This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

Who's chick?
(No, I really mean that. . . after June 2009, who is Chick?)
She's made the last 8 years about kissing up to the gadflies and contrarians. In 3 months, she's nobody, again and for good.

Who's Amerian? Just one of 500 deputy city attorneys, who's had the nerve to compare himself to Jim Hahn at his age. As far as parentage and name: Amerian's mother worked for Laura Chick as an assistant when she was on the city council, so she just happens to have known him from that. But her endorsement for the underdog will mean nothing in real terms.

Ace Smith in the house!

Why is Ace Smith blogging so furiously?
Because he knows his candidate is in trouble.
This thing should have been a cakewalk for Jack Weiss. But now he's in a real dogfight.
His council colleagues can barely stand him. His constituents despise him. His two main opponents have come from nowhere to be THIS CLOSE to forcing him into a runoff.
It's not you, Ace. It's your candidate. He's not well liked and he is not going to be city attorney.

Why did Antonio back Weiss?--so he can control him like his own special hand puppet.
Why did Cooley endorse Trutanich?--so he can control the city attorney's office and groom Trutanich to be his successor as DA.
If you want to talk about why endorsements are made, go right ahead.

Whoever thinks I'm Ace Smith is nuts. It's just a fact about Amerian, he and Laura Chick together are less than a blip to the public. She's known to certain contrarians, like 3:50 says. Probably will tie with Walter Moore for numbers.
I'm actually liking Noel Weiss, though he doesn't have a chance, and at least Amerian has been on the right track but isn't ready to lead the dept., no way.
It's the Nuch camp that's really worried as their candidate flames out as his real career history and positions start to become known, before he even started to gain steam -- they're screaming unfair about Bratton's endorsements, but the DA pimping for his unknown pal is just great. All his negative campaigning isn't helping him. Au revoir, Nuch. Cooley's stoolie.

11:24 is right about Cooley wanting his puppet Nuch to get on-the-job training for the DA job in 4 years.
But you haven't seen them together in action if you think Weiss is controlled by Antonio or anyone.

Weiss is in big trouble. I echo Zine anyone but Weiss!!!
He was a crappy grandstanding councilman who takes credit for solving rapes all by himself. What a load of crap!!!
Those are some of the most deceitful commercials I have ever seen.
He had to run commercials like that because his own record is nothing you would be proud of.

Weiss is controlled by Antonio, and very completely so; the bidding of his emperor is what Jack is there to do.
City Hall tenure for JACK was all about burning bridges and having Antonio to pull him up.
All the "get tough on crime" video spots by JACK won't mean he's gotten any clue on that.
The only thing JACK is tough about is the way he handles constituents. Maybe it's his defense mechanism to avoid the embarrassment that meeting issues head on could bring him.
"Vote for anyone but Jack" still rings true- and it's the message that's important, not the messenger.
..and Wendy Gruel, yeah, she's just like Jack- "I never saw an opportunistic move by Tony that wasn't deserved; he's my idol" would cover them both.

11:24: Add to your tidy little plot about Cooley and Nuch that Nuch is the lawyer for current City Attorney Rocky, and if he got in there he could hide whatever it is that Rocky doesn't want anyone to see, starting with the workers' comp mess?
Then as he learns on the job getting ready to run for Cooley's DA job, what he really wants to do -- go back to that office as its head -- Cooley can "advise" him by controlling the city attorney's office and doing everything he can to screw Antonio and all the Democrats. Even if Cooley's stoolie loses which he will he's still working toward name recognition for his DA run. Then he could hide Cooley's messes and continue his special relationships like with some known mega-polluters who Cooley won't prosecute because they're big donors. (Who better for THAT job, than someone whose career has been defending environmental criminals?)
It's all so perfectly insidious and incestuous, it's like some plot in a crime novel.

How about Chick will run for mayor in a few years? A run for that CD 2 seat would have been a good holding place.
We need Chick around. A lot more than we need some of the other LA pols.

The thought of Ace Smith blogging here at all, much less furiously is highly amusing.
You are all so funny.

I do like Amerian Commerical ads! He's taking it RIGHT to Weiss.
I also like how Chick didn't go with popular opinion and endorse Jack Weiss.
You Go Chick!!

Anonymous - 2/23/2009 @ 11:42 PM - Henry Ford once said, "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you are right."
Stop talking yourself OUT OF voting for a candidate, and instead talk yourself INTO voting for the candidate you believe is best.
Your vote is important. This election is extremely important to our city. The position of City Attorney is CRUCIAL to this city.
I hope that you will vote your conscience, not vote for who you think will likely win.
