A Night of Champions - Kudos to Sergio Mora of East L.A.
Last night was a culmination of pugilism--of that I'm sure. You had UFC 85 with Matt Hughes in his next-to-last match, news that the Pretty Boy has retired and won't be fighting the Golden Boy in the fall, Kelly Pavlik taking care of business on HBO, and the Contender's Sergio Mora winning his title shot against Vernon Forrest. And for you observers of the other sweet science, politics, it escaped no one's notice that a certain political prizefighter also called an end to her championship bout (albeit to the same song that Wladimir Klitschko enters the ring with: Tina Turner's "Simply the Best").
So congrats to all and especially our local guy, Sergio Mora, who grew up in a single-parent home in East L.A. and acheived his dream last night: the WBC Super Welterweight Championship of the world.

This is definitely a moment I've dreamed about my entire career. I have aspired to be a world champion.

Speaking of messed up faces, what is up with Villaraigosa's RIGHT EYEBROW?
He was on KABC's Newsmakers this morning and half of his right eyebrow was missing!
Also, Villaretardo's didn't have his open-mouthed grin today. He looked downright somber.
Maybe he bet too much on a job with Billary, and that BILL RICHARDSON is going to be the top Latino at the convention!
With no gig in the Obama or McCain White House, and his mayoral gig all but gone, the first weekend of realityville is sinking in for the guy who put us a half-billion dollars in the hole, this year alone
Eric Garcetti is looking like a much better option, since he is prone to being Latino from time to time.
Garcetti even speaks better Spanish that Villaretardo.
