Open Thread for Monday
As we reported last week, Mayor Villaraigosa's plan to take over the Los Angeles Unified School District is in trouble in Sacramento.
Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez personally called the Mayor and told him the plan is in trouble in an Assembly committee. The Mayor was advised to get up to Sacramento this week and save the plan. Assembly Member Jackie Goldberg told the press that Villaraigosa's proposal has only three of the six votes its needs to get out of her Education Committee.
This could be interesting to watch. For you political junkies out there, you might see if you can try to connect the dots from this story to that of Villaraigosa's alleged reluctance to endorse fellow Democrat Phil Angelides' campaign for Governor, when nearly every other Democrat in the state has done so.

Antonio has fucked up. If he doesn't correct the Angelides endorsement, he'll never rise above mayor.

Agree with 6:20am. This is major trouble for Antonio not to be united with the Democrats and then spending all his photo time with Arnold. He better get on board or he can kiss any future elections good bye. Knowing Antonio's arrogance he'll do what he wants and the hell with consequences.

Payback is a bitch. Antonio endorsed Kevin de Leon, not Jackie's pick Elena Popp. de Leon won, now Jackie's looking for payback.

I don't know about you 9:28 but Elena is and was the most qualified candidate. De Leon's win is a setback for progressive movement. The election was stolen from her by Fabian and Sacramento money.
We all know too well, local scoundrels don't want intelligent women rocking the boat. It's the mens club. Elena should have won.

The defeat of Prop 82 should tell all of you that the Mexican mafia is on it's way out.
We are so sick of Toilet Guy and his gangsters...WE CLEAN YOUR TOILETS AND WE WASH YOUR FEET"!
The 'WE' is going to be gone soon. It will be "US" and the majority of "US" are sick of the "WE's".
The only blight on this city is from the trash in City Hall and HIS people. WE will clean them out and flush them down the toilet.
Toilet Guy is washed up and I hope he enjoys his last days searching for every camera lens he can find. The next photo op will be on a "Most Wanted" poster in the Post Office. Reporters are on to him and really want to bring him down. He thinks he is invincible and infallable....but wait til the shit hits the fan.
Hasta la Vista...Toilet GUy!

Please what reporters? Not the shit of a rag LA Times. ALl they do is put out huge pictures of Antonio with puff pieces saying how great he is. I would love David Zachniser at LA Weekly to do it. He's the only one with the biggest balls to go after the facts and truth. You won't see his stories spinned or bias.

You're right. Elena's victory was stolen out from under her and she was on the money about Kevin DeLeon. I voted for Elena but am going to support Sam. A vote for the Republican candidate is a better form of payback for Kevin, Fabian and ultimately Antonio. And I have to give Sam credit in that she is rather steadfast in her opposition of the LAUSD takeover plan, and is willing to not only rock the boat but take it over and sail it all the way to Sacramento for us. GO SAM!!

Speaking of Kevin de Leon, you can see him in this 1994 video with Fabian Nunez showing where his allegiance lies.
