Voting for the Dead in the 38th

Bruce McFarland, President of the Democratic Alliance for Action of Santa Clarita has sent out the following email in reaction to a mailer distributed by the campaign of challenger for the Democratic nomination for the 38th Assembly District, Lyn Shaw-Hilfenhaus:

To Democrats of the 38th Assembly District:

The Democratic Alliance for Action, of which I am president, does not endorse any candidates in contested Democratic Primaries. That being said, I feel I must make a personal statement about a candidate running for the 38th Assembly District because she has acted in a totally self-serving, insensitive, unprofessional and misleading manner.

Lyn Shaw-Hilfenhaus recently sent out a mass-mailer recommending certain Democrats be elected to the L.A. County Democratic Central Committee. Shaw-Hilfenhaus wants voters to support her husband, her mother, and Roberta Gillis, a dead woman who would never, ever, ever support her for any elected office. It is a well-known fact in local Democratic politics that both Shaw-Hilfenhaus and her husband had an intense dislike for Roberta. It seems like the Hilfenhauses have put aside their differences and are now willing to do anything to get Shaw-Hilfenhaus elected.

Shaw-Hilfenhaus, who apparently uses only her "Shaw" name in her mailer and on the ballot because wants to downplay her association with her union-boss husband Jim Hilfenhaus, is asking Democrats to vote for a dead woman, so she can imply a positive association and their mutual support. That action is so egregious and disgusting, I expect Roberta Gillis to rise up from her grave and spit in Lyn Shaw-Hilfenhaus' face, but I'm afraid she'll have to leave that for the Democratic voters.

For those of you who don't know, Roberta Gillis passed away on Good Friday of this year. She was a prominent and popular Democrat who lived in the Santa Clarita Valley and served many years on the County Committee and held numerous positions in both the State and County Democratic Party organizations. I was a close personal friend of Roberta.

I ask Democrats in the 38th AD to consider the above information before casting their votes.

Bruce McFarland, president
Democratic Alliance for Action of Santa Clarita

Obviously the Hilfenhauses want to elect a dead woman so they can then fill her seat with one of their cronies.

This is very similar to when Sheriff Sherman Block died in office, running against current Sheriff Lee Baca.

Members of the Board of Supervisors were encouraging people to vote for Block, even though he was dead, so they could choose someone other than Baca as Sheriff.

I saw this on Lyn's mailer and was equally disgusted since if Roberta wins I think that means Eric Bauman gets to appoint the person to take her seat. Also on her slate was Lyn's husband and mother.

I got another interesting county committee slate mailer in the mail from the Hilfenhaus/Lutness slate sent by Democrats for Better Government with the Lutness' home address as the return address. They have an FPPC number but there are no filings on record at the SoS's web site. This was a PAC set up by Carole Lutness to raise money through musical that she wrote (don't ask) to defeat Buck McKeon. I wonder what their contributors will think when they find out that the money is being used to try to elect Carole?

It would be funny if anyone here actually got the whole story. I think even the "arresting officers" would be having a laugh.

In fact, I could approach you right now, make a citizens arrest (like what the person did to Fuentes) and you'd HAVE TO BE ARRESTED by the officers.

Looks like Bimbo Gloria Romero is in trouble with the Feds. Her pal Don Perata is in trouble being investigated by them and she has the arrogance to TELL the feds to subpoena her instead of cooperating with the investigation. I can bet they will find some indiscretions on her tax alchol bill that got stalled.

This is about the craziest stupid shit Lyn Shaw-Hilfenhaus could pull. She is assuming she will win on Tuesday (despite her mailer I think Alger has this one) so she would get to appoint someone to the seat (The AD Nominee has that right) in addition to the 3 appointments the nominnee gets.

That would give her her mom (Louis Williams who she received an illegal $7,000.00 contribution from, returned it then "loaned" herself $7,000 so she could artificially inflate her funds raised... hey I wonder if Stuart Waldman will be "outraged" about that... doubt it) Her husband, (Jim Hilfenhaus) and four other seats on Central Committee.

Way to look out for the voters there Lyn. Don't run for months then a week beforew the election run a campaign of desperation and ask people to vote for a dead enemy of yours on the eve of her memorial in a final spit on her grave.

Lyn said in the paper she was running a campaign of "integrity".

Apparently her idea of integrity is attacking her opponents family, accepting illegal campaign contributions from family members so she can return them a few days later to make her numbers look better, disrespecting the dead, and defrauding the voters by asking them to vote for a dead woman who's mission in life was to destroy the Shaw-Hilfenhaus clan.

She still, 5 days to election, has not produced one single idea for the district. Not one.

AMAZING.

If Lyn Shaw wins her party's nomination as their candidate for the 38th Assembly District and if Roberta Gillis is also elected, she will be able to appoint her replacement.

This is one of the worst cases of voter deception. First of all, those of us who knew and loved Roberta Gillis, knew that she would never consent to run on Lyn Shaw's slate or be associated with any of the members on her slate. Every member of her slate hated Roberta Gillis and plotted for her political destruction inside the Democratic Party.

Second of all, the great majority of voters did not know Roberta Gillis. The Lyn Shaw slate will deceive these voters to vote for a dead woman. This is knowingly giving false information to voters. Unless you live in Santa Clarita or are active in the Democratic Party, you would now know that Roberta Gillis has passed away.

Thousands of voters living in the 38th Assembly District and voting in the San Fernando Valley or in Simi Valley, will vote for Roberta Gillis, because of the Lyn Shaw slate. If Roberta Gillis was not cremated, then she would turn over in her grave. For Roberta Gillis hated deception an loved honesty.

Deception feeds on false information and breeds corruption. Deception destroyed democracy in Germany and Italy. A vote for Lyn Shaw and her slate will be a step in the destruction of democracy in America. On election day, let Roberta Gillis rest in peace and vote for the living and for a slate that offers honest, not deceptive leadership.

Wow just think what one line one Lyn's mailer has done to the body politic. Given rise to new Nazism according to Winkler and destroyed the social fabric of morality according to Mcfartland.

If only these people had something to do with their time except worrying about their losing county committee campaigns and coming in behind a dead lady.

You know if the truth were known the whole tiff of Roberta vs Jim (not Lyn) had to do with Ron Gillis losing the CDP Regional Directors race to Jim Hilfenhaus. Roberta was always nice to Lyn.

Guess McFartland, who ran on two oppositional slates to get elected to the State Central Committee is the paragon of virtue who can sniff slease out in a second if his nose wasn't plugged up by his own filthy tactics.

The only objections to whatever action is caused by Lyn winning this election with the endorsements of the CA Firefighters, the Cal Labor Fed, CWA, AFSCME,Laborers, Teamsters, the County Fed, County Dem Chair Bauman, Senator Alarcon +$1k donation (I know poor Jim says Richard and Lyn's families are old friends- ask Senator Alarcon he will tell you the real reason), Assm Frommer+$3.3k donation are by a bunch of people afraid they are not going to get elected to the County Committee. And they are also Alger supporters to boot so treat their cries with as much sympathy as they deserve, boo hoo.

As to the question of Lyn's Moms loan. Unlike the potential felony moneylaundering that Alger engages in, this was real money put in a bank and paid back by donations coming in from other sources. Alger on the other hand had money loaned? to him (BY HIS WIFE, CAMPAIGN MANAGER AND ACCOUNTANT)while under BK and paid the loans back with the loan money (moneylaundering and fraud and felony if no bank deposit was ever made and the report was then falsified - another felony perjury charge for Jim Alger?)

But look to character of the comments by Alger supporters, Lyn is fat ,ugly, a stooge and doesn't campaign on Mayor SAM. BOY WHO COULDN'T BE PROUD OF SUPPORTERS LIKE THAT. you know the kind that resort to grade school retorts against the Chair of the Women's Caucus for the California Democratic Party, Ten year chair of the 43rd AD ( which transitioned from Rep to Dem majority under her leadership), endorsed by NARAL ( only one of three candidates in the state to receive such an endorsement in an open seat with multiple pro-choice candidates because of their records- spin that fools) and on the Steering Committee of Prop 186 the precursor of SB840 by 12 years (the first Single Payer Health care effort in CA)

The term "labor bosses" just seems to flow from Camp Alger like a right wing love-in. Alger lost every labor endorsement he sought.

JIM ALGER HAS ALSO LOST RE-ELECTION TO HIS NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL.THAT SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT THE GUY.

On June 6th this all will be resolved, winners and losers will be decided by voters.

7:59 Camp Hilfenhaus toad...

First of all Jim Alger did NOT lose a NC election... HE WASN'T EVEN UP FOR RE-ELECTION YOU IDIOT!

Second, EVERY DIME reported on the 460's was deposited into a bank account... EVERY THIN DIME. (Including the 10K drawn on a JOINT ACCOUNT) Hence no Money Laundering/felony yada yada yada.

Now, you idiots went and accepted an illegal contribution of 7k, the Lyn loans herself the same 7k, and Hilfenhaus gets his union to donate 7k... there is 99% of all your cash. Alger just reported 9K in donations in the last 24 hr period .. uh oh looks like you guys are in trouble.

I just wonder if Waldman is going to be as enraged and appalled since you guys pulled a rope a dope with your finances to pad the money. At least Alger waited MONTHS to return loans.

Oh, and quit with the stupid ass "Union Boss" crap... Union Leader, Union Boss, His Royal Hiness... we really don't give a shit what the pc term is for a labor union leader today. Just another red herring from camp Williams/Shaw/Hilfenhaus.

I heard Alger lost the vote to remain President of his Neighborhood Council and is now claiming the vote was improper. All these alledged accomplishments and his own N/C votes him out of a leadership position. Maybe they know something we do not.

Gee I wonder who Alger reported those donations to.

No sign of it on the SoS site as would be required by law to be reported by electronic means within 24 hours.

Still no reference as to why Lyn's personal money would be illegal but Alger's is not. Hipocracy is OK I guess, at least it is the only game Alger plays at.

The legal difference is that Lyn can spend her money (legally loaned, legally raised, legally repaid) but Alger just floated paper aka fraud (his personal choice of crimes).

One individual, Julie Butcher, who claims never to have endorsed Alger, is the only endorsement out of 600,000 labor members in L.A. that you pathetic souls can claim, GET A LIFE. Hopefully one that doesn't corrupt the body politic.

No one received a call from any AFL-CIO phone bank for Alger. Wouldn't be surprsing if he was trying to commit that kind of fraud with his own phone machines.

The LA County Fed has endorsed Lyn Shaw for Assembly in the 38th AD. go to LA Union (the FED web site) for checking up facts.

You know try the Secretary of State's web site to see true reported financials, except that Alger has no filings there for anything, including the late required by law $9,000.00 that he claims was just in. Visit you in prison on that one.

Hey Bozo...

ALL filings have been made. Alger just doesnt file electronicly so thy don't make the sos site, (as is clearly stated on the sos site).

Oh, and unions are calling for him. The calls are coming from out of state... probably because of his wal mart victory.

You guys at camp Hilfenass keep acting like you have the lock on labor, you don't. As if you are the shit, your not. Your accepted donation from LOUIS WILLIAMS was ILLEGAL plain and simple but I'd expect nothing less from the drug convicted, bankrupted, running under an alias, disengaged camp such as the williams-shaw-hilfenhaus clan.

When Alger mops the floor with your asses next week you can crawl back under whatever rock you came from.

What else is new?

Still trying to get people to vote for a dead woman? Why don't you just spit on Robertas grave... that would have at least been honest.

That's funny, Alger didn't lose a single thing. 3 Hard Core Republicans who support Smith tried a coup of a 13 member board when half the board wasn't there.

Alger didn't allege a problem, a stakeholder filed a complaint and now the full board will have to vote again. With the full board there, Alger has 70% of the board so that doesn't sound like some massive "ousting" of Alger... looks more like overwhelming support.

I am on the NWNC and most of us are calling for Jim this weekend so believe me, he has the support of the Council.

So all this bs talk about some massive election loss is just that, bs...

Now Ethelyn Lyn Williams Shaw Hilfenhaus's attempt to defraud the voters by asking them to vote for a dead woman... that is an interesting story.

Alger did lose the vote. Now his team lies. How can anyone trust this candidate. Getting a majority vote at a meeting is not a coup. It is democracy. He who shows up, gets to vote. Apparently Alger's team was MIA. Alger is not a King. He is a board member on a neighborhood council. A coup! What is wrong with you people?

June 03, 2006 4:06 PM

The Shaw Hilfenhaus desperation is showing, as is their ignorance.

If a majority of the board has not taken a vote, then no vote took place. If a meeting wasn't legally held (either failed to make a quorum, lost it's quorum or was not properly noticed) then no action could even take place. Can you guys follow that? Or has all of Jim Hilfenhauses pot smoked out your brains?

Or are you so desperate to try and take a shot at Alge and distract attention from your disgusting tactics that you must show how little you know about the Neighborhood Council system or the laws that govern them?

Attmpting to correlate that with the race for State Assembly is the same as saying Lyn isn't qualified because she didn't get the Democratic Party endorsement... what a rebuke of one of their own.

What do they know that we don't?

Why don't the people who "know her best" such as DPSFV, the Young Democrats or even the party not support her???

See... two can play that game.

Too bad Alger was ready for it huh?

You guys at camp Hilfenhaus lost the endorsement of EVERY club in the 38th, have been running a negative attack campaign crowned by this wonderful hit mailer and have asked people to vote for a dead woman who despised you.

You fuckers are lower than whale shit. I hope Alger kicks your ass and your entire slate loses County Committee. We don't need people who use these tactics in the Democratic Party.

Go work for Tom Delay, you'd fit right in over there.
