And despite a bad track record, Academia Semillas del Pueblo, which offers, among other languages, courses in Nahuatl-Mexicano, gets its charter renewed.

UTLA pressure is thought to have blocked the Green Dot expansion. The Green Dot Charter might have been approved, ironically, had Green Dot consultant David Tokofsky not recused himself from the vote.
Tokofsky's recusal serves as a reminder of how badly the School Board is ordinarily gamed. Do UTLA members routinely recuse themselves on issues affecting the Union? Would a Mayor-sponsored candidate ever recuse herself on an issue affecting control of the District?
Congrats to Tokofsky for exhibiting some honor among the thieves of our children's future.

Monica Garcia was expanding by the minute. LAUSD staff had to bring in fresh baked cookies from all the school cafeterias in her district to help her make it through the meeting. She's getting to be about the size of two Gloria Molinas. Que gordo!

Again this city is going down the tubes with our electeds supporting everything ILLEGAL. Just take a stroll down Broadway that once was a tourist attraction but now is like walking in Beriut with all the illegals, trash, criminals, stink etc. LA is not considered nor does it have the appeal it use to before our Mecha Mayor got in office. Since his 2 yrs. this city has deteroriated horribly yet he sits and supports the wrong groups. But then again we need to remember Antonio has no class, fairy educated and only got elected cause he's Latino. I wouldn't be proud of getting in just because of my race. Plus what has he done??? Other city Mayors are having their State of the City but not Antonio. He's still fixing traffic lights,planting tree, filling potholes. Wonder what other big city Mayors are doing? You can bet not this crap!!!
Tokofsky "honor among thieves"??? Give us a break. He manages to vote for every issue affecting charters other than specifically Green Dot, including facilities issues, etc. that indirectly affect/benefit Green Dot.
The irony is that this "victory" for the school means the children who most need a good education will instead waste 12 years at the end of which they will be qualified only for the same menial jobs they could have gotten without any education whatsoever.
Congratulations, Academia! Mission accomplished! You've truly succeeded in bringing failed Third-World "education" to the U.S. A few more victories like this, and you will transform California into the mirror image of the impoverished country from which you fled in the first place.

Every damn professional job within the city of L.A. now places a premium on being bilingual. LAUSD schools currently specialize in creating Latino graduates who speak pocho Spanish AND can't complete a full sentence in English -- i.e., dysfunctionally bilungual.
But, of course, for someone like you, who can TELL from a second story window, as you stated here previously, that a busload of voters ar ILLEGAL (just vy looking at them, and the color of their skin), that's not really this issue, is it?

I'll try a crack at that one, although I can't speak for Walter.
With people like Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and George Bush running the show in Washington, and with big business continually lusting for cheap, docile labor from Latin America, there's not a very good chance that illegals will be "shipped back." Therefore, since a large number of will be here for the foreseeable future, why not encourage them to be part of the American (read: not Aztec separatist, not anti-American, not poorly educated, not hopeless and not nurturing an ethnic grudge) fabric?
Just a note here: The children will NOT have 12 years of Semilla education. The school doesn't go up to the high school years.
(Then they will have to go to another school to fill-in all those academic skills that they missed during their time there.)

(EL SERENO) Following the failure of an employee to properly secure her tether, Los Angeles School Board Member Monica Garcia lifted off from the school district's Beaudry avenue headquarters.
Garcia floated for several hours until LAUSD police finally shot her down. Garcia descended quickly; crash landing into Academia Semillas de Pueblo.
Authortities estimated damage to be in the range of $100,000.
