The Last Days of Eric Garcetti?
The buzz has been around for several days that Eric Garcetti may be on the outs as Council president. The jockeying to replace has begun and we've heard some chatter that the front runner could be 10th District Councilman Herb Wesson. Other possibilities include President Pro Tem Wendy Greuel and Assistant President Pro Tem Jan Perry (Don Garza's choice). What do the rest of you think?

It's bullshit.
None of them have the balls, or the power base, to pull it off.
Tom LaBonge is my man. We showed up Wendy a couple of times, and now she's much better. Jan Perry is atrocious. I'm sorry, she leans on her face, has total disinterest, and that looks bad. We need big Tom, he's got the voice, the stature, and the passion and enthusiam that its gonna take to make thgis the great city he always dreams it can be.
Tom was great the other day when he had a shot.

So , I don't know where you get off to saying that I prefer Jan Perry over others.
I actually could care less who the Preseident of Council is.
The problem I think is that now that Eric GArcetti is a naval officer. The liberals jsut don't see him the same as before.
Captain Jack Sparrow would turn this pampered, do-nothing clowncil around if given the opportunity. Perhaps the good captain would consider exchanging his pirate hat for pinstripes.
It's a choice between leprosy and cancer!
Garcetti is a "COG" in the machine that "HIS POLLONESS" is building to run L.A. Bet on Wesson to take helm of city clowncil.

Matt, you obviously don't live in LaBonge's district. He was sold to us as a potholes guy, but the infrastructure of CD 4 is way worse now than when he was elected Councilman. Grafitti's worse. I've been trying to get our Ronda Vista sign fixed for eight years now. With the presidency, he'd be even more distracted from taking care of his own CD.
Meanwhile, Wesson would be the most logical choice. He already doesn't do anything for his district, so nobody would notice if he spent the extra time on the council presidency.

How d’ya think we are able to slip in and out of City Hall and spy upon the sots? We’ve also been known to wear blue jeans and T-shirts as well. But I must admit that one of our crew was at one time a runway model, and knows how to walk upon a catwalk. Walking a catwalk is a handy-dandy skill to have, especially when one must walk carefully amongst the minor scoundrels. Speaking of which, shall we push a few more off the plank?

A little late to the game. Garcetti's made things much much better-meetings on time, some discipline, pads on the seats, etc. He's comfortable there for some time and should be--he's the best.

Voice is reporting that the article about the chicken Kapparot post on Ed Bok's blog has been removed. It was very anti-semitic and complaints were made by the ADL (Anti Defamation League not ADL-LA sic)
Right Joe. Also remember that Wesson is one of "His Polloness'" (I like that name) lieutenants. For a Mayor who needs his guy in control at the Council, Wesson works better for him than anyone other than Weezy, but Weezy's too new to get the spot, ain't going to happen. The other members might not have an issue with Wesson anyway, because in 18 months he'll be elected County Supervisor, so he'll be gone.
If Eric is dumped, it will probably be because Antonio has greased the skids to put in his buddy Wesson. Or, alternatively, since the nature of the beast has become that the members will want someone they perceive as weak -- someone they can push around and who will give them whatever they want -- then they might go with Greuel. Or maybe LaBonge, who would then continue as a buffoon, but as a buffoon from the president's chair....
This choice is the lesser of two evils or should I say 14? Sadly, there is not a ONE I would say could be any better. There is no leadership with this council. They all vote the same and no one has the balls to stand up and have their own voice too afraid to piss off our midget mayor. Eric doesn't have respect of colleagues. Yes he starts the meetings on time but the clowncil are always late. I have yet to see them ALL in their seats at one time. RARE. I go with LaBonge though. Fruity Wesson is more concerned with animals then the people in his district. God help this city.
The ADL doesn't know of any sects of the Jewish community who practice this ancient, unheard of practice.
I don't know where people get the idea that Wesson is AV ally. Wesson is hardly a sure for the mayor on anything. He has his own agenda, totally and completely. I am sure the mayor does not want as skilled and powerful as political figure as council prez. Wesson would be too much of a force, and too much of a potential rival.
Garcetti isn't going anywhere. LaBonge couldn't handle the presidency. Jan Perry's days are over. Greuel is walking on thin ice. There was a time she would be elected over the rest, but her popularity has waned considerably since her pro-development swing. Wesson has nothing to contribute and he is too new. I would have to hope for Greuel if it came down to it, but I would rather Garcetti just hang tight.
If anybody noticed Garcetti has been pushing his accomplishments on people even more strongly these past few weeks. On his website, in the neighborhoods, public meetings, etc. It's funny to see him feel pressured by words that criticize his self-entitlement and primadonna status. He's a good guy, but was always wrong for the job. He has made CD 13 a haven for gentrification. Hollywood is a clone version of typical development hubs, instead of a neighborhood with real culture. Pretty soon the working class brown folks will be pushed out completely, and gentrified whites and snobby minorities will reside in a part of the city that had always had an edge. Welcome to all the trendy crap we see everywhere else on the westside.
Herby Wesson would be a disaster. It won't be long before he's discovered lining his pockets. Eric is a policy wonk, not a hack, and at least he's honest!
Oh, give me a break! You mean to tell me that you all don't know how tight Wendy and His Polloness (I like it, too, Mayor Sam) are?
Wendy claims she grew up will His P. Makes you wonder, since she is so much older.
Admittedly, she wisely is less often in the Mayor's photo ops these days, but where do you suppose these transit village and zone change proposals came from?
His P.'s best friend, Ms. Greuel, not only worked in HUD for Cisneros in Washington, DC for several years, but she is also very close to her longtime chums, the smart-growth urban planners, plus she first sought and became chair of the housing committee where she still sits as a member. Then, she actively solicited to become and is presently the chair of the transportation committee.
Yes,I'll lay all my chips on Ms. Greuel who is the best polititian and the most pro-development on the entire Clowncil; and the Mayor's best friend. If you disagree, it just proves my point. She is really good.
Watch her. You'll discover she is slick as oil on glass!
I couldn't agree more about Wendy. Slick as can be. I like Eric. I don't think anyone will try moving him. What kind of rumor is that?
The thought of Jan Perry as President makes me howl. She couldn't handle that job. I agree with Matt Dowd. She's atrocious. I disagree with Matt about Tom. Tom LaBonge-once voted on here as the LEAST intelligent of all councilmembers. Or did we just outright vote him the MOST stupid? We were right.
