Palin for VP: It's Time

At the wine bar at HOWS in North Hollywood Tuesday night, folks were talking Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate. Now that McCain has clinched the GOP nomination, its time to move Palin to the top of the short list for VP. And if you watch this recent interview, while playing by the rules and ruling out 2008, Palin is definitely interested.

"If McCain is to beat the Democrats, he has to pick a woman or a minority," one wine drinker said. Another, a registered Democrat in her 60s said "I saw her on the KTLA Morning Show and she is one hell of a smart lady. I'd vote for her."

In a Real Clear Politics poll, Palin came in third as respondents' choice only behind Condoleeza Rice and JC Watts and ahead of Michael Steele and Colin Powell, further cementing that McCain's choice can not be another old white guy like himself. Momentum is clearly building for the 43 year old MILF-tastic soccer mom (here are some excerpts of an Alaska Magazine article that shows that Palin is real person) kicked ass in Alaska. I bet Valley Doll would like Sarah!

McCain/Palin:
There's been a concern among Republican voters that the vice president be someone who could step into the presidency literally at a moment's notice. There were three ways Mr. McCain could go: try to consolidate the party base by tapping a conservative, try to reinforce his appeal to independent voters by picking someone with crossover appeal, or try to win a swing state or region by taking geography into account. Several governors have been mentioned as potential running mates. They include Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, an early supporter; Charlie Crist of Florida, whose last-minute endorsement helped Mr. McCain win that crucial swing state's primary; Jon Huntsman Jr. of Utah, an early supporter despite Mitt Romney's popularity in his state; and Mark Sanford of South Carolina, whose conservative reputation could help Mr. McCain with the base but who did not endorse him. Former governors have been mentioned as well, including Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania, whose support of abortion rights could cause Mr. McCain trouble with conservatives who are already wary of him. Two of his primary opponents - Mr. Romney and Mike Huckabee - also fall into the ex-governor category. Mr. Huckabee, has a reputation as a good campaigner but is distrusted by some economic conservatives for raising taxes. Mr. Romney, a former Massachusetts governor with a business background, often sparred brutally with Mr. McCain, but endorsed him swiftly and would bring a financial background to the ticket. Rob Portman, a former Ohio congressman and director of the Office of Management and Budget, is also mentioned as someone who could bring a financial background to the ticket.

Please don't make us suffer through your early campaigning for Palin.

I am very sorry to say there is no chance that a guy like McCain would choose someone like Palin. This isn't the casting department for an ABC yuppie drama.

Do you really think the American people would allow her to be Commander In Chief? Please don't waste our time anymore with your puppy love political wishes.

Go buy a Maxim magazine and get back to reality.

5:25 am - a sad Hillary supporter.

If I was a Democrat the last thing I would do is support Hillary. Do you want to suffer through 4 let alone 8 years of a President who always sounds like a wife yelling at her husband for coming home too early? I think I would even support Barbara Boxer or Nancy Pelosi or John Kerry before Hillary.

I think when the history of the race is written Hillary will turn out being the 2008 version of Nixon in 1960.

All I can hope for is that Barack wins the nomination just in case McCain loses.

But for you dum dum, momentum for Palin is building (come on second only to Condi and JC Watts? WAY ahead of Romney, Huckabee, Rudy, etc.). Pundits like Fred Barnes and Rush Limbaugh are boosting her. She's traveling around the US, the media is interested in her (and now that McCain is official the only thing the press has to do is to scrutinize the Veepstakes).

McCain needs a running mate who can boost him both with independents, younger adults, conservatives, etc. Palin is the one candidate who can do that and bring him significant attention.

McCain will also need a running mate who is an attack dog against Hillary or Obama. An old white guy attacking Hillary or Barack will be problematic. However Palin 1) is good at it and has already gone after Barack and 2) Palin is the same age as Obama and the same gender as Hillary therefore she can be seen as a peer and not someone unfairly beating up on them.

SO stay tuned for more. If you want a Palin free zone, read LA Observed. Though he may put up girly pictures of her.

Oh Michael, Michael, Michael - you are too funny. Don't be scared of her. She's not comparable to Nixon.

None of us really care if you push for Palin. It's your blog and you get to do what you want.

Go Hillary!

Condi is a good choice in many ways but McCain would not pick her because she's too tainted by GWB.

I also believe she is planning to go back to Stanford. Her dream job is NFL commissioner.

Generally, people vote for the Presidential candidate, not the Vice Presidential candidate. I did know someone who vote for the Gore-Lieberman ticket because the voter liked Lieberman.
