$3500 of NC Money Spent on Cameras

Yet the City has $500K to spend on calligraphy each year.

But the people who represent you on the Neighborhood Council buy the emotional argument that we NEED to spend the money on cameras to fight dreaded crime, though these cameras are questionable.

As soon as the vote passed, the Qstar people left, chesire smiles on their face and they're going to ask for more later.

How much $$$ did Qstar give to City Council members? We'll tell you soon.

By the way, myself and two others voted no; we are now seen as "anti-public safety."

you losers should have brought Jim Gilchrist in to defeat Proposition S instead of that pansy Walter Moore. Watching him on TV from his living room on election night was pathetic. He looked like a crazy cat lady, not someone who will protect our borders.

Neighborhood Councils should not be looked upon as sources of funding for budget short falls in City Departments.

Thank you to Michael Higby for standing up for the taxpayers!

Well, we tried. Its hard for these people to stand up with the Councilwoman, her aides, the camera company and the senior lead officer putting on the pressure to do it.

They think that the Neighborhood Council is some sort of club the city has given them to spend money for things "to benefit the community."

They don't understand the true role of Councils is to empower the community.

That's something that the late Carol Baker Tharp tried to explain - that the Councils HAVE to do outreach. That's the purpose of the money.

What next? NC's paying for police overtime to increase local neighborhood patrols? Paying for
graffiti removal teams, bulky item pick ups, or even pothole repair?
This money should be used for outreach, helping residents to learn about issues that affect them, and empowering them to make their voice heard in the City.

Glassel Park NC bought camera's, had them installed and they were stolen before the electricty was connected. Those kids were fast!

Cameras yes!
QSTARS ARE JUNK!!!

Just think Wendy Greuel wants to be City Controller. Not with irresponsible decisions like Qstar.

Someone should audit her campaign contributions.

And the notion is - you're a bad person if you don't support these cameras.

Oh another thing - normally these people want to kick business and developers BUT since these cameras will be installed near businesses and protecting private property they couldn't even fathom the idea of the private property and business owners paying for their own damn cameras.

Lets not blame the policemen for the camera that accompanied the picture. I am sure they were not showing any pictures but rather going thru a dark room. Kinda like getting "tatooed?" Just my 2 cents.

Cameras all over the city are a great crime deterent. Sadly, its not the job of NC's to spend their money buying them when clowncil members waste millions on special event waivers. You figure $82 million is wasted on prevention/intervention gang programs and Laura Chick N SHit was given $500,000 from city council to do an AUDIT and she didn't. WHY/ Because it was have opened a can of political worms. LA Bridges donated to 6 council members including Antonio. Why didn't DAVID Z in his story in today's LA Slimes ask her the question? Has he been bought out and become a lapdog too?

Laura just released her gang audit today, dum dums, except the Times article said it was done by some outside firm. Probably to keep politics out of it. Cardenas is mad that after his telenovela acting moment, and getting the Council to sign off on his heading a task force with a blank check, Chick recommended that the gang prevention stuff all be put under control of the Mayor's office.

Bratton is clearly on board with this, was with the Mayor at the media photo ops. Cardenas called this "politicing of the worst kind," boo-hoo: all that acting, and he's not the boss of gang fighting.

Cardenas committee partner Janice Hahn was with the Mayor and Bratton too -- she wants to tax property owners for "her" gang tax, so she's on the side of anyone who can give her the publicity to push her tax.

Vote NO on Janice's tax. Property values are so low and people are losing their investments, but that bushy haired woman still wants to tax them further.

Chick said "some people" divert gang funds to their own districts, meaning of course Hahn and Reyes included.

Another reason for oversight from the Mayor's office, not one or two councilmembers who demand all the gang cops for their neighborhoods, but then aren't even there to back them up when it counts.

Right now some HOAs are buying their own cameras, so hitting up the NC's is better than going after individual homeowners to chip in.

Glassell Park didn't buy any cameras. CD 13 Eric Garcetti funded the cameras. What they did buy was airline tickets for Northeast LAPD Explorers to go to Arizona. What gets me, why didn't all the NC's under the jurisdiction of Northeast, pay for the trip? I know why, GPNC's office Manager, Art Camarillo's son in law is a watch commander for Northeast. Hmm, can you say, preferential treatment? They fast tracked that funding PDQ. Meanwhile, other community members in Glassell Park have to grovel for funding.
