Attention David Hiller

One thing you get a feeling for over the years: my friend Kevin Roderick may be many things, but he is not very shrewd.

Maybe that's a compliment---I don't know. Or maybe he spent too much time on Spring Street to act effectively in his own self-interest.

As evidence, just take a peek at what The Kevin has to say about David Hiller inviting him to a charity power lunch:

"Speaking of rumor-mongering LA websites, I still have not heard from Kevin Roderick about my offer to contribute $1,000 to United Way to take him to lunch, if he does the same. Would somebody please leak THAT to Kevin?" Well, they did. I emailed Hiller back a couple of weeks ago, but perhaps wasn't clear enough: Yes I'm available for lunch, but it doesn't cost anything. No, I don't do odd attention-seeking gimmicks with publishers of big newspapers, even for charity. If I were inclined, wouldn't the right challenge have been to match the same percentage of our vastly differing incomes? Anyway, as always I'm gratified that the top guy at the LAT follows LA Observed so closely.

And thereby Kevin, in his anxiety to dis the Times (well, admittedly---who doesn't suffer that anxiety?), blew an opportunity to counter. Methinks he could have easily raised $2,000---not for the plainwrap United Way---but for the more meaningful charity of his choice.

So...

Atention David Hiller:

First off, I personally deeply resent what you implied about my friend Kevin Roderick, whom you dismiss as a rumor-monger. That was awful of you. Nobody---NOBODY---mongers well-founded rumors in this town the way MayorSam.blogspot.com does.

(When your paper finally begins to see value in floating well-founded rumors---even the altruism in that kind of activity---then maybe, maybe you'll begin to form a cogent Internet strategy.)

(Because, unlike print, you see, the Internet is Interactive...just like the best talk on your third floor....)

And that's why I'm offering you this chance to make good on your offer to have lunch. Not necessarily with Kevin, but with a TRUE rumor-mongering blogger: me.

David---do you really want to take a rumor-mongering blogger to lunch?

I'll match you dollar for dollar for a $1,000 charity lunch, as long as....

  • ...it all comes out of your personal pocket, and
  • ...it all goes to Run for Her, the Women's Cancer charity centered around the efforts of some very talented local gynecological oncologists, who fight the good fight.

First likely item of business: it's about time the people at your fishwrap stopped worrying about ancien regime prostate cancer cases so much---if you know who I mean---and I'm sure you do---and started contributing, both dollars and attention, to women's cancer charities too, especially considering your readership demographics.

And beyond that---it's anyone's guess what might happen.

Maybe we'll talk about the way your paper has not followed its readers out to the suburbs.

Maybe we'll talk about my biggest bugabear of all: your paper's failure to invest in cutting edge graphic artists (so necessary for old tech!) and printing equipment.

Or maybe we'll just talk about---Kevin Roderick.

(Hey, if you really want him there, I'll pay his way too!)

But really. You should talk to somebody. Because with your fake power riff against not just Kevin but the whole LA blogosphere, you just demonstrated how utterly disconnected you are from us.

You're the one who's losing readers---not us. Maybe you should pay not just mine, but a few more blogger's way, eh?

We're the Angeleno blogosphere---the best civic blogosphere on the planet---and we suck eyeballs off of your paper monthly, weekly, daily, hourly. If you want to talk about "rumor-mongering websites"---well, that explains a lot about why it's happening so fast.

PS Nick---will you forward this to David? Nobody else at your paper I'm sure has the guts to.

Pretty funny. But there's clever rumor-mongering, and then there's your zuma dogg, who makes himself the center of rumors and clandestine spying on his pie eating, while trash talking anyone he mentions during the course of his rumor mongering. Can you draw the line at trash talking and name calling and stick to rumor mongering?

As for Hiller on Roderick, that's odd because all Roderick does is repost stuff from other papers.

The guy just seems to read a lot.

Doesn't even monger rumors at all.

Although he does choose items that make politicians look as silly as possible. The Times has been doing this lately itself, like the way it reported on who is and isn't taking the much-ado-about nothing pay raise. Is selective editing the same as rumor mongering? If so, the Times is doing it too, since Zahniser showed up, especially.

Good charity to focus on, Joseph.
Can you get Perry to join you on those walks, and Parks, whose district has the most obese kids? And get Huizar along, too, and out of his cars which he rides in to wave at the people during his endless parades, like he's the President of a banana republic or something.

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen (removes hat with flourish and bows low):

For the record, sots, That Kevin is NOT part of our pirate crew, and neither is Mister Hiller. We have, if you will, already made a rather substantial donation to Run For Her having made the decision NOT to donate to another worthy organization that a certain DONE staffer has a fondness for, savvy?

And we agree, that were are rumours and then there are Rumours with a capital "R". It's those rumours that not only make for interesting cocktail party talk, but also become most valuable nuggets of information for pirates like us, savvy?

Speaking of rumours, one has reached our ears that bears repeating. Two sots from the local school district were discussing "things" at a local luncheon cafe earlier this week, when one says to the other one, "Better call the Unions now and start raising money rather than wait to see what sort of war chest "appears out of thin air" when she announces her run for office..."

Wonder who they were talking about? Then again, it's just a rumour. If it's anyone important, surely the sots whose paid employment is to quickly spin in a direction opposite of Captain Jack will most immediately post here. For we all know that when the likes of doggs and pirates post, spin happens, savvy?

TITLE: CITY ATTORNEY ROCKY DELGADILLO SECURES CONVICTION OF L.A. MAN
FOUND TAKING UPSKIRT PHOTOS OF GIRL
DATE: 11/16/2007

With all the murderers out there Rocky only goes after these little criminals. He goes after people for looking up some girls skirt or an old man who has too many cats. He goes after little criminals when there are more dangerous criminals out there. He's too frightened and inept to go after the real criminals.

Well written the blogging burros are nothing more than rumor mongers. And there is also Zuma Mutt, who is paranoid. And thinks we all work on the third floor of city hall and spy on him.

Rocky is the city attorney and does not prosecute dangerous criminals. that is the job of the District Attorneys office.

The city attorney goes after people who don't clean up their back yard of trash. Or people who live out of their van on the street and throw trash out their van's window.

That's not true, Rocky spinner.

Why else would he keep elbowing into Bratton's press conferences about his gang initiatives? Rocky's Bullwinkle face and foolish comments are always forced upon the scene.

If you just admitted Rocky has had no part of trying to round up gangs and it's not his job (the latter part isn't true), why does he keep crashing on Bratton's achievements?

2:44 Burro calling me a spinster. LOL

I see the readers of the "Blogging Burros" need to be educated. The city attorney can use gang injunction and charge gangs with misdemeanor crimes.

The Los Angeles D.A. prosecutes "capital"/felony crimes.

The City Attorney has limited capability to handle gangs. The recent RICO indicments against Florencia, 18th st, and MS-13 gangs was done by feds and Los Angeles Metropolitan Task Force on Violent Crime (LA Task Force).

CRIMINAL BRANCH OPERATIONS

As the City's chief prosecutor, the City Attorney prosecutes all misdemeanor criminal offenses and infractions committed within the City of Los Angeles. Through seven Criminal Branches, located throughout the City of Los Angeles, City Attorneys prosecute a wide range of misdemeanor crimes, and violations of the local Los Angeles Municipal Code, including Fire, Building and Safety, and Health Code violations.

In these cases the criminals are facing stiffer federal charges.

The city attorney "assists" does NOT prosecute. The city attorney may have names of informants and known gang members which Feds do not.

You haven't addressed why Rocky Bullwinkle keeps elbowing into the Chief's News Conferences about gang initiatives, just keep reiterating the misdemeanor- felony distinction (yes, we all know that). Tagging and truancy are misdemeanors that can and often do lead to felonies -- he could be going after these things and plenty more involving gangs. Gangs congregating outside businesses and intimidating owners and customers is a common complaint and he's gone out to Panorama City with the local cops promising to help some besieged bar owners, but after his photo op, they never saw any results. Just one of many cases.

And excuse me, but he manages to horn in on any number of Bratton's press conferences, even just a few days ago. But as you keep admitting, he never actually does a thing to thwart the gangs.

And he

C.A. Delgadillo should have already resigned if he had any responsibility to show for his actions. Instead, he's working with a pay raise that appears to be 20% higher than what the council people are getting.

He has still never really provided any coherent story to account for the series of events that a City Attorney should not let happen.

Is it the City Council that is paying for outside counsel for advise instead of the C.A.? More waste of money.

And the way this all looks is that there is not going to be any change for the better in the near OR distant future without some key changes in the laws under which they all operate.

Just because something looks to be within the letter of the law does not make it "right"- see Fabian Nunez for example. He has an explanation for anything presented. They are lame and don't make it any more palatable for any of us, but he's got the excuses.

Is that the next candidate for Mayor after Villar/raigosa leaves?

How will he fleece us then?
