Raging Ferraro

Geraldine Ferraro isn't giving in and is holding fast to her racist comments about Barack Obama and so far the Clintons aren't condemning her. Originally, I suspected at some point that Mrs. Clinton would have to denounce Ferraro in much the same way Democrats in 1984 had to distance themselves from Jesse Jackson's "hymie-town" remarks.

Andrew Sullivan however sees it as a larger Bill Clinton calculated political strategy that's all about the Pennsylvania primary. Sullivan says "As a white male Bill realized he couldn't push Obama into the ghetto box, but what a brilliant strategy! - let's have another "disadvantaged group" lambaste Obama through an elderly white female surrogate," he continues that the Clintons are aiming to portray "Obama as a beneficiary of affirmative action and Clinton a victimized white woman in order to racially polarize a primary where Clinton needs white ethnic votes." Clearly a gamble on the Clintons' part; they can attempt to at least damage Obama going into the convention; however the downside of that is to further fire up the wrath of African Americans and other Obama supporters who feel Barack has not been treated fairly.

And now ladies and gentleman with a song in honor of Geraldine Ferraro, the Starlight Lounge at Mayor Sam's Sister City is proud to present Sir Elton John and Ms. Tina Turner...

Geraldine Ferraro comment's are very tame compared to Don Quixote's vile, xenophobic and vitriolistic comments about blacks.

Don Quixote,
We are still waiting to here your infamous rants about blacks being changos, mayates, lazy, and etc.

Ferraro is absolutely right. Hillary should announce that she is selecting Al Sharpton as her running mate and everyone should put their race cards in their pockets

From the "politico"

Ferraro steps down

After defending herself in a day-long media tour, Geraldine Ferraro has stepped down from her (ceremonial) post on Clinton's finance committee, CNN is reporting.

The move comes after Ferraro first suggested that Obama owed his success in the presidential contest to his race, and then defended her comment in combative terms, accusing Obama of tarring foes as racist, and saying she was being attacked because she is white.

She was absolutely right and you all know it. Obama is black and taking the black vote and that is okay with everyone. But if someone mentions the fact that people are caught up in it, then everyone freaks out.

He can use it to his advantage or not. He needs to take his pick. He can't have it both ways. He more than likely wouldn't be where he is if he were white.

Don't pretend otherwise.

Flashback

Placid of demeanor but pointed in his rhetoric, Jackson struck out repeatedly today against those who suggest his race has been an asset in the campaign. President Reagan suggested Tuesday that people don't ask Jackson tough questions because of his race. And former representative Geraldine A. Ferraro (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that because of his "radical" views, "if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn't be in the race."

Asked about this at a campaign stop in Buffalo, Jackson at first seemed ready to pounce fiercely on his critics. But then he stopped, took a breath, and said quietly, "Millions of Americans have a point of view different from" Ferraro's.

Discussing the same point in Washington, Jackson said, "We campaigned across the South . . . without a single catcall or boo. It was not until we got North to New York that we began to hear this from Koch, President Reagan and then Mrs. Ferraro . . . . Some people are making hysteria while I'm making history."

Damage Control

UPDATE: Ferraro's note to Hillary:

Dear Hillary –
I am stepping down from your finance committee so I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself about what is at stake in this campaign.

The Obama campaign is attacking me to hurt you.

I won't let that happen.

Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do to make this a better world for my children and grandchildren.

You have my deep admiration and respect.

Gerry

And this is along the same lines as how Deukmejian defeated Tom Bradley for governor. Let somebody else make an issue out of Bradley being a black man, then step away from that "somebody else" while at the same time making it into as divisive an issue as possible....

Barack Obama is a leader, a star in a field of dull, lacklustre individuals....

Mayor Sam, you're calling your IQ into question, comparing Ferraro's comments to Jesse Jackson's "Hymie Town" ref. And Obama's spiritual advisor's extolling Louis Farrakhan, who also jumps on the same anti- semitic bangwagon in looking for why the black man is being kept down in the hood.

She's not racist at all, just not PC. No one but a liar could deny that a lot of people and the media haven't annointed Obama because he's black, and "looks like America" is a common reason given.

What does "looks like America" mean, you think? That Americans have big ears? I don't think so.
