Sunday Morning Mimosa

Aw...damn it. Suzanne Pleshette, 1937-2008. Yet again: lung cancer.

Here's a blog devoted to aggregating stories relevant to transportation in LA: LosAngelesTransportation.blogspot.com.

Oh, really? The Downtown News quotes Related Cos.' Bill Witte on why there's been no groundbreaking on Grand Avenue as yet:
"The groundbreaking is more of a symbolic event," Witte told Los Angeles Downtown News last week. "It has little to do with where we are in the project schedule. We are continuing ahead, and we have the wherewithal to do it."

We have two words explaining the groundbreaking delay: Frank Gehry. Gehry won the commission in 1989; the Disney Hall groundbreaking came only in 1999.

But we already told you so.
Or did you already forget how the Disney Hall was delivered a decade late and a hundred million over budget?

BTW, add the Downtown News' Anna Scott to the City's short roster of very dependable City reporters worth following.

Gail "GPS" Goldberg's bizarre Historic Employment Preservation Zone downtown is shutting down the highly successful loft movement there, the LA Business Journal notes. "“Under this policy, it looks like it could remain a parking lot for years to come. It’s a shame, not to allow the evolution of a unique neighborhood."

Murders on the perimeter: a body is found with stab wounds under an overpass in Porter Ranch. Homicides at a party in Long Beach; problems in Compton, altogether totalling eleven shootings, reported in the Times.

Missed this last week, but it turns out Al Martinez is a member of the Writer's Guild. And family think he's looking more like Homer Simpson every day. So why not a column reflecting on why the purportedly pro-Union Mayor hasn't been jawboning the studios?

You are exactly one leap year away from inaugurating a new President. So hold on.

Suzanne was the best (tv) wife Bob Newhart ever had.

*******

And can someone tell me when Topanga Blvd. at the 118 suddenly became Porter Ranch?.

Oh yeah, when the developers started building West of Tampa and North of Rinaldi and slapping $1 mil+ homes up in the hills. Chatsworth doesn't sound as snazzy as Porter Ranch, does it?

xoxo

ps. I want the George K. Porter sitting atop his horse statue back now, thnx. And you'd better not put it up anywhere West of Porter Ranch Drive, or my head will explode. xo

Thanks for the update on Suzanne Pleshette. Captain Kangaroo and a lot of other people died, too. Maybe someone can post a list of all the Hollywood actors from the 70's who have passed away in the past year. I think it has everything to do with this blog.

Is this former "Home of Los Angeles Politics" blog?

Dude, if you think Grand Avenue, downtown Industrial Preservation Zones and aren't political, why don't you pay a visit to a committee meeting sometime?

Oh, I forgot---the people in the Mayor's cubicle farm don't bother to attend those.

Captain Kangaroo is dead, too? Him, Johnny Grant and Suzanne Pleschette all at once is just too much.

Somehow, Jim Belushi and his dingbat wife, or the other couples' shows, aren't the same. The new set of wives are all second-fiddle bimbos.

(Everybody Loves Raymond was the last gsp of the breed...) The others go back to the legacy of Suzanne Sommers. Who's not as dumb in real life as she seemed. Maybe it's those bioidentical hormones.

And don't get me started on Capt. Kangaroo and Mr. Rogers. Didn't Mr. Rogers pass this year, too?

People on this blog are like a flock of desperate sheep.

Proposition S, M&Ms, LAUSD, Mr. Rogers, War in Iraq, Girl Scout cookies, Illegal Immigration, Fig Newtons, LAPD...whatever the issue, people are ready to jump in the conversation. I guess it never was about politics, but social belonging.

I guess, like some people on this blog, we could have a default setting and just rail against the Mayor and everyone who ever shook his hand or crossed his path even accidentally.

Or, like KKFI's Jon and Ken, railing against illegals is always a good fall-back position. Sure, they do create a lot of problems and borders need to be controlled.

But some of his followers/ lemmings don't know that they don't even care about the issue, they just use it to rile up the rest of you for ratings.

So says John Ziegler as part of his parting salvo against his former associates. And he says a lot more.

Ever notice how Jon-Ken are always watching the clock to the second and cut off a speaker in time for a commercial break, without even pretending they're listening to what he's going on about then?

They record a lot of this stuff in advance so they can take holidays == Ziegler says they'd never have stayed on the air this long if they couldn't.

It's all about the money. Follow the money, KKFI fans.

"The John & Ken Show is fundamentally fraudulent and makes professional wrestling seem credible in comparison" (attributed to Ziegler)

Waitaminnit, is someone trying to say wrestling is fake?!

I don't know about all that JM but the Disney Hall is already world renown, a staggering beauty with acoustics to match.
The forthcoming arrival of the "wunderkind" Fernando Dudamel from Venezuela to lead the LA Phil, following the peerless Ekka Peka Solonen, and after taking the world of classical music by storm, Dudamel,The Disney Hall, and LA are the envy of the classical music world.
Stay Tuned!

Joe M,

There are probably 11 shootings on many weekends thanks to all the mexican gang members in the Los Angeles area. The only difference this weekend, is that you saw a news report about the shootings. Just read the L.A. Times homicide report to learn about all the mayhem low life mexican gang members cause. Almost all mexican gang members are aligned with the mexican mafia prison gang, that is why you see the number 13 (letter M) in the name of most mexican street gangs.

Even in a small town like Monrovia there have been many shootings thanks again to mexican gang members killing blacks. The blacks have been innocent victims of low life mexican gang members for years. The Florencia13 gang killed many blacks around Florence. And the mexicans killed an innocent old black man in Monrovia last week.

If we let more mexicans into Calif. we will be just like Tijuana where gangs and drug lords kill police and innocent victims.

25% of our cailf. prisoners all illegal aliens, mostly from mexico. This is just one problem all the illegal aliens from mexico have brought to Calif.

Don't worry your pretty little headbone over TV news mis-locating L.A. suburbs. I notice , Glassel Park, Cypress Park and even Lincoln Heights are all magically Mt. Washington and the West Valley is Northridge or West Hills, not Reseda, Canoga Park, Winnetka or Chatsworth.

Hey anony-mouse racist at 4:30pm the mexican people are the hardest working most honest people I know. The blacks, mayates, chanates are the lazy criminals in Los Angeles. When mexicans move into an area of blacks the crime rate goes down. Now shut up anony-mouse, Jethro, Homer trailer-park redneck your mama needs you to adjust the coat-hanger antenna on the roof of your trailer. lol

Mailander,

Today is your lucky day. The Times fired another editor for not cutting the budget. I know you like to cover newspapers.
