Saturday: Your Open Mic, As It Were

The L.A. Times reported that the DWP just signed a contract to buy enough wind-generated electricity from an outfit in Utah to power 39,000 homes for 20 years. Omitted from the report was the price, and a comparison of that price to the price of electricity from other sources. However, even if it came at a premium, I could support it if it reduces our consumption of fuel from people in faraway lands.

The L.A. Times also reports that "City Councilman Bernard C. Parks took positions Friday that differed sharply from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's on gang policy, building a subway to the sea and the local school board race."

Channel 7 will have Villaraigosa and Bratton on TV tomorrow to discuss their plan regarding gangs. Channel 7 also had a fluff piece last night interviewing Connie Rice and Janice Hahn on the supposed $2 billion problem and the supposed $50 million-a-year solution -- to be funded, as usual, by a "modest" tax increase levied only on homeowners. Channel 7 apparently feels no need whatsoever to present opposing views or analysis. Hey, fellahs, why not ask someone from the L.A. Policy Institute for the other side of the story?

Okay, blog away. The election is approaching. Tell us what and for whom to vote, would you?

thanks for the war cost update. the article was claiming $10 billion just wasted on nothing. even if you support what I called World War III way back in chambers last year.

fascinating that Mr Parks is turning out to be the spanner in the AV works.

Bitter Bernie did nothing about the gang problem when he was Chief. He can't speak to his constituents but only to reporters. Hymon shame on you for giving him time. Bernie hasn't anything about the homicides in district either or has spoken out against them. Guess its ok for black people to kill innocent black people.

Janice Hahn the embezzle like KFI refers to her should just give it up. NO way a tax will pass for gang programs. WHY DOESN'T SHE SAY AUDIT AUDIT AUDIT the money $82 million wasted.

Channel 7 has become another bought out station owned by Disney that Antonio has given tons of awards to. Remember they are the only station that aired his dumb School town hall. Talk about bias reporting.

All these "modest" tax increases on homeowners add up. Man, we have a bunch of idiots in charge.

Something I would like to say regarding my article on SCAG, which I'm sure probably wasn't exactly the glowing tribute they had hoped for.

Although ZD is critical of SCAG as a governmental agency -- as a whole -- the organization itself is made up of a bunch of very smart individuals, who are trying their best (from their point of view).

The conversations I had with the people at SCAG were awesome. A real mind-blowing experience. Very helpful to ZD in putting the big picture together (as I see it) -- and they are smart people, (who I beleive) are TRYING to do the right thing. I do feel truly blessed by the opportunity to have access to such brilliant minds. (People pay millions to consultants for what ZD got to hear for free.)

ONLY PROBLEM: They are in charge of trying to get 187 cities, in six counties, with completely separate needs and interests to come together and agree on the bigger picture (and factor in that we're also dealing with politicians.)

You're average family of four can't even create a consensus regading Coke or Pepsi. BK or McDs. Plain or peanut M&Ms...

I heard CM Parks request to put some speed bumps the community asked for on hold, until a study could be done to see if they could paint the speed bump "yellow" instead of "white', cause "yellow" is easier to see.

So try and getting 76 of these politicians (the number of pols that comprises SCAG's board), from six very diffrent counties to agree on building a new highway, or where money should go....good luck.

So I do feel bad that the smart individuals at SCAG may have felt ZD was a little hard on them...But that's the point, I wasn't trying to be hard on the individuals, just the govt agency that costs between $20-$35 million a year to operate and it doesn't seem to be working.

But from here on in, I will be taking a lot of the great philosophies and recommendations and will be applying them to my writing and speaking.

So at the end of the day, hopefully ZD can help amplify the good things SCAG has to say, to help generate some of the politcal good will they need.

Gang problem has gotten worse, though, over the last several years. And that is NOT on his watch, but on Bratton's and Antonio's...

Also, naming gang "leaders" and crediting them for "their turf" sure doesn't sound like a rational way to turn off their "attraction" for more lost souls looking for recognition for whatever.

Anyone know French? Someone posted a video from France calling it "Zuma Dogg" style.

FIRST OF ALL, how did someone who speaks French in France hear about Zuma Dogg? Second of all, what's he saying. It looks funny (police confrontation).

Okay, I'm not sure, but I think it was something along the following lines: the police pulled him over in Paris because he was missing a sticker, and he did not have proof of insurance. Obviously the police weren't wild about the camera being on. Beyond that, it was too fast for me and used too many words.

Parks is right: subway-to-the-sea would tie up funds that could be used for other projects throughout the city. In a shorter length of time and for less money....

Bitter Bernie is responsible for "Rampart" losing 1,000 officers and the consent decree that has cost the city $70million and counting on lawsuits. Can you imagine having 1,000 extra officers on patrol!!The gang problem's gotten worse do you think because no one on clowncil has the guts to AUDIT the $82 million being wasted. Mabye if they stop giving money to Father Gang banger Boyle to help his gangsters stay out of jail and made him show where the millions he's gotten went there would be some accountability. There's a lot of corruption in those gang programs just read laweekly.com Yet not Laura Chick N Shit sits and does nothing.

ok, here's the translation:
he got stopped by the cops, for some bullshit with his number plate( we think the blue sticker should be on the right, not on the left, and not having the insurance tag in the plastic holder). the fine was 170 euros, he says its like 3 days pay. he gets the guy with the camera to follow and record as he goes to confirm that with the cops. they say turn the camera off or they won't talk. he won't. they leave.

its tough with the noise to get any better than that.

The French one hears spoken in Paris, is much different than the language of Provence (The Riviera and Southern France).

Parisienne is much faster and harder to follow than what we all learned in school, which was provincial French.

Thing of a guy from Brooklyn talking to someone from Georgia, for instance.

Good morning sots (rubs eyes and sips tea):

The weather in Hilo is wonderful. No tempests lurking about. I can only fathom what the weather in the City of Angeles is like. I would vote for whomever does not show up to a certain house party in Mount Washington today. (Rubs chin thoughtfully) With all that greenery blowing in the breeze, I wonder if there will be hula dancers, savvy?

We pirates have also heard of Mr. Kleiner. We shall ask him to sail with us for an hour or so for the purposes of determining his fitness as a candidate. We have already had the pleasure of meeting personally with Sir Jesus and he is a right and honourable man he is. The other one, Vladovic, declined our offer and told us to sod off.

And to the pirate amongst pirates, I have high speed internet access here at the Pirates Compound on the Big Island, you big wanker. There are no stunt doubles, only 7 of us to ro-tate the job of being me, six of which are back on the mainland. I have the honour of being me for 7 days, at which time the honour will go to presumably the quartermaster who will be me for seven days. Oh bugger, whose turn is it after the quartermaster has his turn?

My advice to you is to either go sail with the Jolly Roger crew or drive a limousine...which ever is the least expensive.

The Cholo in Antonio and his ACLU came out on Channel 7 newsmakers when he kept saying he was going to bring some intervention prevention gang stuff in the next few weeks. AUDIT THE DAMN programs that are wasting $82 million NOW. Could it be Antonio doesn't want them audited cause we will all find out how unfairly the money is distributed? You Bet. We have to keep the issue of gang programs being audited at the forefront before any more money is given to these hoodlums who run the programs and abusing the money with their families.

Hymon article did not do justice to Bernie's comments. The question posed was " what was his reaction to the War on Gangs as the former Police Chief who was there during Rampart and now a Council member. He said that "no one should declare war on their children and these bangers were all someone's child. Opportunies for employment and education for LA's youth were far more important than punishment.

Intervention should be the priority not war on youth that don't wear the right dress code.

That Rampart came about because officers felt that it was OK to plant evidence& weapons and lie in court to get convictions against people that war was declared against and therefore the enemy and sub-human.

He also felt that ranking the top eleven gangs just gave them swaggering rights in the hood and made them more dangerous and created an incentive for others to make the list. That the list should be made but kept private as a working plan for enforcement.

It was a show of depth and knowledge that one usually does not associate with the CM but on this one he knew what was real and what was for show and it mattered to him.

He said the so called experts were getting it wrong in a major way and no one was calling them on it.
