Mayor Sam on the 101

Greetings as I am San Jose bound.

Normally when I head this way and I hit Buellton at meal time I stop at the original Pea Soup Andersons.

But this time I decided to try something different and stopped at Tonos Mexican Restaurant.

I should have stuck to the pea soup.

Here on the Central Coast, a significant agricultural region, illegal immigration is a major issue of concern. On one extreme Minute men activists want police to arrest illegal aliens (I guess no Special Order 40 here). On another extreme pro-illegal advocates want amnesty. In the middle are growers who say they do not hire illegals but also say there is a severe shortage of labor. If the land can't be farmed, they'll be forced to develop it for housing and California will become a net importer of produce.

What say you?

The farmers can lobby for guest workers like we had in the old days, except we can ensure better oversight now so they won't be exploited. How our crops used to be picked, from lettuce and oranges in the west to tobacco in the northeast (Cubans brought in seasonally) to cotton in the south...

No need for all their kids and anchor babies, which means each worker adds up to a family of 6-12 plus inlaws, and they draw way, way more in benefits than they put in.

It's time to END the subsidizing of a few farmers and garment businesses who want illegals, by the rest of us who have no schools, hospitals, a bankrupt welfare and social service system, and the smog and congestion from half our population being illegal (and mostly driving around without licenses, insurance OR the smog checks to get proper registration).

My dad and his six brothers used to get farmed out to their padrino to help pick produce in Central Cal, as El Padrino only had daughters and no sons to help with the picking. They picked everything from grapes to oranges. He's got great stories from those days.

(By the way, Happy 70th Birthday Valley Dad!)

7:17 ...Pea Soup Anderson's is da bombay.

Mayor Sam, what the hell were you thinking? Tonos Mexican Restaurant? WTF?

xoxo
ps. godspeed mayor sam, have a safe trip!

Put an ad in the paper for farm workers and see who replies. In the fields, it isn't like the illegals are taking jobs from anyone else. Someone has to do that backbreaking work.

Thousand of young American boys and girls worked over the summer to make enough money to save for high school, the university, etc.,
to become Doctors, Lawyers, Architects, etc.

Some Americans will choose to work to pick cotton, fruit and other garden products ust to make enough to keep themselves alive. You do not have to be an illegal to be expoited.

Even the illegal aliens don't want to work the fields. I see illegal aliens working as painters, dry-wallers, and etc on construction sites, why would anybody want to pick lettuce when he can find a better job.

There are millions of illegal aliens in the country already we don't need more, the farmers have to pay a better wage and people will work the jobs. The farmers have to compete with everybody else in the new global economy.

Labor shortage is bull-shit, even Microsoft says there are not enough software enginners, but what Microsoft really wants is cheap labor.

When we have 0-1% unemployment then I will believe that shit, how many poor American kids in L.A. are asking for jobs in Los Angeles.

Even the Mayor says we need more jobs to keep people out of gangs, but at the same time VillaPendejo wants more illegal aliens.

Mayor VillaPendejo, if ICE deports illegal aliens in work-place raids, this will be more job for some poor U.S. born guy from the ghetto. How fucking hard is it to understand this simple concept, we need more jobs in L.A. just like all the gang experts say.

I say we quit talking about illegal immigrants. It is too boring.

Dumb move on passing Andersen's. They have great food.

I agree with the person who says the farmers need to advertise. I agree. Put ads in the paper and see who shows up to get work. It won't just be illegal immigrants. Unless you're not paying what you should. Then that's a different story and that would be the fault of the farmers. But I've never seen a Help Wanted ad for fruit or vegetable picking.

I'm sick of all the people screaming about the illegals. It's even worse when you call them aliens. When you talk, I secretly hope 100 more jump the border because I detest your hatred.

I would prefer that before you even attempt to repeat gossip and rumor and old wives tales, you actually look up what money that illegal immigrants have access to. Much, much, much less than you all believe.

Legalizing the illegals will only make the problem worse. How about we encourage the people of Mexico and Central America do something about their economies and then we happily import their produce?

Farmers, like any employers, will look for the cheapest labor they can to keep overhead down and try for a better profit. Immigrants, migrants and illegal aliens will work for cheap because it beats where they came from.

In the farmers example, the social cost is not something they have to bear directly, so it impacts little on their business. It impacts on the rest of society however. The wages have become depressed in construction trades because of illegal alien availability for jobs, bumping out others.

There are no summer jobs for high school or college kids anymore because an employer can get unskilled labor to work for all 12 months of the year instead of just the summer for the same rate of pay. The living wage problems increase because these jobs aren't the kind that you are supposed to expect for a career.

All around, the influx of illegal aliens leaves them to be preyed upon by employers as a cheap labor source, and they in turn often have families with a usage of services that outweighs what ever amount their work contributes.

Add to this the pattern of sending money back to the family in their country that doesn't get spent in the U.S. (and often, untaxed). The workers who do this have to live at a poverty level that they tolerate, but it's bringing down a lot for others- neighborhoods deteriorating by overcrowding.

Just a lot of negatives to come out of what initially looked good- cheap labor to cover lots of low-level jobs.

Personal values have changed. Kids don't even know how to cut grass anymore, as they have been shown that it is a job for the brown gardeners. These are subtle expectations that reach out to other types of jobs, too.

If illegals were legalized, do you think they would then settle for the wages they get now? They would be empowered by that, and people move out of the fieldwork as they find other work, which legalization will open up. They will also be a political force to be addressed.

All around its still more complicated, but I think it's fundamentally unfair to "jump the line" and to get ahead of others that follow the law. Even more irritating it having an “undocumented individual” demand "legalization" be done as an entitlement rather than a privilege.

Add to the picture the idea that the U.S. is not the country of allegiance for many illegal aliens, as is the case usually with persons who legally immigrate here, so do we want that?

The only ones who are getting the big benefit in the short run are the big business that exploit the cheap labor source, something the administration is trying to perpetuate in allowing borders to remain unsecured against continued influx of people.

Maybe development should happen for some farmers since there seems no controlled development considered for the State. It's already that way for L.A. and the Titanic is about to roll over with the overload politicians have allowed.

Being against illegal immigration (as opposed to "immigration") is not a racist thing- although many racists are against it, too- it is just a matter of trying halt the slow destruction already happening.

Even the illegals are sick of the illegals. Less than 8,500 showed up yesterday.

Too much ham in the pea soup for me.

I'll have a peanut and jelly sandwich.

Am I the only one shocked and the low turnout for yesterday's march? More cops then people and shocking Fabian and Cedillo both were speaking to the crowd in English. Does anyone know the real reason why Antonio didn't go out to speak? Could it be he's running for Mayor again and didn't want to piss off the legal residents who vote?

Did 'ya notice the hundreds of red flags with Che's image on them??? There was a paltry turnout, but it was more Marxist oriented. More Mexican flags and fewer American flags...but it was the red, Communist Che flag that blew my mind!

These images could cost Villar the election if some enterprising reporter puts a montage together! It could undo Hillary (and Barak) and, I suppose McNasty) and maybe we could cancel the election.

Karl Marx would be proud of EVERYONE!

9:23 a.m.: Sure, the Communist Party was one of the big organizers of the event: even Ch. 7 on Wed. night, covering the tamale/ice cream social fundraiser for firefighters at McArthur Park, interviewed the head of the "Workers Social Party" saying it was really a lead-up to May Day to demand the end of ICE "interfering" in the city. That's the "new" name for the Communist Party, and May 1st was known in Russia as the Communist Worker's Holiday. (Guy had a pockmarked face and tone that would scare me in a dark alley.)

None of the pussy press picked up or featured the Che flags or this Marxist slant, and predominance of Mexican and Salvadoran flags. The fewer people there were more openly Marxist/ hostile and MeCHa -- disgusting to see Bratton there, pretending it was a nice, average fundraiser. The people other than those who went there for that, were in fact anti-cop and U. S. laws.

11:47: You're right, that there's NO benefit to having illegals in our society at all, not even the bogus one that they give us more affordable household help. Maids on the westside are MORE demanding than any college girl I've hired for childcare, e.g., they usually demand a CAR and help paying for it, or they'll suddenly be "unable" to show up at a crucial time. Some do take the bus, if you're in a very accessible area, but then they demand to raid your frig and you've got to hide things like expensive smoked salmon and meats or it disappears "home" to their families, they're sticklers on even an extra 15 mins. overtime, and even though they want cash, they're all demaging at least $10.00/hr., which comes to more like $13.oo or more if they were having to pay taxes.

Above all, they know how to sue and network among the other maids on the street to get dirt on you -- about all they do when they do "childcare." IF they're illegal or you're not sure if they are, that's actually something THEY know how to hold over YOUR head: they'll go go a lawyer who'll claim YOU are abusing them, if they don't get anything they want.

THAT's the open message they're getting from their "leaders," from the Mayor and Moron Reyes to Gil Cedillo, who spoke at their rally yesterday like a rabble-rouser against the government, NOT a rep for the government. They DEMAND ICE leave all illegals alone, and only go after those employers who aren't giving them everything they want.

Reyes today at Council took up some 20 mins. or MORE to play up the evils of ICE actually having the nerve to go after illegals in L. A., made them sound like Gestapo. As part of weasly Huizar's Cinco de Mayo presentation. (He said El Grito is the real Independence Celebration, but that didn't stop him from taking up tons of time for this one, too.) I WISH THE FRENCH HAD WON INSTEAD OF THE MEXICAN PEASANTS KILLING POOR EMPEROR MAXIMILIANO OF AUSTRIA, which this day "celebrates." Wish we'd been stuck with a French-Austrian country to the south instead of these ignorant, demanding peasants, who hate "anglos" but just want what we've got NOW. Boycott Cinco de Mayo -- WAVE THE FRENCH AND AUSTRIAN FLAGS. In your mind...

Considering that raising children is one of the hardest and most important jobs in the world, any parent who leaves their babies with strangers that they've hired off the streets deserve what they get. The only way you can afford to have children and work is if you have a parent or other family member who lives with you and can do it. Or you damn sure better make enough money to hire someone from a legitimate agency who has pre-screened and pre-checked their employees.

I have no respect for the mother who has children, then passes off her motherly duties to a strange college kid, illegal immigrant, babysitter ad in the paper or a daycare.

If childcare workers are getting $10/hour, that mother must be making excellent money to pay a babysitter $400/week because if she is making $500/week and paying her babysitter $400, she is ignoring her child for $100 a week.

That is either a sick reflection of our values and it's no wonder there are so many stupid people out there or it's pure selfishness on behalf of the mother who chooses to work instead of raising the child she chose to have.

That subject enrages me.
