Air Show Over LA

There will be a big show of military air power this morning over Griffith Park, Hollywood and Downtown LA:
Air Force Week "comes to our airspace and ear-space" this Friday, November 14th. Shortly after 11:00am, there will be flyovers by two F-16 fighters, a B-1 bomber, an old B-52 Stratofortress, a C-17 transport and a vintage U-2 spy plane, in the Los Angeles area. The fifteen minute air show will start over the Griffith Park area and proceed over the the Silverlake/Franklin Hills area to a ceremony at the Hollywood andHighland Center in Hollywood. Since the planes will be as low as 500 feet, the Air Force warns,

"...these aircraft are loud, even when in compliance with all FAA altitude and speed restrictions. Additionally, the rising terrain to the north and west will only amplify the noise."

No kidding they were loud! Since we're between 2 mountain ranges the sound was just bouncing.

Now that my ears have stopped ringing from the noise of those planes, I can honestly tell anyone whose hearing has returned that the B-52 was LOUD! I thought it was a jetliner in trouble, and half-expected to hear the sound of a plane crashing.

If there are any graves open in Forest Lawn, you can bet the ranch that the noise woke up a few of the newly dead!
