Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Tuesday

Rick Orlov writing in the Daily News reviews the trials and tribulations of Mayor Villaraigosa in 2006. Bottom line - after a gushy honeymoon upon taking office the welcome began to wear thin - Orlov says "Villaraigosa's frenetic public pace and wide-ranging reforms - including raising wages, hiking trash fees and hiring more cops - have begun to prickle critics who say the mayor must start turning promises into actions." Local pundits would like to see the Mayor spend 2007 spending more time on fewer issues including the shaky local economy.

Click here to read the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment's response to an audit of the department by the City Controller. (Scroll down to the "download" button to open up the document.)

With the new year comes new laws that take effect as of today (mostly). Among the legislative changes are a higher minimum wage, a law that allows gay and/or unmarried senior citizen couples to file join tax returns and legislation that mandates that bags of cat litter sold in the state must include a message asking people not to dispose of the litter in toilets, gutters or storm drains. One law passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor that will not be taking effect: Mayor Villaraigosa's LAUSD takeover plan which was ruled unconstitutional by the courts.

Martini Republic opted for reruns of Seinfeld over KTLA's coverage of the Tournament of Roses parade. Why? Because of the shabby treatement of legendary parade host Stephanie Edwards. Edwards a broadcasting legend was shunted to the streets last year and wasn't even included this year with the station preferring the younger host of their daily morning program, Michaela Pereira. One thing I discovered this year - a great tool for watching the parade is my Time Warner Cable Moxi (similar to a TiVo) . Skip past the horses and bands and just look at the floats. Wonderful!

LA still doesn't have a grand new year's eve celebration like that of Times Square in New York. We had a really lame millenium celebration in 2000 and perhaps we're still smarting from that. And for those of you downtown boosters who think LA Live is going to be the West Coast's version of Times Square put down your vodka - it's not the same thing. However, LA's network of local neighborhoods continue to do their own thing: Here in Van Nuys has the story of a grand old new year's eve celebration in Lake Balboa. (By the way, it was the same thing one year ago today.)

A boy born two minutes after midnight on New Year's Day at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in West Los Angeles might have been the first baby born in Los Angeles County in 2007 Orlander Wyatt Jr., weighed in at 6 pounds and 5 ounces. What may be the county's first twins of 2007 were born at 7:53 a.m. and 8:06 a.m. Monday morning at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Panorama City according to a hospital spokesperson.

Happy New Year...fellow Americans, voters and taxpayers!

We are winning the battle of LA! It only took a little over a year for everyone else to realize they made a huge mistake if they voted for Vivalaraza!

The Great Dictator(you can spell that any way you so choose) is really getting bitch slapped by that wonderful female Judge Janovs! Wow!!! First the LAUSD rejection...and not the probably defeat of Prop "R"!!!

And how about LAX hotel worker slap down!

Our illustrious Major Domo is on his way out!!! We have had it!

We have a project for 2007...the so-called communist manifesto titled "The Declaration of Los Angeles"! Let's send a message to Mecha Boy and his merry band of Mechistas that we are sick and tired of their corruption. WE WILL NOT TOLERATE ANTI-AMERICAN RECONQUISTAS IN OUR CITY!!!

We have an election coming up this year....let's show these traitors who this city belongs to!!! They work for us and we need to fire ALL of them...Sacramento included.

2007 will be the year of the great depression in LA! Housing prices are tanking and the will collapse. Foreclosures are at a 40 year high...mostly from the fraudulent illegal market. Illegals just pack up and leave in the middle of the nite, change their names, and get new ID's. Then they start the scams all over again!

I work for a major national real estate co. and I can tell you first hand that it's worse than anything you read in the paper.

LA is finished! Tony Villar, Eli Broad and their partners in crime are rushing the clock to line their personal pockets and Villar's campaign coffers BEFORE the crash. They are depending on the illegals to do all the purchasing. Mexico is now earmarking all the money for matricular cards from the 47 mexican consulates in the US for ILLEGALS to purchase homes in the US. The money used to go to Mexico but now it's going to help the illegals put a down payment on homes in the US.

We need the economy to tank in CA., otherwise the illegals will never go home. When they can't find a job or afford to live here...they will go back to Mexico where they belong. And then we can lock the door.

The schools will be bankrupt, the real estate mkt. will tank, and big business is moving out of LA.

Happy New Year!

From the very excellent Rick Orlov's LA Daily News article. (www.DailyNews.com)

"Ultimately, Kotkin believes Villaraigosa's political future depends on the local economy - particularly PROPERTY VALUES - as much as any other factor.

"As long as the economy is humming along, he will do fine," Kotkin said. "But I think there are storm clouds out there. As a city, Los Angeles is not doing as well as some of its neighbors.

"As long as he keeps the PROPERTY VALUES up, he will be able to continue to do things."

Ah ha...Now ZD sees the bigger picture as to why the mayor and city council have been running a condo-conversion scheme throughout L.A. (See ZD Happy New Year story below.)

So mayor's number one goal is to keep property values up...and you do that through condo-conversions, even if not necessary. But at what cost to the cultural and socio-economic balance of the community.

So, ZD's question to the smart people who read Mayor Sam (and spin ZD)...Is it the job of the mayor (tony or the next one) to simply look at property values as the single focus of the City, at all other costs? If someone can sell me on that one...ZD's #1 issue gets seriously diffused...

Fellow Bloggers,

Wish you Happy New Year. So May 17th, will be a date forever embedded in my life, as that was the day that I got to witness a progressive change in Los Angeles that has already begun to send waves throughout the country. I got to witness a movement that had begun many years ago, lead by many people and organizations, towards the ultimate goal of knowing and believing that this great country in which we live in holds true to the principle that we're all created equal. I got to witness Antonio Villaraigosa be elected the new Mayor of Los Angeles... and I can go on from this point knowing that I played a role in that taking place.

However important that victory may be for the Latino community in the United States, I'd prefer to see it as a milestone within this country in the universal struggle for promoting the belief that we can all achieve our goals, that the only obstacles that prevent us from succeeding in life are those that we place on ourselves. Knowing the struggles that my parents had to make in order for me to have the education and the experiences that I have today, I can take further joy from the fact that my nephew can become the Mayor of Los Angeles, or Governor, or President, or anything that he wants to be.

I've talked to some people who have been on this Earth for many years, and they all remember historic moments that they witnessed. Whether it was being in Washington DC for the "I have a dream" speech or seeing on television Neil Armstrong take the first steps of many on our moon, they all say that those are moments in the lives which will never leave them. For me, this is my moment in time.

Now the real work begins, and I'm proud to say that I am there to get it started.

First, let me extend my condolences to you for having a so-called "nephew", Tony Villar.

FYI, is is a lying, cheating, scumbag. A "pig with earrings". The emporer with no clothes!

He is anti-American and un-American. He is a Raza, Mechista, gangbanger, 1.4 gpa dope! You can take the man out of Boyle Heights, but you can't take Boyle Heights out of the man. He is scum!

The only "WAVES" being sent thru this city are SHOCK WAVES! Finally, LA Taxpayers are waking up to the fact that they have been screwed royally!

The "MOVEMENT" that you personally "got to witness" was the movement of millions of illegal, itinerant, illiterate, criminal, lawless, illegal aliens breaking into our country. The "movement" you "witnessed" was the third world underclass of Mexico invadinig the US> Mexico doesn't want them and neither do we. These mestizos are your "nephew's" loyal subjects...not American citizens. We Americans want your "nephew" and his amigos out of our country.

My New Year's prediction for you and your "nephew" is that there will be a huge 'MOVEMENT' year to get rid of your nephew and his Mexican mafia!!!

Happy New Year...creepo!

Good morning ladies and gentlemen (removes hat and bows low):

Today is a national day of mourning, if you will, but many of you can't decide if you are mourning the year to come or the president that passed.

Seems to me we've started out on the right track with some buggers already forced to walk the plank courtesy of the local magistrate. However, methinks that many of you in City Hall who threw away your desk calendars with names, dates and locations will hasten the plank for many. I would caution those who have yet to throw away their day-runners to shred them instead, as pirates are in your midst, savvy? But for those of you who failed to do so, take comfort in knowing that your secrets are safe with us pirates.

(Turns head sharply to left)
What say you? No secrets are safe with pirates? Only dead men tell no tales? We shall see, sirrah. We shall see indeed. What does not bode well for one clowncil member does not bode well for all, savvy?

To quote another famous bard "Strapped to a chair and the bomb is ticking. The situation was not of your picking. You say that this wasn't in your plan? Then don't mess around with the demolition man."

Yes, we shall see indeed.

Working with federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents, more than 400 police officers from throughout the Inland region served 43 search warrants on suspected Mexican Mafia and gang members early Tuesday.

They seized 56 guns, about $1 million worth of methamphetamine and nearly that much in cash, while also making 19 arrests. Among those booked were two brothers dubbed "shot callers" in the Mexican Mafia, and six others from the organization's top, officials said.

"I'm not just talking about the low-level gang members dealing drugs on the corner," said San Bernardino County District Attorney Michael Ramos. "I'm talking about the hierarchy."

Suspected leaders Salvador Hernandez, 42, and his 38-year-old brother, Alfred, both of San Bernardino, were booked at West Valley Detention Center on criminal conspiracy charges.

Other people suspected of being involved in the organization -- including one arrested on the San Manuel Indian Reservation -- were booked on mostly drugs- and weapons-related charges, said Lt. Mark Garcia of the San Bernardino Police Department.

They include: Arturo Ortiz, 30; Geahetta Amaya, 48; Erlindo Honesto Jr., 30; Stacy Barajas, 24; and her brother, Eric Barajas, 34, who was arrested on the reservation.

Yet scribes such as the holier than thou "KIM IL RUTTEN" is more concern with the likes of Murdock and Limbaugh, than take issue whether his fellow scribes are reporting the "TRUTH" on the character of our local political leaders. To be objective, Greg Rodriguez did have a eye opening article on the whenning influence of the "LEFT" on news coverage in the "PRINT MEDIA". On "HIS POLLONESS", I have witness first hand the "enbellishment" of POLLORAIGOSA. There are many people in "Northern Boyle Heights" who will tell you the truth about "TONY". Why hasn't Laura Chick N Shit audited all the gang programs especially because Connie Rice came out and reported $82 mil is being wasted on them?

Villaraigosa has decisively rejected ANY possibility of addressing the out of control gang problem by citywide injunctions, or deporting gang members, or pushing for Mexico to extradite criminals, or push for more police, or much of anything. He's in the pocket of both felons with wealthy fathers and the ACLU, which prefers the rights of organized criminals to gather than the right of ordinary people in gang infested areas not to be shot. Antonio's personal history of carrying water for politically influential felons, softness on drug traffickers or child murderers guarantees an out of control crime rate. If anything his long history of penny ante corruption (the Florida Gift Shop scandal) shows that he can be bought cheaply.

Other polticians are crooks too, but at least they require serious money like Eli Broad or other connected developers. Since these guys require a crime rate under control for things like Staples Center to make money, others can be expected to at least react to crime waves which are already gathering force. Villaraigosa won't even do THAT.

People are keeping their kids home from LA schools because of Black/Latino riots. Gangs are killing fourteen year olds who refuse to join with impunity. MS-13 rules Pico-Union. Violence is spreading and it won't be contained just in poor areas, Westwood, Downtown, Venice/Santa Monica, Hollywood, Culver City, and the Valley/North Hollywood will see it's share of innocent people killed by gangs if Villaraigosa is elected.

Villaraigosa has made it clear his number 1 priority is spoils politics and helping his Westside Liberal ACLU backers over crime control. "Hug a thug" hasn't worked, and all it will take for the city to further slide down the tubes economically is for the perception that it's a war zone to take hold (that perception is the truth in South Central, East LA, parts of Venice, Westlake, Pico-Union, and other areas).

Villaraigosa is a disaster waiting to happen.

The day after he announced the plan, Hahn told reporters that Villaraigosa "took the side of the gang members" in a 1992 lawsuit that challenged a law banning gangs from a San Fernando city park. Villaraigosa was the sole plaintiff in the suit, which raised civil liberties issues similar to those raised in gang injunction cases.

At the time, Villaraigosa was vice president of the Southern California chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, which has challenged a number of California gang injunctions and remains one of the chief critics of the tactic.

Gang members engage in drive-by shootings, murder, murder for hire, rape, extortion, arms trafficking, carjacking, and auto theft. The gang maintains an arsenal of automatic weapons including Tech 9s, Mac 10s, Mac 11s, and AK-47s. Many of these weapons are used to protect the gang's top activity - international drug trafficking. Al Valdez, a Southern California district attorney investigator, says: "Intelligence indicates that 18th Street has established ties with the Mexican and Colombian drug cartels, which has impacted the Southwest border states in particular. Because of the large amount of drugs which 18th Street distributes and sells, the gang also has ties to the Mexican Mafia prison gang and many black street gangs."

Lie #4: Most illegal aliens come here only to seek work and are law-abiding "citizens".
Truth: In Los Angeles, as of January, 2004, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide (which total 1,200 to 1,500) target illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) are for illegal aliens. A confidential California Department of Justice study reported in 1995 that 60 percent of the 20,000-strong 18th Street Gang in southern California is illegal; police officers say the proportion is actually much greater. The bloody gang collaborates with the Mexican Mafia, the dominant force in California prisons, on complex drug-distribution schemes, extortion, and drive-by assassinations, and commits an assault or robbery every day in L.A. County. The gang has grown dramatically over the last two decades by recruiting recently arrived youngsters, most of them illegal, from Central America and Mexico. Seven members of the Barrio Aztecas prison gang were indicted for capital murder in connection with the jail slaying of a Mexican Mafia prison gang member. The prison officer said Porras and Romero have been in the state prison system. Porras is on parole after being sent to prison for six years for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and Romero was sent to prison under shock probation for 180 days for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was released last year. The intelligence officer said prison authorities haven't identified Porras and Romero as prison gang members. The Mexican Mafia and Aztecas are two of several prison gangs whose members are allegedly involved in drug trafficking, contract hits, aggravated robberies, prostitution, murders and other crimes inside and outside the prison walls. While in prison, Miller said Franco was convicted of carrying a deadly weapon in prison.

As we begin this New Year, we at the Legal Challenge Team promise you an exciting year.

Just to recap the progress of the legal challenge to Prop R. here is the timeline for the events which have taken place since the election and Mr. Donner filing his request for Dismissal.

November 23, 2006 Neil Donner formally withdraws and files Dismissal.

December 11, 2006- - only 18 days later, with research completed and documents prepared, Hernandez & Hayes file Verified Petition for Writ of Mandate, case number BS106456.

December 12, 2006 City Council served via City Attorney.

Judge Dzintra Janavs assigned to case.

Following court guidelines which require a minimum of fourteen “court days” to set hearing- - date set for January 25, 2007.

It may seem like a life time since we began our effort, but it has only been 40 days since Mr. Donner withdrew from the case.

With Christmas and New Years thrown in, time goes by fast.

So, keep the faith and we will continue to work daily on securing the resources needed to see this legal challenge to its conclusion.

Our Victory Party is being planned for Saturday January 27, 2007. So save the date!

(capt'n crunch translation) City Hall wants you out!
Thanks for the translation (that's what i'm talking about.) I'm kinda surprised to hear City Hall wants me out. They appear to be my friends in Chambers. I thought they liked me (even though their hangers- on spin me here). Man, if it's true they want ZD to move to Ventura County, like I want to...some of the Councilmembers I am close with, should just aks me. (I thought they actually got a kick out of it, except for Jan and Wendy.) Maybe I can put one or two of them down on a resume to help me get a full-time job that would keep me out of City Hall. (It's true...I have too much time on my hands since they banned me from selling shirts on Venice Beach.)

And 2:21,

Decode:

Big News coming your way. Use news and other ammunition to combat city hall corruption. Are you ready?

ZD SAYS: Oh no..this means everything I've heard is true! I don't think 2:21pm is the person I spoke with, myself, about possible "special elections" when certain Councilmembers are forced to vacate their district and constituents.

I TOLD ALL OF Y'ALL YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SO GREEDY...IT'S AN OBSESSIVE COMPULSION...AND NOW LOOK AT YOU. I HOPE CPT. JACK AND OTHERS ARE WRONG AND THEIR WON'T BE ANY INDITEMENTS OVER "SANITATION" ISSUES. I HOPE SOMEONE IS TELLING THE SAME BAD RUMOR BECAUSE: At this point I think I should mention about ZD:

I'm not actually concerned with de-throwning Councilmembers or having anyone brought up on charges or lose their job or anything like that.

That may surprise you, but here's why...Politicians are politicians. And that means shady and corrupt, for the most part, no matter who is sitting in the chair. Remember the Who song, "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." You could replace Garcetti, but the next guy will be just as bad, if not worse. SO ALL ZD HAS BEEN TRYING TO DO IS LET 'EM KNOW, THE PEOPLE ARE ON TO YOU IN THIS NEW YOUTUBE/MYSPACE ERA, AND YOU'RE SCREWED. And ZD knows if you took all the "fudge factor" out the process the City would come to a halt, in reality. BUT YOU GOTTA CUT BACK ON THE GREED.

You've been getting away with it all, completley unchecked and balanced...and you can no longer see the forest from the trees. You're on an obsessive compulsive money-grabbing rampage. It's a lot of negative energy to be carrying around. So to summarize, ZD doesn't want to see anyone de-throwned or locked-up...

Just cut back on the greed, cut the community in for a piece (like don't waive taxes for developers and use the money to build real affordable housing for the middle-class.) AND START NOW...AND STOP THE BRIDGE FROM BURNING BEHIND YOU AND LET ZD GO BACK TO NEVER GOING DOWNTOWN BECAUSE IT SUCKS.

All these programs had one thing in common. They were all being run by "reformed" criminals. The most notorious of these was Get Going located on 127 South Utah Street in Boyle Heights, just a few blocks from Hollenbeck station. Get Going was founded by Michael Delia, a convicted bank robber and associate of Jimmy "The Weasel" Fratianno and Jimmy Coppola, both Cosa Nostra operators. Delia was also an associate of several high ranking brothers. Get Going's most visible and vocal supporter was State Senator Alex P. Garcia. Garcia ran interference for Delia and greased the rails to get Delia government funding.

EXCERPT FROM: Cardenas faces four hopefuls in contest Three challengers from area panel
BY KERRY CAVANAUGH, Staff Writer
LA Daily News (www.dailynews.com)

In an unusual match-up, Los Angeles City Councilman Tony Cardenas will face four challengers, including three candidates from the Van Nuys Neighborhood Council, in the March 6 election.

Friends and fellow neighborhood council members Lisa Martellaro-Palmer, James Cordaro and Candido Marez have all qualified for the ballot. Probation Officer Eric Dwight Rothenay of Arleta is also in the race.

Though they didn't plan to enter the race together, Cordaro and Marez said they hope the Van Nuys activists can pull enough votes to force a runoff with incumbent Cardenas.

While it's not the first time neighborhood council activists have campaigned against City Council incumbents, it is rare to have three candidates from one panel in a single race.

"This will be a history-making event if the neighborhood councils unify and support members within a neighborhood council program," Cordaro said.

"In the event a neighborhood council member is able to knock off an incumbent City Council member, it will turn the (City Council) upside down. It will make the rest of City Council members pay attention and listen to neighborhood councils."

Challengers say Cardenas hasn't frequented community events or neighborhood council meetings, and is slow to deal with day-to-day quality-of-life issues like speed bumps or trash bins.

"People feel neglected," said Martellaro-Palmer, who is an engineer and first-time candidate.

"Right now, a lot of decisions are made without neighborhood councils, without community members and then the community has to accept them."

For MEAT or should I say MEATHEAD?

Healthy Families –

Should I believe MEAT or Martha Escutia in the LA Times telling everyone how Antonio took this issue from her. I choose Escutia over MEAT. Look it up yourself MEAT.

Killings –

Fact, killings are up. Fact, AV campaign harped on too many killings and he would reduce them. End result, failure on this issue.

AV’s support for Measure A was a political ploy to increase his profile and try to get closer to police and run away from his ACLU roots. MEAT may be more informed, but we’re not stupid. We see right through AV’s tactics (right before he ran for council in 2002 he did the same by doing Measure B political mailings ONLY in CD 14).

Empowering Constituents -

Even if you believe MEAT about the neighborhood watch groups (which I don’t) they don’t compare to TRAINING constituents and recognizing them in Council for spending 8 weeks to develop skills and introducing them to department managers and heads of units within the department.

El Sereno Constituent Center -

The El Sereno Constitutent Center already had $2 million in MICLA resources for land acquisition and construction of a new building the minute AV took office (Pacheco did this). MEAT can look up what MICLA means on his time. Good try, though.

Closing down bars -

The City Attorney closes downs the bars through the Neighborhood Prosecutor Program, that I believe Pacheco pushed through the council. Another good try.

Gold line –

MEAT misses the point again. Maybe he should be called MEATHEAD. This does not answer the question regarding the $ millions AV got for two CBOs while Speaker and nothing for the groups on the Eastside. Can anyone name a specific million-dollar gift to any Eastside group from AV, like the ones given to Disney Hall and the Museum of Tolerance?

Defense of Pacheco –

Good try to make this about Pacheco. It’s a comparison because he is the one that AV knocked out of office. It’s his work product that AV attacked and NOW we can actually compare them as councilmembers. Not a defense, MEATHEAD. Also, you have nothing on Pacheco, so you resort to calling him shady. It's been years since those allegations came up and nothing. Why? Because there was nothing to them but political opponents throwing mud. AV has one the shadiest background if you read the LA Times Sunday Magazine profile on him and we really don’t want to get into that, do we?

Meat read this article in Boulevard Sentinel about the SKATE PARK. http://losangeles.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.boulevardsentinel.com%2F

It clearly states from a community activist that Antonio hasn't attended any damn meetings. It's amazing Meat that you would out right LIE to protect your little boss. No one would lie and be so defensive about a person unless they had something to gain.

FROM MEAT:

I MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT BE Ulisses -- i do not work for the councilman, i do not collect a paycheck from anything the councilman does -- you can either believe the truth or the random lies you make up.

As for the article, big whooped deedoo -- that was one meeting, as i clearly stated Antonio had either one or two, i don't know cause i don't work for him dum-dum. Just because you weren't there eating the free cookies doesn't mean there wasn't a mtg dum-dum.

There are mtgs that occur without your knowledge sometimes dum-dum.

As for the stuff about LudLow -- i like ludlow, i worked on his campaign (i do not collect a paycheck from mr ludlow either) but i will say this, anyone that thinks this strike was settled because of only mr ludlows work is sorely wrong. As for me not mentioning him, i was merely pointing out what the LA Times wrote about the strike settlement and how THIS DUM DUM MAYOR had nothing to do with it.

As for the other mayoral campaigns trying to figure out who i am, let them -- they should be trying to trick...i mean convince voters their guy is number one, as opposed to wasting time on me. But if they ever open their fridge and see some cold cuts, they can rest assure that i am listening.

i am just too good for you dum dums to figure out.

blog away.

I really thought MEAT was simply a poltical junkie. But now it's clear he is spinning for Antonio. MEAT said a long time ago that he got his information from the newspapers and some well placed calls. It's quite clear that he has been intentionally misleading us all this time and now I do believe he works for Antonio after all. What a fraud!

ULYSESS I mean MEAT I personally know people in the group about the skatepark. Antonio has ignored them for months. He sends his flaks who aren't worth a shit and everyone in CD14 knows it. This is typical of people wanting to have a discussion with Tony and he's afraid of the confrontation so he just doesn't show up. You can blame the other mayoral candidates field people who are spreading the rumor Ulysesses. They have worked with you in the past and know you well but it's ok if you are in denial. I would be to if I worked for Tony. Meat you gave yourself away by being over the top protective and defensive to the point that some of your comments are obviously not taken out of newspapers and could only be known by a Tony staffer. Good try....we busted you.

FROM MEAT:

Ok buddy, i am not who you think i am.

The other mayoral staffers are hacks without any passion for the job....as for other campaigns claiming they know who i am -- ha!!!!!

Look if you wanted to know who i am -- then you only need to look at the 7th row in tonights debate at LACMA -- i was dead center 7th row -- and i was wearing a yellow shirt with a hat.

And to be clear -- Ulysses was not at the debate, i asked 4 people, just so there wouldn't be any confusion.

dum-dums -- go ahead and blog away.

3) Was your prom a night to remember?
Prom was funny, crazy, and definitely memorable. Having had a large group, the limo took forever to make the turns by my house to pick us all up. We partied it up, went to the beach after prom, got drunk, dropped everybody off, got some grub at al Gallo Giro, and then ended the night with Stuart, Victor and I taking a group pic at the Dorothy Chandler like at 6 am. And to think, I just got back from partying with them at Moose's. Hermanos por vida...

What kind of people did you hang out with?
Damn, it all started with Stuart, Victor, Omar, Robert, Dan, Walter, and a few other peeps. As the years passed, it began to include Luis (aka - Krusty), Jose, Tino, Mario, Arnold, Jerry, and a few other heads. Senior year, it was Gilbert, Jose, Stuart, and the gals (while still keeping it real with "La Pandilla" during nutrition). During Junior and Senior years, I would walk with Maria to and from school because she lived on the way to school. Ahhhhh, best of times, worst of times...

Your BEST memories:
I'd have to say that it was the day we had the Senior Picnic afterschool, and right before Grad Night when La Pandilla took a group pic (yes, I still have it). It's an extension of high school, but last year at Ms Berges' retirement party (yeah, she left), I bought a round of beers for Chacon, Caceres, and myself. That was truly memorable.

Where did you graduate from and what year?
The Francisco Bravo Medical Magnet Senior High School. Don't playa hate, it was all about '98!

Crime Dips, big announcement.

Truth:

"Gang crime, however, was the "glaring exception," Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said. More than half of the 478 homicides reported in 2006 were attributed to gangs and 86 percent of murder victims were either black or Hispanic, police said.

LOS ANGELES -- Interracial gang-related attacks in Los Angeles were up in 2006, despite a citywide reduction in crime for the fifth consecutive year, city officials announced Tuesday.

In response, the Los Angeles Police Department, along with city, state and federal officials, are developing a strategy aimed at curbing gang violence, particularly among the city's black and Latino youths.

"Our New Year's resolution in 2007 is to make violent street gangs public enemy No. 1," Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said during a news conference at the LAPD's Central Division police station
