Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday

Neither the UTLA, the school board incumbents nor Mayor Villaraigosa appear to have the stomach for the coming battle in the run-off between Tamar Galatzan and Jon Lauritzen but they're going to go through with it anyway. This old, dead Republican mayor is curious as to who third place finisher and the guy who should have won Louis Pugliese will support, if anyone. Louie! Give Mayor Sam an exclusive!

They're going to have trash a lot of letterhead and signage at the State Assembly office of Richard Alarcon as he gets ready to take his new (old) City Council seat in a few weeks. In the meantime, the new (old) Councilman showed up at City Hall to strut like a banty rooster and reclaim the first seat in the horseshoe as they are given out alphabetically.

The Long Beach Press Telegram is urging politicians in their community to not emulate the boondoggle "LA Bridges" anti-gang program, which has spent $100 million over 10 years and gang violence is worst than ever. They praise Mayor Villaraigosa for putting a hold on the funding for the program through September. We agree. How about just sending the money to the LAPD?

LAist catches up with Melrose Larry Green is sort of a "proto Zuma Dogg" but nowhere near as smart nor focused. He's a gadfly who's been part of the Howard Stern show and seems to show up everywhere. In fact, when Zuma Dogg first showed up on the scene, Melrose recognized the threat and told Zuma to "shut up" at a City Hall meeting. Los Angeles tax accountant Mark Neuman (by the way if you need a good CPA to handle your taxes, email Mayor Sam and I'll pass your name and number to Mark) often runs into Melrose and gets Larry to leave voice mail messages for friends and co-workers.

The LA Times recaps some of the "big mother" laws state politicians want to impose. For some reason they feel they need to protect us from trans-fats, dogs and cats that aren't fixed and incandescent light bulbs. Hopefully Arnold will veto these ridiculous bills if by chance any of them pass the legislature.

The "Encounters" restaurant in the "Theme Building" at LAX will be closed for at least six months officials say. A 1000 pound chunk of concrete fell off the building recently, which hasn't been renovated since it went up in the 50s.

Election Day Problems
Yesterday morning I went to cast my ballot at the San Pedro Elks Lodge (the address on my sample ballot) and my name was not on the voter rolls.

I had to file a provisional ballot and it concerned me. Especially because other people might not have bothered with a provisional ballot and just gone home...And who would have blamed them?

I am asking the City Clerk to look into this incident and a few others that have been reported to my office. If you had a similar experience when trying to vote yesterday, please let me know. You can call my office at 213/473-7015 or email me at janice.hahn@lacity.org.

Here is a copy of the press release I put out and the letter I sent to the Clerk asking for an investigation: http://www.lacity.org/council/cd15/hot/cd15hot249143802_03072007.pdf

THIS JUST IN...

Zuma Dogg says mayoral supporters lead ZD to believe the mayor had tons of wind knocked out of his sail, by not clinching the LAUSD board on March 6th, and knows that his support is deteriorating faster than the wicked witch of the west caught outside during a rainstorm.

plus, the fact that even zd's empty knit ski cap knows the mayor can never win his ab 1381 challenge in court...and now the mayor finally realizes it -- all means, it's time for Mayor Antonio to beg hillary for the vp slot, cause his politcal career is DONE in this county -- and now antonio, it's time to lick your wounds, pick yourself up off the ground, dust yourself off, like you have so many times before -- tell eli and riorend to back up off your tip, holla at ya boy zd, and let's do some big-big tings, mon!

Uh, 7:50 a.m. to hear Walter Moore prattle on about his own second vanity campaign? Pass! If it were Janice Hahn, maybe.

I'll take Elayne Boosler and Merrill Markoe (subbing for Stephanie Miller this week) over on KTLK any day. They're both better looking, smarter and funnier than Walter. Maybe THEY should run for Mayor!

Mornin' Mayor,

I'm just waking up (yawn) from my 48 hour nap. I understand I have a number of unspecified meetings and conferences with a number of unspecified interested parties in the near future.

If and when I am confident that either of the remaining candidates is aware of, and ready to act on, the urgent need for complete overhaul of the schools- REDESIGN, not just "reform"- including (shudder) curriculum and assessment, which must be addressd at the state and federal levels, then, and only then, will I support one or the other.

You will be the first to know.

Louis

Mayoral Fans have diminished in grand numbers. Villaraigosa showed up at Huizar's victory bash and most of people were gone.

Huizar is by far a better politician.

Mayor Sam: good morning sir.

When the tungsten filament incandescent light bulb first went into commercial production, Woodrow Wilson was President, World War One hadn't started, and the Wright Brothers were making their first commercial flight in Ohio.
I'm sure you don't drive a Model T or use an XT286 computer, yet you champion this 19th century technology.
They're cheap but nasty, and waste 90% of the energy they consume. that energy comes from where? the DWP buy it with your money.
its a fact. until they ban them, commercial interests will continue to market and sell them to make a buck, but the hidden cost is probably staggering.

Matt Dowd says that law IS coming, you might as well outfit your hacienda now, and start seeing the savings immediately on your electricity bill.
PS. compact fluoro bulbs now last 10 times longer than the 19th century thing, and one bulb will reduce power plant emissions by 450 lbs over its lifetime.
If every American home replaced just one light bulb, we would save enough energy to light more than 2.5 million homes for a year and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of nearly 800,000 cars.

we got the 1 dollar coin, and next its the lightbulb. and maybe maybe one day the metric system instead of the crazy OLD imperial one.
if we're moving forward with development, we might as well move with everything else.
Matt Dowd for City Attorney :)

Great observation on "HIS POLLONESS". Further, I will go out on a "STRONG OAK LIMB", and say that "HUIZZY" will accomplish more in his political dealing than "HIS POLLONESS"

In case you didn't know my favorite TV show is probably NYPD for it's writing, directing and acting. And Dennis Franz is my all-time favorite TV actor (along with Carrol O Connor as Archie). So when he walked into Starbucks where ZD was blogging from, I said hello, paid my respects and upon mentioning my name, "Zuma Dogg"...Mr. Franz immediatley replied, "Oh sure, I've seen your show on TV." And he told me to "keep doing what you're doing." YEAH, YEAH...Hoooody Hoooooo....
Dennis Franz, thanks for the inspiration...it meant TONS to ZD!
