BREAKING P.C. ALERT: Rush Limbaugh calls Mayor Villaraigosa a "SHOESHINE BOY"
The Office of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is expected to release a statement regarding the comments of Conservative Commentator Rush Limbaugh that included calling the Mayor a "SHOESHINE BOY". (Update at noon, no comment will be forthcoming from the Mayor's Office, see below for possible reason.)Yesterday on his show, Limbaugh was regaling the listeners with the story of his New York dinner encounter with the former President Bill Clinton and the role of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in distracting Limbaugh while Clinton makes a "play" for Limbaugh's Dinner Date.
Limbaugh describes his meeting of Mayor Villaraigosa and his mistaking the mayor for either a Secret Service Agent or flippantly, a "SHOESHINE BOY".
This "SHOESHINE BOY" comment is causing some to cry "R-A-C-I-S-M" including the Mayor?

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has decided discretion is the better part of valor.Or, you don't get into a shouting match with the man who owns the microphone.Rather than respond to the slight by radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, the mayor is letting pass a slur being seized on in the blogosphere.Limbaugh, on his radio show, was talking about a recent time when he met with former President Clinton and Villaraigosa:"I shook [Clinton's] hand, he left, comes back [with] the mayor of Los Angeles," Limbaugh said. "I thought it was a Secret Service agent, maybe a shoeshine guy. Turns out he gives me his card, I said, 'Oh, my gosh, it's the mayor of Los Angeles.'"Villaraigosa aides said the mayor had heard the story several months ago and didn't believe it merited a response. "He's been called worst than that," one aide said.

Alex Nogales, president of the National Hispanic Media Coalition, says this:
"What can I tell you?
It's the same kind of nasty, bigoted, racist type of comment that has become so prevalent in today's society, as practiced by Lou Dobbs, as practiced by [Sean] Hannity, [Bill] O'Reilly, [Michael] Savage -- all these guys who are appealing to a particular bigoted audience, and fanning the fires of bigotry and racism by doing these kinds of things without real concern about the consequences of their words. And the consequences are that these kinds of comments have helped in raising the rate of crimes against Latinos 35 percent in last three years." (He attributes that figure to the FBI.) "These guys have no civility in their makeup, no compassion, and very little intelligence when it comes to opening their mouths."

The Mayor and Councilmember expressed their deep love for Broadway and their connection to the street as a child. Huizar recalled watching Bruce Lee films, while Villaraigosa hearkened back to shining shoes outside Broadway department stores.

Back in the days when I was in grad school and Letterman had just made the excitement-generating move to CBS, the CBS affiliate in Ba-ton Rouge refused to replace Limbaugh's syndicated show with Letterman. In a major college town. Can you believe it?

Good for Rush and I'm A lATINO who totally agrees as does thousands in this city who are tired of the Chclo Mayor. Everyone just drive around downtown LA and MacArthur Park and you would think you were in Tijuana. No one cares about the trash and blight the illegals have caused. So good for Rush, Bill, Sean, John & Ken and the rest for putting it out there what a mess our city is in thanks to the 1st Latino Mayor in the history of this city who has destroyed our class and made LA a laughing stock to these type of guys.

The mayor actually just takes a "shine" to anything in a skirt. That's probably where Rush got confused.
And doesn't that make perfect sense anyway -- Clinton and Antonio out cruising for chicks together. Do you suppose they take turns being each other's wing men, or did our esteemed mayor just feel sorry for Bill this time because the ex-pres still has an old "ball and chain" cutting in to his action (while Antonio's free as a bird, now).
Who cares what a drug addict says? I'm no fan of Villaraigosa, but Limbaugh is a moron with legions of moron listeners.
Rush has major power where's he at. So does the rest of them. I find it odd for the first time Antonio and his idiot pr guy Matt Szabo don't want to comment.

No one is giving Rush crap for calling Tony Villar a secret service agent.
What Rush meant was that the guy could have been a secret service guy (one extreme) or a shoeshine boy (other extreme) as far as he knew. He had no idea that he was the Mayor of LA.
Which really means that Rush hadn't done his homework.
Same can be said for the voters in 2005, some bloggers here included.

BUT there's a gangbanger caught red-handed with private info on the two cops, Moreno and Garcia, the day he got out of jail, fed to him by Internal Services in cahoots with the gangbangers working with Hahn's pets. The other shoe will fall -- Moreno and Garcia are waiting to see what will happen with THEIR careers first.

Real shame is there is NO ONE in charge of Economic Development other than Sisson, who works too much for Bernie and the Budget Committee to actually advise them, or have any authority. There's been a lack of leadership for decades, a raudderless ship headed for the iceberg.
Actually, Zine said in City Council that giving the union those raises was a bad idea. He said it would come back to haunt LA, and it has.

The comment made by Rush did not even weigh merit or involve any measure of quality (like "He is a real lousy shoeshine boy" or "he'd do a better job as shoe shine boy than what he's doing as mayor.") The encounter illustrates Rush did not even KNOW who this guy was. So relax. At least he included "Secret Service Agent" in the range of possibilities.
And it isn't so bad that A.V. actually shined shoes in his youth since that was a pretty reliable way to get cash for young kids when downtown was pretty nice place and not the disaster it became.
Now I'd be insulted if I were him if Rush said "I thought the guy was one of his fellow adulterers," then I'd say it's not very nice. True, but not very nice.

Yeah, yeah -- we'll hear this until the next mayor is elected. Everything "good" that happens now is BECAUSE Antonio is mayor and everything "bad" happening now is because HAHN used to be mayor (of course that means Tony can't or won't "fix" it -- like he said he could, but I digress).
How about investing a couple pennies in some intellectual honest, Tony spinners, geez.
Tony V. has been mayor for 3 full years now, and was on city council for two years before. He can't keep harkening back to the last guy and saying "he left me a mess" when it's been YOUR house nearly as long as it was his.
How about you own up to your own shortcomings (pardon the pun).
How about you beef up the reserves when things ARE better (like when the the RE boom is going full bore).
Because any first year economics student knows more than Tony's advisors seem to . . . IT DOESN'T LAST.
