Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Tuesday
An LA Times reader writes to take issue with Bill Rosendahl's parochial approach to transportation issues. When it comes to bus lanes on Wilshire Boulevard, Rosendahl's stance is apparently "not in my district." By the way, Wikipedia's article on Rosendahl identifies him as the first openly gay member of the Los Angeles City Council. I believe that distinction belongs to Jackie Goldberg.
Rick Orlov reports that Mayor Villaraigosa "cried" when he watched
the Disney flick, "The Lion King" and would like to appear in a cameo on the hit ABC show, "Ugly Betty." Also, Richard Alarcon gearing up for his next race?
LA Clippers owner and mega-real estate developer Donald T. Stirling has plans to build a $50 million homeless center downtown. Though Stirling may face opposition in some quarters, a number of homeless activists are supporting the plan.
Major blow to Tennie Pierce in his multi-million dollar dog food case. A judge ruled that Pierce can not sue the City for the blowback that occurred when his City Council approved settlement case went public and was vetoed by Mayor Villaraigosa. Pierce's attorneys have 20 days to convince the court otherwise.
The LA City Council often takes positions on matters that aren't City issues. This despite the fact that Council President Eric Garcetti regularly admonishes public commenteers at Council meetings to "stick to matters within the city's jurisdiction." It was only a matter of time before a local neighborhood council would begin its own foreign policy. The Palms Neighborhood Council plans to take a straw vote of citizens on the war in Iraq. How about sticking to land use, potholes and crime?
The Metropolitan Transportation Agency has authorized the purchase of up to 100 new super-sized buses for a total of $86 million. The MTA says the new buses can seat more passengers than a regular bus and will be used to improve service on high-capacity lines.
I always like the "Here In Van Nuys" blog but I don't always agree with their posts. A tragedy that someone built a tacky house in Pacific Palisades? Not really. Its your constitutional right to be as tacky as you want with your property. Lets just hope you have the sense not to be.

REPEAT: RE TENNIE PIERCE CASE

I read the comments and I'm still waiting for the voice of reason and good judgement. I agree Pierce participated in pranks against his fellow firefighters; however, the basis of his complaint is what happened AFTER the pranks: his superiors participated, they tried to conceal and/or falsify reports about the situation, and Pierce was unable to get relief after having made his complaint. No other fire station would accept him and he could not continue to work at the site of the incident. The LAFD, in my opinion, is being penalized for their failure to address a hostile work environment (which could also be a EEOC complaint) and for their deceptive handling of the situation. Just MHO

I was born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1909. After high school, I moved to LA to study law. I worked with the DWP, later served in the State Legislature, was in World War II, served as a lawyer, went back to the Assembly, then Congress. I ran for many seats I lost but eventually became Mayor of LA in 1961. sportsbook I served until 1973 when I got beat by Tom Bradley. I have hosted a TV show, a radio show, appeared in movies and TV shows - even once with Lucille Ball! I even ran for governor, US President and one more time for Mayor in 1981. I died in 1998 at my home in Studio City. Not a bad run. Not bad at all.
