Garcia to Helm Daily News?

Reporter G is speculating that Carolina Garcia, executive editor of the Monterey County Herald, may be the next editor of the Daily News. Garcia's appointment if it comes would replace the long time reign of Ron Kaye as the head of the former MOLDY GREEN SHEET, who resigned last week.

Once again Mayor Sam is wrong. Garcia is not being considered.

Because Mayor Sam and his blog is usually wrong and full of shit. There are no other reports of this. Not in the Daily News or LA Observed.

I checked LA Observed. There is a new story about the LA Daily News. This is not mentioned. Mayor Sam was wrong.

Okay, so you don't have inside scoop. You're just saying that it's not on another blog or reported in the newspapers yet so you don't believe it.

I guess it's a wait and see thing. Maybe someone told MS and asked him not to tell his source. It happens all the time, you know.

He probably didn't make up the name. A female minority doesn't sound too far out of the realm of possibility in the valley since there she wouldn't be a minority I don't think. So it is the year of the woman.

I'm not discounting the story yet. If he's wrong then he's wrong and you can say neener, neener tomorrow if you want to.

12:56: It's also illogical to want to move these illegal criminals out of our state, while calling those who don't want them, and the culture that breeds and supports them, in their neighborhoods "extremist."

I guess it's better to move them to another state than deal with the issue, but the local Hispanic councilmembers who want to use their "legislative authority" to just move their problems into "nice areas," don't have the authority to move the problem out of state -- only into the explicitly targeted westside and hillside communities.

Ironically, too many of these people have been fighting a couple of traditional developments, which attract a wealthier element and arguably improve property values, to be awake to the real threat aimed at them like a missile from across town. (The very IDEA of what Reyes and his supporters, Huizar and Alarcon with the naive support of silly Mike Woo, propose is so unimaginable, that even when they hear mention of it in the papers or blogs, they can't believe it's really what Reyes means. He most assuredly does.)

This is a very different issue from figuring out how to deport ALL illegals or AB1818 to build housing in accord with an existing community, only on main boulevards and near mass transit areas that can handle the traffic. And where only a small percentage of units would be for subsidized occupants. Reyes' "vision" is nothing less than allout, intentional destruction of neighborhoods and livelihoods of residents.

Vrey sad but on Daily News blog many people ar sorry to see Ron Kaye go. He was one of the few who really allowed his reporters to print the facts about city hall. He had the guts to file public records document and get all the DWP salaries. Thank you Ron.

I live on the Westside (in the hills)...can you PLEASE tell me what Reyes and his amigos have planned for our community?

You really have be worried! I hope it's not something as catastrophic as 'affordable housing' for illegals!

Waiting for your reply...thanks.

Garcia some are saying is one of those Mecha, chola chicana activist. OH NOOOOO> Another lame idiot that will spin the Daily News into the ground because of her personal bullcrap of Latinos. Why couldn't they find an educated, well rounded, smart, English speaking, Latino/Latina instead of another Mexican that gives us all a bad name.

7:43: What Reyes has planned, see the posts under Red Spot's column below -- go to the Council Meeting transcripts for 3/18, the discussion parks (where Reyes attacks Zev Y, all HOA's but singles out the people of CDs5 and 11 -- announces "since the city doesn't build parks whre the people are -- he means his crowded slums, Huizar's and South L A -- he intends "to move the people to where the parks are," in these districts.

The ONLY parks in these districts are HOlmby, WEstwood, Rustic Canyon -- we don't have a lot. (Unless you look at STATE parks which the idiot probably includes, like Will Rogers and Topanga -- scheduled to be cut back or closed by Arnold anyway.) He goes on at length about putting his high-density, low-income projects in these areas.

On April 1st -- what you'd think is an April Fools joke, it's so crazy and radical -- he comes at the westside AGAIN. Uses his whole time talking re: MLK and "social justice" to attack "the hillside federattions" and those who won't let him put him projects (Tijuana, lock stock and barrel) into their neighborboods, as those who "put property values ahead of social values," who "won't let our kids live where they should" -- in other words, in areas their illegal and other immigrant parents and those from Watts, can't afford and don't belong in.

Reyes adds, "if they won't agree to do what they should, as legislators we have the ability to require them to do so."

See also David Zahniser's articles of 4/2 re: the Council on MLK, where he mentions Reyes' comments; AND his blog ref. on billboards, where he points out that Reyes attacks the westside/Weiss for not letting Clear Channel put up its billboards all over the westside.
(See also: CityWatch/Dennis Hathaway's article on billboards, explaining the weird connection and how it's Rocky/ClearChannel/CBS to blame: "Jan Perry Plays the Divide and Conquor Card.)

IF YOU CAN POST CLIPS OF REYES' RANTS DURING THE 3/18 and 4/1 MEETINGS SPOUTING THE ABOVE, ON YOUTUBE, IT WILL BE NATIONAL NEWS.

I'd do it but I'm not as skilled and I work for the city so I'd get into trouble.

LOU DOBBS, O'RELLY, EVEN KATIE COURIC is doing a series this week on the costs of illegal immigration in America -- starting with Mexicans who cross illegally just to drop anchor babies, leaving us with the costs. NOt only of the babies, but using them to bring the whole "family" here and rely on the wacko Bleeding Heart Libs to fight for their "rights" to continue to stay in this country, all of them.

Then of course, when they outgrow their barrios with all those kids they can't afford, having trashed their environment and streets, they have Reyes/Huizar/Alarcon demanding they trash the hillsides and westside in the interests of "social justice."

For the record -- I'm not sure it's fair to lump Villar in with Reyes on this, since Villar takes his marching orders from the Big Guys like Riordan and Broad, who live in Brentwood and don't want TJ slum projects as their neighbors either. They don't want their prop values to plummet any more than the rest of us.

The emasculation of the major L.A. papers have been accomplished. The purchase of the L.A. Times, by Sam Zell, portends an agenda of developer and smart growth disinformation. The demise of the L.A. Daily News will be overseen by the new editor, Carolina Garcia, as it morphs into a latino propaganda rag.

The hope of the free world is held by blogs and by any non-profit community paper that a brave soul citizen births.

The DN bio of her claims that she was ok balancing the views of the wealthy of Pebble Beach (think rich, eco- friendly libs like Clint Eastwood) and the "migrant workers of Salinas." (Haven't heard that term in ages: migrant means moving around, so where do they go when crops aren't in season? To L A? Or "home" to Mexico?) Hope that's the case -- but I already get a sense from articles, that it's more "we're all one city, one people," discouraging the sense that it's a place for legal residents who value the law, vs. the illegals/ crime.
(The "pro- criminal illegal alien lobby," as Sam/ Higby calls them, are already celebrating. BUT wait, one person can't change the readers it's the readers who make a paper.)

The positive is the valley people are very vocal and won't put up with her illegal, latino bull crap. Once the paper starts down that road you better believe a huge BOYCOTT will start and it will further lose subscriptions. You can bet our gang banger cholo Mecha Mayor has already called her to set up a meeting.

Time will tell but if this Mecha Chicana idiot ruins that paper she will hear about it and they better dump her sorry ass.

Garcia is a well-educated, extremely intelligent journalist with a stellar work history - awards and all. I worked with her a long time ago at the Milwaukee Journal (one of the top 10 dailies in the country) and she worked harder than anyone and distinguished herself quickly in the newsroon. Because her name is Garcia you gotta hate? You're pathetic.

You know nothing of Garcia but you have already pegged her a pro-illegal Mexican propagandist? You people are pathetic. I worked with Garcia a long time ago at the Milwaukee Journal and she is a well-educated, intelligent, articulate, hard-working journalist with a stellar work history - awards included.

That's most likely why the DN hired her.

What the hell? Valley people won't put up with her illegal, latino bullcrap? Nice way to slam the brown girl whom you've never even met but decide she's ripe for the slamming because a) she's brown (gasp!) and b)she's a girl?

Which is more offensive to you a) or b) or c)-- you're just too much of a meathead to figure it out?

I guess I shouldn't be, but I am really stunned by the level of racism -- and sexism -- around here.

Have we really come to the point of "Spin wins - don't bother me with facts"?

I for one am sorry Kaye left. I'd actually like to know the real reasons for the change, that would be enlightening. But it happened -- and we'll see how Ms. Garcia does the job. Neither her ethnic heritage or gender means anything by and unto themselves beyond fulfilling two Affirmative Action goals with one hire. (Shades of Condie Rice...)

It's the "mothers milk" of this blog.
