Councilman Jose Huizar to attend City of Commerce Rally against proposed Vernon Power Plant
This community update on a future "COUNCILMAN LAST SEEN AS JOSE HUIZAR" event.
Candlelight Vigil Against the Vernon Power Plant
Tuesday, September 30, 20087:00 pm- 8:30pm
Rosewood Park
5600 Harbor St. City of Commerce, CA
Join Councilmember Huizar and the Resurrection Neighborhood Watch Group as they partner with the City of Commerce, City of Huntington Park, various environmental groups, and concerned residents in the fight against the Vernon Power Plant. This Candlelight Vigil will be held to exemplify the solidarity among Eastside residents as together they say NO to more pollution in the Eastside.
Some have stated that the "COUNCILMAN LAST SEEN AS JOSE HUIZAR" is simply "piggy backing" off the hard work of the likes of Resurrection Church and civic leaders in the City of Commerce, to show some "greenish commitment" ( that is not related to his pursuit of contributions).
But for City of Commerce Mayor Tina Baca Del Rio and Councilman Robert Fierro, their stand against the proposed power plant has bought them a recall election that is on the Commerce Ballot in November.

Huizar jumped on the bandwagon AFTER THE FACT. When he was told how many news cameras and media were covering the story way back when then he decided to be involved. It was Father Moretta who started this and Huizar simply shows up to get his photo op like his corrupt buddy Antonio. Sad reality with as much as the Latino politicans can do for their own community they do nothing but exploit them.

I concur...Huizar is a media opportunist. Where was he on this before the media wanted to cover it.

Sorry, but what elected official is NOT a media opportunist?

The difference in Huizar's case it that when he took over as CM in CD-14, he happened upon a copy of "How To Maximize Your Photo Opps for Fun and Profit" that his predecessor, Mayor Tony, left in the desk, and he's never been the same since.
In CD-14

Wonder what Huizar thoughts were on this??
* Tom Calderon, a consultant with the Calderon Group. Last year, Calderon was identified by The Times as one of three former elected officials who were lobbying politicians to support the city of Vernon's plan to build a new power plant on Boyle Avenue. (Wonder if Robert Urteaga tagged along with Calderon?).
Reached by The Times on Friday, Calderon was asked if he is still working on the power plant project, which has drawn protests from residents of Boyle Heights, a neighborhood once represented by Villaraigosa. "I really don't respond to press calls, thanks," Calderon said, shortly before he hung up.
.......and that answer should educate all about the current "State of Affairs" on the "third floor".
Calderon was a host of an Villar fundraiser.......

someone should look into how much money calderon has given weezy and if weezy has used calderon for any consultant job.

Give Huizar some credit on this. He has been involved in fighting the power plant for quite some time now and was instrumental in sponsoring a City Council motion along these lines. Unfortunately, he is but one of the few prominent Latino officials (especialy former officials....) who has not gone to the $$$$other side on this.

Ok now the facts and not the BS Huizar staffers are posting. Lots of people at Father John's Resurrection were pissed because Huizar was nowhere when they were meeting and strategizing. They let it be known to everyone in the community. After the media got interested Huizar came running. I don't want to criticize if its not warranted however, what has Huizar done in CD14? No one is mentioning the backstabbing Hector Elizade from Congresswoman Roybal Alard Office has done. He's not working for city of Vernon and betrayed the community pretending to be on their side going to meetings and faking it. Out of nowhere come to find out he's getting paid a pretty penny for PR to push Vernon Power plant.

Antonio has a press conference saying he would like to see "middle income" (illegals) along the border of the Metro gold Line on the Eastside. WHAT!!!!!*()*&%^$%$((&^%^
Antonio keeps calling them middle income or affordable housing but we're not stupid it really means HOUSING FOR ILLEGALS. WHO IN THE HELL DECIDED THIS? AND WHERE IS WEEZY ON THIS.

Mayor Tina Del Rio said:
According to an AQMD Study this project would kill between 3 and 11 people every year it operates and it is projected to operate 40-50 years. The bottom line is this plant does not belong in our communities.
It is important that elected leaders, environmental groups and the public join together and continue the fight to defeat this project. Thanks for bringing attention to this issue.
