Video Blogging: It's Not Just For Zuma Dogg Any More

Okay, first of all, let me say that on days when I garden, I don't necessarily shave right away. Second, the name of the group is "the Advancement Project," NOT "the Advancement Group."

Anyway, here's a stab at instant, unedited, nicotine-induced commentary from yours truly. The subject is the $2 billion figure Hahn's throwing around, but mostly this is a shake-down cruise for my posting brief videos here at Mayor Sam.

The good news is: production values can only go up from this, the "starter set."

Zuma, can you loan me one of those hats and some shades for bad hair days?

UPDATE - 2/8/07 - 5:35 P.M.
Someone was kind enough to give me a link to the memo from the Vera Institute of Justice. I'll read it and let you know how solid it looks. The good news is: it looks as though someone actually DID make a serious effort to quantify the cost of gangs, and did NOT simply "make up" the $2 billion number.

Not bad, Walter. You always have spoken well. You were the best speaker at the CHULA convention. In fact, I think you spoke better than the rest in all the debates I watched. You should run for City Council.

Thank you for your kind words. I won't be running for City Council. I'm running for the border.

Dude,

Congrats. Great job integrating video into your story. You come off great on video. And knucleheads like me would rather watch a video than have to read. Represent, y'all!!!

Hey, someone found and posted a link to the Vera study! I'm going to read it and get back to you all. Here it is: http://www.lacity.org/councilcmte/youthdev/AP.Final.Appendix11.pdf

It's on the City's website; the version of the Advancement Project I had previously downloaded lacked the appendices.

So this is good: it means someone actually did make an attempt to quantify the cost of gangs.

Good evening Mr. Moore (tips hat):

I must say that I was impressed with your broadcast. Very well spoken, on point and ever the gentleman with a cigar in hand. Knowing that you have traveled abroad, you exude a continental essence.

However, if you will, your voice sounds oddly familiar to one I have heard before. (Frowns and scratches head) Oh bugger, I know I have heard that voice before. Where HAVE I heard that voice before?

(Looks thoughtfully at the bard) Bard, give me a hint now, won't you?

(Bard clears his throat and begins to sing)

"It's a beautiful day in the neighbourhood. A beautiful day for a beauty; would you be mine? Could you be mine?"

(Jack snaps his fingers)
Bloody hell, that's IT! I've bloody got it! Now I know where I have heard that voice before!

You remind me of Fred Rogers. In fact, I am your neighbour. Can you say "Hi there neighbour"? I knew you could.

Not bad Walter and the cigar is a good touch. Unlike ZD though, I still very much appreciate the written word and reading a well-structured argument. But both the written word and videos have their place.

Yeah, everyone get on board and get that idiot judge off the bench. How can all those black teens who assaulted those white girls all get off? You know damn well if it was the other way around and it was white girls the blacks would be protesting and causing violence. What is happening to our judicial system? First the border patrol agents now this. Sign the petition
