Daily News Buys LAUSD Takeover Spin
The drive to elect Mayor Villaraigosa's shadow LAUSD government kicks into high gear. In addition to frequent dispatches to the Sister City staff from the campaign for government lawyer Tamar Galatzan, the Daily News breaks character to support the very type of Downtown power grab they have railed against for years to endorse the Mayor's slate of candidates. Sadly, the Daily News - no friend to the teachers' union which it shares with the Sister City - has taken the position that the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
The Daily News has taken a "toss the bums out" mentality that the eternal problems of the LAUSD can be solved by bringing in yet another team. This is great in theory but particularly with respect to the third district of the Board of Education, should incumbent Jon Lauritzen be defeated, this will make for the fourth member to hold the seat in less than ten years. The voters of the district need more stability than that. The current team may have issues but the problems facing the district goes back decades. Bringing in a slate of candidates backed by the Mayor in order to gain control of the district's billion dollar construction budget is not the be all-end all.

I know I posted this on a thread below. But in case THIS thread gets emailed around to others, here's my comment posted on the Daily News opinion piece on LAUSD:
ZD COMMENT ON DailyNews.com: Is this an editorial/opinion piece, or a news article. [IT WAS UNDER "OPINION" BUT IT SOUNDS GOOD WHEN YOU SAY THAT FIRST!] Here's the scoop on the mayor's attempted hijacking of LAUSD school board.
LAUSD is building new schools. There is over $20 billion in construction budget money over the next six years. So, Eli Broad sent Antonino out to take control of the school board, so he can hand out the construction contracts to his short list of preferred contractors. This allows them to drive up the cost of these projects by "adding on" extras at $250,000 a time. Under AB 1381, anything under $250,000 doesn't have to be approved, or even reported! And that's how you hijack the money, with all these $249,999.99 "add ons" -- without having to tell anyone -- and Eli's homies get to pocket a little "something-something" for theyselves.
Now, Tamara Galatzan: Admitidley, she has ZERO educational experience. Most people interested in a career at LAUSD have dedicated their college education, careers and lives to kids and education. And her big claim to fame (in her mailers) is that she has her first kid starting LAUSD in the fall. EXCUSE ME...If you think having a kid STARTING LAUSD qualifies you as a boardmemeber -- then let's at least pick a parerent who ALREADY has/had kids in LAUSD. At least they would have experience as a parent of a school kid. Tamar doesn't even have that?
I don't get it. A procecutor all of the sudden want to be an LAUSD boardmember. Her husband is a lobbyist and president of powerful Valley buisness association (VICCA). And this is about everyone scratching each others back -- paving the way for Antonio to slide Galatzan in the first available City Council seat. THAT'S RIGHT...THIS IS ABOUT ANTONIO WANTING TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE SCHOOL BOARD SO HE CAN TAKE CONTROL OF THE KID'S CONSTRUCTION MONEY AND PUT HIS FRIEND TAMAR GALATZAN IN A CITY COUNCIL SEAT ASAP AS PAYBACK FOR THE FAVOR OF HANDING HIM THE CONSTRUCTION BUDGET AND CONTROL OF THE SCHOOLS. Don't be fooled by the mayor's phony photo-op grin. You know who else has a winning smile? (Church Lady Voice):SATAN!

Oh no...is this true about Boi from Troy sticking up for toxic waste dumps and Tamar Galatzan?
Scott's (aka "Boi from Troy") company has a contract with the VICA/VEDC Valley
business/government complex out here.
VICA! Huh..huh...huh....they're the one's supporting expansion of the toxicisity that sits on top of the water supply and near school and Galatzan's husband is the President -- AND Boi from Troy says he has a close personal relationship with Huffman (VICA President/Galatzan Soulmate.)
Does anyone have more info on Sunshine Canyon. All this miminmizing talk about it, makes me want to follow up for a possibly bigger story. Send info to zumadogg@netzero.com. Thanks.

I've got one word for all of you: Pugliese!
He's the ONLY candidate who lets you vote neither for the failed status quo nor the Mayor's pawn.
Sure, maybe he won't win, but at least YOU won't have contributed to the problem by voting for the lesser of two evils -- thereby ensuring the victory of evil.
Send a message to special interests, and to honest people considering running for office. Tell them you will vote for the best candidate, period. The more votes they get, the more the other forces in this city will have to pay attention.
Or you can just piss and moan, and whine about throwing your vote away, and nothing in this town will ever change for the better. You've already tried that, though, and look what we've got.

What the "MOLDING GREEN SHEET" does not see is that their are two factions that are vying for control of UTLA. One is the "UTLA POTIBURO" led by "PUFF DUFFY" and the other "FARRRRRRRRR LEFT" wackos who have ties to "HIS POLLONESS" from the days when he was an organizer for the union. Second, is the "RANK AND FILE" teachers who are in a state of rebellon with the leadership of "PUFF DUFFY" over the sellout to "HIS POLLONESS" on AB 1381. If the "MOLDING GREEN SHEET" would open their eyes, they would side with they "MAJORITY" of the UTLA membership who are the ones fighting to maintain the Autonomus status of the school district. After this election, then we can take on the issues of "BREAKING UP THE DISTRICT". But worse wsould be "HIS POLLONESS" controling LAUSD.

Mayor Sammy,
Let me count the ways you are wrong here my friend.
You are either ignorant to the facts or you are just plain dumb, i prefer to believe you are just ignorant.
First off, let's just get this out of the way - Louise Pugliese is going to lose, for all the walter moore shouting to the contrary it isn't going to happen, sorry.
As for Lauritzen -- Sam -- you do know that he isn't actually running the district. He isn't actually in charge of his vote. He isn't actually forming and stating an opinion that is his own.
If you are a LAUSD vendor or union ally you go and talk to Ed Burke. He runs the seat, Jon is a joke to all his other colleagues on the board--he speaks but no one listens.
But of course we should have someone like that helping form education policy.
As for Tamar -- you got it wrong Sam, she is a Neighborhood prosecutor and you purposefully typed it to mislead.
And I can’t believe you have succumb to the UFO's are coming crowd, in that this is in somehow a way to control the construction budget, and your evidence is to link to a Zuma Dogg post titled "twilight zone."
You do understand Zuma has no evidence, facts, documentation, witnesses or anything like that to make this point. But because you've turned your website into the "everything against the mayor" you have lost your perspective.
When Antonio Watch, Walter Moore, Jim Alger, Greg Nelson, Zuma Dogg and David Hernandez are your sources for news -- you can bet it’s totally going to be objective and factually correct.
Antonio Watch - a former lowly and lonely political hack with no political home anymore.
Walter Moore - A former lowly and re-married by an Elvis impersonator political candidate with no political party anymore.
Jim Alger - A former losing candidate who lost to a democrat who didn’t campaign -- who has no political base anymore.
Greg Nelson - A former City staffer who was fired (wait umm, he was actually not fired, ok why lie, he was fired) for incompetence who has no city job anymore.
Zuma Dogg-- just has no home.
David Hernandez - A self described do-gooder who has lost literally every single political battle and campaign he has waged, a man with no moral compass except to find the right media vacuum to get HIS NAME out there. His home is with the wing-nuts and angry people who are upset, they don't know why, but I suspect they are mad because the sun is out today.
Just thought I’d help clear the air of all the pollution your site has spewed.
:)
p.s. difference between the words i write and everything else on this blog, i am factually correct.

Mayor Sammy,

Is this fuzzy math my friend?
You are either ignorant to the facts or you are just plain dumb, i prefer to believe you are just ignorant.
Or I don’t believe the spin.
First off, let's just get this out of the way - Louise Pugliese is going to lose, for all the walter moore shouting to the contrary it isn't going to happen, sorry.
You’re probably right. Walter is advocating for Louis on his own. This old dead Republican mayor has not yet announced who he is supporting.
As for Lauritzen -- Sam -- you do know that he isn't actually running the district. He isn't actually in charge of his vote. He isn't actually forming and stating an opinion that is his own.
So then replacing him with Galatzan will be no change?
If you are a LAUSD vendor or union ally you go and talk to Ed Burke. He runs the seat, Jon is a joke to all his other colleagues on the board--he speaks but no one listens.
So we replace Ed Burke with Eli Broad? Well at least they have the same initials.
But of course we should have someone like that helping form education policy.
And who do I want doing that? A teacher or a government lawyer? Or a Mayor? Or a guy who owns TV stations? Hmmm, have to think on that one.
As for Tamar -- you got it wrong Sam, she is a Neighborhood prosecutor and you purposefully typed it to mislead.
No, I don’t think so. Far as I know Tamar is a lawyer who works for the government. Neighborhood prosecutor is just a fancy title made up to make people think the government is doing something for them. Who’s the real spin doctor here?
And I can’t believe you have succumb to the UFO's are coming crowd, in that this is in somehow a way to control the construction budget, and your evidence is to link to a Zuma Dogg post titled "twilight zone."
Nice red herring but anyone with a brain knows to follow the money. LAUSD was never a prize plumb for Mayors until they started building schools again for the first time in 30 years. Between that and transit spending, the last 10 years have been a bigger bonanza for contractors compared to the 30, 40, 50 years before that.
You do understand Zuma has no evidence, facts, documentation, witnesses or anything like that to make this point. But because you've turned your website into the "everything against the mayor" you have lost your perspective.
Uh, no actually Zuma has come out with quite a bit of evidence, facts, documentation, etc. I doubt his phone would be ringing off the hook as much as it does with calls from the 3rd and 4th floors. Perhaps if the mayor did more of some good things we liked he’d get more brownie points. But we have complimented the mayor on his good ideas (such as putting wi-fi on buses and trains).
When Antonio Watch, Walter Moore, Jim Alger, Greg Nelson, Zuma Dogg and David Hernandez are your sources for news -- you can bet it’s totally going to be objective and factually correct.
As opposed to Michael Trujillo (sorry Mike) and the rest? If you knew what you were talking about you’d be surprised to know some of our sources.
Antonio Watch - a former lowly and lonely political hack with no political home anymore.
Has he been drummed out of La Cosa Villaraigosa?
Walter Moore - A former lowly and re-married by an Elvis impersonator political candidate with no political party anymore.
What does his marital status or his wedding have to do with anything? That’s a low blow. And Walter isn’t the only one who’s without a party anymore. At least for Republicans in LA, we really don’t have a party anymore. Irrelevant to what he has to say.
Jim Alger - A former losing candidate who lost to a democrat who didn’t campaign -- who has no political base anymore.
Who came within inches of winning despite being massively outspent and having the entire party apparatus working against him. (Because his win would have blown a lot of deals for a lot of people).
Greg Nelson - A former City staffer who was fired (wait umm, he was actually not fired, ok why lie, he was fired) for incompetence who has no city job anymore.
Oh boy! One of the finest public servants the city has ever had who is managing to make a living NOT on the government dime anymore. But again, irrelevant to anything the guy has to say.
Zuma Dogg-- just has no home.
That’s actually not the case but again completely unconnected to the positions he has taken and the information he has.
That’s a wonderful thing to say about a decorated combat veteran of the United States military who quite frankly would be personally better off if he did not give his time to the community. If he knew who you are he should probably kick your ass. David has taken up causes that may not be politically correct with the elites of LA but he does what he believes in and what he believes in is the core values of a lot of people out there. Perhaps not the core beliefs of brie and Chablis consumers like Tamar Galatzan, Richard Riordan and Eli Broad but the hard working folks of all colors who make this country happen every day. Your comments about David are offensive to me and show your ignorance because you do not know the man.
Just thought I’d help clear the air of all the pollution your site has spewed.
The only pollution being spewed is from the toxic waste dumps your school board candidate, her husband and their friends support which is easy to do when you live south of the boulevard. Perhaps you should ask Kim Thompson and the folks around Sunshine Canyon about real pollution.
p.s. the difference between this blog and what i write, i am factually corect.
No you are not, as we have just proven. And its “correct” not “correct.” Have a wonderful day and keep blogging away dum dum.

Ah! I suspected as much but you know the last thing I would want to do it out you my friend!
I would just make sure you don't run into David Hernandez. He won't beat you up and I do not advocate he do, but you said some pretty unfair things about him.
Is that the "Christian" way Mike? What would Pastor Stiles have said about that? I'm curious.

One last thing Mike - I don't really think you're a dum dum but its fun to use your own phrase against you! :)

Sorry Sam,
I was debating you, not the other guy.
As for Eli Broad i know Eli Broad, he is not for global or district domination.
He actually could care less.

Mr Sam -- please provide the contractor who has received a contract from the district because of Mr Riordan?
Mayor Sam -- do you not recall the candidates you supported for school board when you were mayor?
In fact, it was during your tenure that A. You endorsed 5 candidates (that won) and B. The district grew up 17% and buidings were constructed by an increase of 21%. Much larger then in terms of building than today, but you already knew this right Mayor??
Mayor Sam -- you yourself controlled a majority of the board while a major contruction phase was occurring but like the other mayors, you will 0 contractors that you helped get LAUSD contruction work.

NO HE HAS NOT!!!!!
He always says stuff, but has yet to back any of it with facts that can be verified.

I'm not sure which former lowly and lonely political hack with no political home anymore you've confused me with, but I've never worked in politics.
The closest I've come to working in politics was volunteering some free time for Jim Hahn's anti-secession campaign in '02 because I cared about keeping the city together.
Working in politics is my worst nightmare. I'm just a guy with an opinion and I intend to keep it that way.

The land mine they risk in disputing the school construction claims is that there is a paper trail that Mayor Sam and Zuma will get a hold of. You don't want that on KABC do you?
Does Galatzan know the bush league team she has that they are playing on the blogs again?

This old dead Republican Mayor owes Mike Trujillo an apology. I had misread a post and thought he was the one who - among other things - was slamming David Hernandez. I called him on it and since he didn't write it my comments directed toward him don't really apply any longer.
Mike did tell me who wrote the post but I am not going to out that person. I see no need. I'm just hoping these guys can respond to us on the issues not with personal attacks or red herrings.
