Walter Moore Reaches Important Milestone

Here's some city related news.

Candidate for Los Angeles Mayor Walter Moore announced Thursday he reached a critical threshold in his campaign to unseat Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in that he has raised $150,000 for his campaign.  This now qualifies Moore for City matching funds as well as gets him into the debates.

If Villaraigosa accepts City matching funds, he will be required to debate Moore.  If he opts not to take the funds and debate Moore, the Mayor will lose up to $1 million in campaign funds.

Moore reaching this level now makes it harder for the mainstream media to ignore his candidacy in campaign coverage.

Whatever you think of Moore or Villaraigosa, additional competition is healthy for our Democracy and voters will have at least two choices.

Ditto on those congrats. I can't help thinking of the Spartan 300 at Thermopolae. How they nearly defeated the Persians, but didn't..

I doubt if Mayor Tony will take the matching funds without also being offered a chance to take to podium and talk. He's so used to being at fundraisers that he wouldn't know how to accept funding from this source.

This reminds me of the behavior demonstration by film clip on monkeys where a jar of treats was available for the taking. The problem was created if the monkey tried to get a greedy full-fist full of treats- the jar opening was too small to allow a full-fistful of treats to pass through and the monkey could not settle for less-than-all to withdraw by each grip. So he just stood there fussing loudly with the full fist stuck as if he was glued to the jar. A behavior dilemma where greed overrides a solution.

So will Tony pass on this and avoid verbal challenges, or will he get pulled into a debate as a consequence of this offered money?

I really can't make the story a true parallel here, but I like using primates when making comparisons to city officials, with all due apologies to the primates mentioned. The primates at least are honest in all of their expressions, including greed. Our politicians sure aren't.

Let's get real.

1. Villaraigosa won't accpet matching funds because he can raise that amount of money without breaking a sweat, and he has nothing to gain by giving Moore free publicity.

2. Moore has done little since his last mayoral attempt to generate grassroots support for himself, and he can't raise money.

3. He would look silly trying to debate the mayor.

4. It's nearly impossible to unseat an incumbent and that's why potential serious candidates decided not to run.

Mr. Moore, please explain to me what your platform will be and how you plan on accomplishing it. I think the people deserve to know what it is you plan on doing, before donating to your campaign. Thank you.

505, Walter's 2009 platform has been available online for more than a year. You can read it here.

That's the point. His platform has been on his website for a year, but nobody knows about it.

It's not enough to post it on a website and hope that people stumble across it.

If you don't have money, and you can't raise money like Walter, you need to be out in the community everyday getting commitments from people and finding creative ways to make your positions known.

I wonder how many people who read this blog and who support Walter, have spent one minute doing field work for him?

Posting comments on blogs doesn't count.

More reasons that Villaraigosa will not expose himself voluntarily to a debate with Moore-

1. He is not the best speaker when he is not scripted. His stutters, stammers, ums, ahs, and other audible mannerisms are more pronounced now than before. Absence of good enunciation like "hunnert" instead of "hundred" and "prolly" instead of "probably" are among the reminders of his background.

2. Most of the public speaking he has done is a one-way format and little or no opportunity is ever given to quiz the mayor to any extent on whatever he talks about. A debate is completely opposite to his experiences so far, and his failure to EVER debate makes him weak in this aspect of speaking.

3. Most of what there is to say about the mayor's term so far is not good and what he thinks that IS good leaves him standing among the minority (of informed people) with that opinion. His strength is trolling for votes among the uninformed, a practice that council members have learned. (A possible explanation of why most of his out of state fundraising is so productive.)

4. He will not be able leave the event when he gets uncomfortable, an option to which he has grown accustomed.

A fellow Latino and former supporter.

4:54 - argument #4 is invalid. The crook (Villar) who is mayor unseated an incumbent (Hahn). How soon history is forgotten.

In the end, the Spartan 300 didn't "nearly" defeat the Persians. They didn't have a prayer.

Their glory came because of how long they held off the inevitable, and how they dedicated every ounce of their energy and every minute of their day to fighting the Persians.

Walter doesn't fit into that category. He's the little guy on the hill throwing pebbles at the Persians every Wednesday afternoon.

I heard the mayor had a big hollywood showbiz fundraising party at brett ratner's this week.

i wouldn't think tony needs matching funds vs walter. walter's matching funds won't impact tony's big machine fund raising.

and i DO happen to think the mayor's #1 goal this season is to avoid a debate with walter.

ZD has heard a big money person who can even dwarf antonio with money has already decided to run anyway.

Thanks for the link. I have some questions maybe Mr. Moore can answer them? How does he intend to pay for 3000 more officers? Mr. Moore states that to improve gridlock we need to build underground parking structures with parks on top. How exactly would he do both of these things without raising taxes? Furthermore Mr. Moore says that businesses should be located closer to where you live. That is bold to say the least. To be quite honest I have a lot more questions now then before.

10:26 pm: Well, vote for Tony if that makes you feel more secure.

You can already see what he's done- but remember, Tony's going to drop his hat into the race for governor when that comes up.

When that happens, you won't see him at work in Los Angeles for weeks at a time while he's fundraising or on the campaign trail- kind of like what he does now.

LET ME EXPLAIN WALTER MOORE. HE AUTHERED "JAMIELS LAW". YET HE HAS PUT LITTLE TIME INTO GETTING IT ON THE BALLOT. HIS ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS STINK! I KNOW BECAUSE I VOLUNTEERED TO GATHER SIGNATURES FOR THE PETITION TO PUT THIS LAW ON THE BALLOT. ON MANY OCCASIONS ON THE RADIO HE COULD HAVE CALLED FOR VOLUNTEERS, DIRECTED PEOPLE TO LOCATIONS TO SIGN, ENCOURAGED BUSINESSES, RESTARANTS,CHURCHES, ROTARY CLUBS, ETC TO HELP. HE HAS DONE NONE OF THAT!! I E-MAILED HIM 3 TIMES AND AT DIFFERENT TIMES WITH NO RESPONSE. HE DID CONTACT 1 VOLUNTEER WHO GAVE HIM IDEAS, BUT HIS RESPONDS WAS HE COULD NOT BE BOTHERED AND THEN INSULTED THAT VOLUNTEER WITH HIS RESPONSE. THIS GUY "MOORE" IS ON HIS OWN PLANET AND WILL NOT RESPOND TO THE NEEDS OF THIS CITY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME TRY E-MAILING HIM AT "waltermoore@mac.com" FIND OUT YOURSELF. WE NEED "LAURA CHICK FOR MAYOR" I HAVE ASKED HER BUT SHE'S RELUCTANT TO SAY.

So then was Hahn also a Ryan Seacrest groupie considering that he was also on his show weekly. That is what Ryan does. He likes to have the mayors on his show. But poor Antonio is a groupie.

It's because most of you simply are uninformed.

Much like Walter. I've read some of his stuff that makes me know he doesn't understand things enough to even try to run the city. He'll never be elected in a town where money rules and IF HE WERE, he would seriously disappoint all of you (on this blog) because he makes promises that he can't keep because he doesn't know how things work and what he would have to power to do and the power to change. He's a loose cannon.

Antonio won't take off to run for Governor. You all just gossip a lot.

Beg to differ w/ "G"'s post. Walter Moore has ALWAYS answered my e-mails and is extremely gracious when thanking his supporters. Please remember Mr.Moore is also a very much in-demand full-time atty. and family man, ON TOP OF launching his campaign for the upcoming mayoral election. Regardless of his position on parks vs. parking structures Walter Moore would rid this city of Special Order 40, rid the city of the perpetually "V-whipped" Chief Bratton as well as rid this city of its diabolical sanctuary status for illegal aliens. And you can bet Walter Moore would NEVER partner w/ ACORN to pull off some 5 billion dollar subsidized housing scam like the deSPICable Tony Villar. You really want four more years of the Mecha mayor? I sure don't. C'mon, folks, let's support Walter Moore. He needs us and WE NEED HIM!!!

ONE QUESTION FOR WALLY HOW IS MOORE GOING TO GET SPECIAL ORDER 40 ON THE BALLOT IF HE DOES NOT PUBLICALLY ASK FOR VOLUNTEERS AND DIRECT PEOPLE WHERE TO SIGN IT. THIS HAS BEEN LEFT TO JAMIELS FAMILY. HIS GOOD FRIEND RADIO HOST KEVIN JAMES ALSO HAS ONLY FOUND 2 SECONDS OF AIR TIME IN 2 MONTHS TO MENTION VOLUNTEERS OR REACH OUT TO BUSINESS OR RESTARANTS LIKE ANDRE'S POSTED ON JAMIEL'S SITE AND 1 ACTIVITY IN OCT.14 A LOT OF LOST OPPORTUNITY TO GET SIGNATURES WITH THE DUE DATE OF OCT.25

Yes I will vote Moore for Mayor. But frankly I'd like Walter Moore to run for PRESIDENT actually, not Mayor. I'd like to see a debate Moore vs Obama or Moore vs McCain, rather than McCain vs Obama. At least Walter would fight the war we have at home, the war versus Mexico, which none of the two clowns have the guts to engage in. Wake up Americans or else in 1-2 generations the Southwest will be gone and people will be all sorry
