez is making pre-emptive strikes with a tour of Neighborhood Councils starting Wednesday night in North Hollywood and Sunland Tujunga. If that's not enough, a group of angry Sunland-Tujungaistas are firing up their mighty machine to fight any potential shadiness.
LA Weekly picks up on Zach Behren's quixotic quest to try to report illegal dumping via the Department of Public Works' website. About the same time your old, dead Republican mayor had a similar experience reporting some illegally dumped bedroom furniture in North Hollywood via the City of LA's 311 system. Looks Zach shook up Public Works and may have got the problem fixed. How about Zach for CD2?
Like their bretheren elsewhere in Los Angeles, residents in Janice Hahn's San Pedro are livid over increases in parking meter fees and reduction in parking hours. Contra Costa Times
The driver of a Mercedes-Benz McLaren in Sunset Plaza apparently doesn't care they've parked in a red zone nearly blocking a fire hydrant. Why not? Our school board president does it! LA Can't Drive.
LA seems to have a problem handling trains. An MTA Gold Line train goes out of control and went runaway in a tunnel under Boyle Heights. LA Times.

If David Hernandez is going to run for CD 2, then I'm behind him 100%. He is a great guy with decades of community activism and involvement.
I trust him, and I'm sure the other former Mayoral candidates will back me up on that.
He would be a great Council Member to represent CD 2 and I look forward to hearing more details about this potential special election.
Hernandez has had years to attract followers, build an organization, and impress donors. He hasn't done any of that. If he wants to be a serious candidate, this would be a good time to start doing something that appeals to people. Otherwise he's beginning to just look like a guy in search of a job.

Being a great guy you can trust does not mean you have the ability to actually run a council district.
Do you have any real reason to suggest that David has what it takes besides being a great guy?
9:09, that is an excellent point!
My earlier comments on another string about Hernandez seeming to always be on the right side of issues, but never making them come to fruition, was not well received. Somebody pointed out that Hernandez is on such and such a Board, and that doesn't mean much, since I'm apparently on more boards than he is, and raising $33k for a group of children's scholarships, doesn't get them anywhere.
Having good ideas without being able to make them come to life isn't going to cut it. A good cm needs to get things done, and we've yet to see Hernandez doing anything of the sort.
That having been said, I would like to see Hernandez 2.0 get on to council, but only if he is prepared to see his ideas to the finish line. And in first place.

I would like to know what the haters against David Hernandez have done in their community to stand up and fight for something they believe in. They post so much negative crap yet can't really say what they did to make a difference. Go play someplace else dum dums
I spoke to David the other night while he was up in S-T. He does not want to run for CD2, and besides, he doesn't live in the district. He'd get a lot of votes from our neighborhood if he did run, tho. He's got a lot of support here, and we think he can get things done with integrity.

Someone posted that Hernandez raised $33k for scholarships, and I wrote that that is great, but not a whole lot if you're running for Mayor. It's one freaking year at 'SC.
But don't expect others to be as stupid as you are for posting Hernandez's qualifications and not expect them to be scrutinized.
But you have to grow up and accept AV as the Mayor. The man one. Barely, but that's how the game is played. Your guy didn't get half of what Zuma Dogg got. Deal with it. Your guy lost by a LOT. Accept AV. You have no other choice.
But you might as well drop the notion of a recall of him. They couldn't recall Jack Weiss, and they're not even going to try and recall Antonio. Go ahead and try. You will get nowhere and fast.
If the city council had been paying attention they could of called for a Special Election to be held on May 19th instead of September. Code calls for a 60 day period prior to the election and when it is voted upon by the council. Had they stayed focused, we could of avoided the cost of an additional election and had it with the run off election. Now we will have to pay for another election.
Could this be in the grand plan to go the appointment route in the name of saving us poor tax payers some bucks?
After all don't we need the money for the children?
Meet local LA City icon, "Zuma Dogg" tonight at 9:30pm at the Alamo in Agoura Hills, CA. From anywhere in LA County, take the 101N to Kanan exit. Right onto Kanan. A couple lights to Vons/CVS plaza. Lots of free parking and good zoning. Plus Zuma Dogg will give the people what they want with stunning renditions of "Billie Jean" and "Don't Stop Believing" among other karaoke classics.
