Friday Open Thread: Deep Pocket Equals Fault
If your head is stuck in the 20th or 19th Century, you probably still think the group responsible for fighting crime on the streets is called "the police."
You are so dumb!
As City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo can tell you, neither the police nor City Hall are responsible for patrolling the streets and arresting criminals. Instead, here is how you determine liability:
Step 1: put a map on the wall.
Step 2: put a red pin in the map to represent the location of the crime in question.
Step 3: put green pins in the map where you have nearby businesses or property owner.
To tell who's responsible for the crime, simply look for the green pin closest to the red pin.
You think I'm kidding? Read the article in the L.A. Timeson how Delgadillo has proudly announced a lawsuit against the owners of a bar, a hotel and a restuarant for their failure -- THEIR failure -- to combat prostitution.
Are people speeding in your neighborhood? Well then, get out there and slow them down? Is the homeless guy on the corner drunk? Well, get out there and take his bottle away, because only YOU can stop public drunkeness? Hey, did you catch a whiff of pot from the guy in the next apartment? Barge in right now and seize it, or you're going not doing your civic duty.
Also, this is your open thread. I'm thinking Sam is having a Time-Warner issue.

Awesome to see that Rockard has adopted a "blame the victim" mentality.
Walter - no thankfully no Time Warner issues, just heading out of town for the weekend. Woo hoo!

thanks Walter, for posting this.
its a Zine initiative I think. making hotel operators into ad hoc deputies for the lapd. making mandatory identification of all hotel room users.
I remember blasting them on this in public comment.
here's my questions:
have they never heard of fake ID's?
how's a Chinese immigrant hotel worker meant to determine validity of an ID? does he risk retaliation by turning in shady characters?
should he be criminalized because he fails to record all required details?
does prostitution return to parked cars on our streets?

And when the pimps, drug dealers or whoever beat the crap out of the business people for daring to interfere with their livlihood, whom should they call? Will Rocky come over and sue someone?
We have police to maintain law and order. Maybe Rocky should do less grandstanding, and divert his staff's time from suing restaurant owners in civil actions to instead prosecuting criminals.

With yet another community attempting to break away from Van Nuys, one has to ask, why?
Wiht the center of government, many new building fronts and the millions spent on revitalization, why do they want to leave?
If you would like to get some answers to your questions, then get ready for a CD6 Candidates Forum in the first week of March. A tentative date is being set today and it will most likely be March 1st.
David Hernandez will be presenting the Forum and welcomes your questions. Unlike other forums, we will not edit your question! I am assembling a panel of community leaders to ask follow up questions of the candidates if they feel your question has not been answered clearly.
You can submit your question to David Hernandez at drhassoc@assoc@earthlink.net.

LA Mayors three prong assault on LAUSD
Focused of obsessed? The Mayor of Los Angeles has place the LAUSD in his sights and is leaving no stone unturned in his attempt to gain control.
His first attempt was the passage of AB1381, the bill cooked up in the back rooms of Sacramento with Union head AJ Duffy and leaders in the assembly and the Governor. The bill was ruled to be in violation of the State Constitution and is bogged down in legal challenges. With a failed attempt to fast track the challenge directly to the State Supreme Court, the Mayor is engaged in plan B.
Plan B involves the March 6, 2007 election. The Mayor and his Committee has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support his candidates for the School Board. The battle is being waged in the form of mass mailings and television commercials. The Ventura Capitalists who supported AB1381 are also involved in the campaign for the Mayors school board candidates.
The plan also includes the reshaping of the boards election process. Restrictions on fundraising for candidates, but little for groups such as the Mayors committee, is only the tip of the battle contained in Measure L.
Measure L, which imposes Term Limits on Board members and establishes a council of Mayors to appoint a Review Committee which will control the pay of board members is being quietly pushed in front of the voters.
One could commend the Mayor for his dedication to his effort, except some, including this writer must ask at what cost?
As we look at the Mayors record over his time in office, it is clear to see, he has neglected his duties as Mayor and it is we the people who have suffered the consequences.
Time to get back to your job Mr. Mayor, we do not expect you to “clean our toilets” but we do demand you clean up our city!

Walter those businesses had been warned over a year ago when Rocky's office got complaints. They had a videotape of an illegal drug sale going down on camera that aired on the news. I say good for Rocky. In the last couple of weeks he's kicked ass out in the public going after gang bangers, scam tow trucks, truants and more. Weiss Ass should be afraid cause with the AM talk shows calling him an idiot he won't have a chance in hell to replace Rocky. All Weiss Ass does is whine like a girl

Matt supports illegals cause he's one of them.
Give Rocky credit for cleaning up that bar that sold drugs, the hotel for prostitution, and other businesses.

Rocky's looking for support to run against Cooley. My guess is that if he does, it is all over for him.
One smells desperation...

When I heard Rocky state that businesses were being targeted for allowing drug deals, I was immediately suspicious.
