Trash Tax: Of Welshing And Gyps

For some historical background on why the new trash tax is a gyp, along with an explanation of how City Council is using it to circumvent the super-majority voting requirement for new taxes, here's a link to an article by John Coupal in the Daily News.

The reason trash pick up has been "free" till now is that voters agreed, long ago, to higher property taxes to pay for it. By charging separately for trash pick up now, without reducing property taxes correspondingly, the City is Welshing on the original deal and effectively raising taxes without voter approval.

Also, don't you just love the expressions "gyp" and "Welshing?" I mean, what a way to convey a concept while gratuitously slamming entire groups of people who never engaged the in the behavior in question! How did those terms arise, anyway?

All homeowners have received a Notice of Proposed Increase in Solid Waste Fee. This notice was sent as required by Prop. 218 and contains an address to mail a protest and to vote to overturn proposed fee increase.

It is not true that the voters will not get a chance to vote. It is true that the City is not telling voters their rights under Prop 218.

GYP: "It’s often said that to gyp derives from gypsy, and it seems highly probable. However, direct evidence is lacking, and the term arose in the US, where gypsies have been less common than in Europe. Gypsies don’t call themselves that, by the way, but Roma, from their word Rom, a man. The verb only began to appear in print near the end of the nineteenth century and took some time to become well known (it’s not in the 1913 edition of the Webster Unabridged Dictionary, for example)." WELSH (or WELCH): "Welch is an archaic form of Welsh, one that pretty much survives only in the sense meaning someone who does not fulfill a bet. This usage dates to around 1857. The origin is obscure, but it undoubtedly originated as an ethnic slur. The term may derive from an old nursery rhyme that included the words "Taffy was a Welshman, Taffy was a thief." Why are you still whining and complaining when it's a done deal with the trash hike? Nothing you can do about it now. You should have organized and packed city council when it was up for a vote. Gotta be proactive in this city not Johnny Come Lately.

They finally got two people who's Karma got to them.
Richard Mueruelo gets 5 year Ban for demolishing buildings in downtown area without permit and can't develop. Remember he spent $197,300 on Antonio's campaign.

Steve Yagman the moron who kept suing LAPD and made council members appear at depositions got indicted on 19 counts by federal grand jury.

THIS IS KARMA WORKING AT ITS BEST. WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND. STILL WAITING FOR A COUPLE OF OTHERS TO GET THERES.

Why aren't newspapers reporting the LAX security bad?....NBC 4 Henry said that anyone can access a huge facility where commercial planes are maintained, even though many experts say it should be a highly secured area.
"We spent hours inside the maintenance operation area," Henry reported. "We found security gates unlocked in areas that are supposed to be off-limits to the public."
Henry said areas leading up to the runways were "wide open." Security fences guarding sensitive areas were in some cases "old, rusty and even falling apart." Antiterrorism expert and former FBI agent Rick Hahn joined Henry and his producer at LAX to see what they had found. "We drove in here without being stopped at all," antiterrorism expert Hahn said. "No sign whatsoever, except one that said 'Checkpoint Ahead.' But, of course, there was no checkpoint ... If this is supposed to be a secure zone, it's terribly outrageous."
....Also troubling was the line of truck drivers waiting to drop off their loads..."The fact is ... you are between two active runways here," Hahn said. "You could easily drive through these fences, right on the runway, and potentially attack an aircraft as it's taxiing."

This one act pisses me off almost more than anything that shitty, sneaky, greaseball Mechista mayor has done so far. It's been voted down by the public and he knew he couldn't win....so he arbitrarily says "Fuck you" to the voters.

I will appeal it. But I hope this act demonstrates the lack of ethical and moral fortitude of this Spic. And to use the LAPD as the cause celebre! Does he really think we voters are that stupid???

This taco bender is running a dictatorship along with his Mexican mafia council members.

Have the voters had enough yet? How much more will you tolerate before you demand a recall?

He has already committed political suicide, but I can't stand the thought of seeing his greasy face for 3 more years.

Do you think it's funny?
