BREAKING P.C. ALERT: Rush Limbaugh calls Mayor Villaraigosa a "SHOESHINE BOY"

The Office of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is expected to release a statement regarding the comments of Conservative Commentator Rush Limbaugh that included calling the Mayor a "SHOESHINE BOY". (Update at noon, no comment will be forthcoming from the Mayor's Office, see below for possible reason.)

Yesterday on his show, Limbaugh was regaling the listeners with the story of his New York dinner encounter with the former President Bill Clinton and the role of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in distracting Limbaugh while Clinton makes a "play" for Limbaugh's Dinner Date.

Limbaugh describes his meeting of Mayor Villaraigosa and his mistaking the mayor for either a Secret Service Agent or flippantly, a "SHOESHINE BOY".

This "SHOESHINE BOY" comment is causing some to cry "R-A-C-I-S-M" including the Mayor?

From Rick Orlov,

Posted by Rick Orlov at 12:17 PM Los Angeles
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has decided discretion is the better part of valor.Or, you don't get into a shouting match with the man who owns the microphone.Rather than respond to the slight by radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, the mayor is letting pass a slur being seized on in the blogosphere.Limbaugh, on his radio show, was talking about a recent time when he met with former President Clinton and Villaraigosa:"I shook [Clinton's] hand, he left, comes back [with] the mayor of Los Angeles," Limbaugh said. "I thought it was a Secret Service agent, maybe a shoeshine guy. Turns out he gives me his card, I said, 'Oh, my gosh, it's the mayor of Los Angeles.'"Villaraigosa aides said the mayor had heard the story several months ago and didn't believe it merited a response. "He's been called worst than that," one aide said.

Updated statement:

Alex Nogales, president of the National Hispanic Media Coalition, says this:

"What can I tell you?

It's the same kind of nasty, bigoted, racist type of comment that has become so prevalent in today's society, as practiced by Lou Dobbs, as practiced by [Sean] Hannity, [Bill] O'Reilly, [Michael] Savage -- all these guys who are appealing to a particular bigoted audience, and fanning the fires of bigotry and racism by doing these kinds of things without real concern about the consequences of their words. And the consequences are that these kinds of comments have helped in raising the rate of crimes against Latinos 35 percent in last three years." (He attributes that figure to the FBI.) "These guys have no civility in their makeup, no compassion, and very little intelligence when it comes to opening their mouths."

****Rush was right, at least about the "POLITICO FORMERLY KNOWN AS MAYOR ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA, tony villar.

From "BlogDowntown"
On stage with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Councilman Jose Huizar were the Bringing Back Broadway Trustees, a group of roughly two dozen local stakeholders assembled to guide the new organization. The Mayor and Councilmember expressed their deep love for Broadway and their connection to the street as a child. Huizar recalled watching Bruce Lee films, while Villaraigosa hearkened back to shining shoes outside Broadway department stores.

Classic!!

God, Limbaugh is a complete idiot.

Back in the days when I was in grad school and Letterman had just made the excitement-generating move to CBS, the CBS affiliate in Ba-ton Rouge refused to replace Limbaugh's syndicated show with Letterman. In a major college town. Can you believe it?

(YES).

Good for Rush and I'm A lATINO who totally agrees as does thousands in this city who are tired of the Chclo Mayor. Everyone just drive around downtown LA and MacArthur Park and you would think you were in Tijuana. No one cares about the trash and blight the illegals have caused. So good for Rush, Bill, Sean, John & Ken and the rest for putting it out there what a mess our city is in thanks to the 1st Latino Mayor in the history of this city who has destroyed our class and made LA a laughing stock to these type of guys.

"I want to see myself in those patent leathers when you're done, Tonito!"

(But here's the funny part -- critics ACTUALLY think they're going to maginalize Limbaugh with his supporters by calling him a "racist").

Now THAT's funny, I don't care who you are.

That's actually a merit badge in radical right wing Boy Scout troops, isn't it? You can get your Racism badge faster if you earn your Gay-Bashing badge first (involves rubbing to homosexuals together to start a fire - or something like that).

The mayor actually just takes a "shine" to anything in a skirt. That's probably where Rush got confused.

And doesn't that make perfect sense anyway -- Clinton and Antonio out cruising for chicks together. Do you suppose they take turns being each other's wing men, or did our esteemed mayor just feel sorry for Bill this time because the ex-pres still has an old "ball and chain" cutting in to his action (while Antonio's free as a bird, now).

No one is giving Rush crap for calling Tony Villar a secret service agent.

What Rush meant was that the guy could have been a secret service guy (one extreme) or a shoeshine boy (other extreme) as far as he knew. He had no idea that he was the Mayor of LA.

Which really means that Rush hadn't done his homework.

See, there you go misquoting (and misspelling) me again.

What I actually said was two completely separate thoughts:

"He'll pick up his new BROAD on the WAY to the SHOW" (and)

"BOY, we really TAUGHT this city a lesson with that 'elect the guy with the 1.7 GPA' SCHEME!"

(This is how vicious rumors get started -- please be more careful).

The alternative in 2005 was a lot "scarier" because, why??

Because you BELIEVED liars like Parke Skelton -- that Hahn was some devious crook with one foot in jail, and Villar would the agent of CHANGE (just like Obama, right?)

Well, now you have exactly what you asked for -- because some spare CHANGE is all that's left in the city coffers to run essential services, now that we're though being SCARED of the big bad incumbent mayor in 2005.

(Who, by the way slept through the theft by Fleishman-Hillard of about 1/2 of 1 percent of what next year's budget SHORTFALL will be under Tony V.)

Welcome to CHANGE! (Now hand the rest of yours over).

The moron who likens Boy Scouts to racists is sick. Gee, wouldn't that be so horrible if gangbanger prevention programs were like the Scouts. Dimwit.

No one ever excluded gays from joining just the right of parents not to have CERTAIN open gays around their boys. All parents "feel" when someone's wrong around their kids at Little League OR the Scouts etc. IF parents weren't so PC maybe there would be fewer pervs as repeat offenders in uor schools.

Oh, wait -- that's the teachers union themselves and LAUSD looking out for our kids.

Whatever is wrong with the Mayor, and his pandering to the illegals is the worst of it, Hahn was frankly worse. Hahn pandered MORE to blacks and Hispanics, like his sister Janice -- look at her getting rid of two good HISpanic cops to protect some black hood because she'd stuck her nose into gangbanger affairs she couldn't understand or control, so she was left with DAMAGE CONTROL.

BUT there's a gangbanger caught red-handed with private info on the two cops, Moreno and Garcia, the day he got out of jail, fed to him by Internal Services in cahoots with the gangbangers working with Hahn's pets. The other shoe will fall -- Moreno and Garcia are waiting to see what will happen with THEIR careers first.

Rosendahl and Hahn behind the living wage for LAX-area hotels, which employ almost all illegals: horrible for business, L A's image AND have cost us expensive lawsuits with no end in sight.

this financial disaster has been brewing for over a decade, as Karen Sisson clearly stated in budget committee more than once, but was covered up by the real estate boom.

The overpaid, overpensioned unions were fostered by Hahn and Bradley, and by many councilmembers.

Real shame is there is NO ONE in charge of Economic Development other than Sisson, who works too much for Bernie and the Budget Committee to actually advise them, or have any authority. There's been a lack of leadership for decades, a raudderless ship headed for the iceberg.

boycott rush limbaugh. his comments reflect poorly on shoe shine boys. how dare you compare us to your mayor. we are not corrupt gang members. just shoe shine boys.

The comment made by Rush did not even weigh merit or involve any measure of quality (like "He is a real lousy shoeshine boy" or "he'd do a better job as shoe shine boy than what he's doing as mayor.") The encounter illustrates Rush did not even KNOW who this guy was. So relax. At least he included "Secret Service Agent" in the range of possibilities.

And it isn't so bad that A.V. actually shined shoes in his youth since that was a pretty reliable way to get cash for young kids when downtown was pretty nice place and not the disaster it became.

Now I'd be insulted if I were him if Rush said "I thought the guy was one of his fellow adulterers," then I'd say it's not very nice. True, but not very nice.

Yeah, yeah -- we'll hear this until the next mayor is elected. Everything "good" that happens now is BECAUSE Antonio is mayor and everything "bad" happening now is because HAHN used to be mayor (of course that means Tony can't or won't "fix" it -- like he said he could, but I digress).

How about investing a couple pennies in some intellectual honest, Tony spinners, geez.

Tony V. has been mayor for 3 full years now, and was on city council for two years before. He can't keep harkening back to the last guy and saying "he left me a mess" when it's been YOUR house nearly as long as it was his.

How about you own up to your own shortcomings (pardon the pun).

How about you beef up the reserves when things ARE better (like when the the RE boom is going full bore).

Because any first year economics student knows more than Tony's advisors seem to . . . IT DOESN'T LAST.

THINK AHEAD.

SAVE FOR A DAMN RAINY DAY, and stop bitching and moaning that the guy who was lame-ducked by you 35-40 MONTHS ago (three full fiscal yeasr) didn't leave you an umbrella.
