MEChA Is Not The Enemy
Gustavo Arellano, the writer of the OC Weekly's "Ask A Mexican" column writes in defense of MEChA in an LA Times piece.
You know, I have to agree with many of his points. Though I am not a member of the open borders crowd, MEChA never really worried me. Sure, they have goofball radicals like Academia principal Marcos Aguilar as members, but having grown up in a majority Hispanic neighborhood, I am very familiar with MEChA. In my day, the most radical thing they did was raise a few dollars for college schoarlships. I even had fun DJing a MEChA dance in junior high once, though I had no clue what the music was saying.
Back then at Pacoima Junior High and San Fernando High, my Hispanic friends who were amongst the "cool kids" thought the MEChAists were a bunch of dorks.
A more disconcerting group is La Voz De Atzlan with its blatant anti-semitism and anti-gay rhetoric. There may be some overlap between La Voz and MEChA among some members, but there is no direct connection between the two. But even then, La Voz is a small time organization.
Honestly, I'm more worried about the public employee unions, the ACLU and the Democratic party than MEChA. They're far more dangerous.

You've just spoiled the last peg on McIntyre's platform not already proven to be oversimplified rabble rousing.
And after he was so nice to you on-air.

You'll be suprised how many Latinos, including me, do not care for M.E.Ch.A. Actually, it's not that I don't care, but I don't know there goals and what they stand for. And I have no desire to comprehend the group.

My hispanic female friends use to tell me how the MECHISTAS would call them sell outs for dating anglos in College. It was refreshing to see Gustavo's Op-Ed in the La Antonio Times.it showedthat most hispanics are here to assimilate, not to separate.

Mayor Sam you haven't seen this new breed of radical MeCha people. They are disruptive when they attend community meetings and demand everything be said in Spanish. They try and takeover anything they go to sprue all that radical hate for other races. They are an embarrassement.
That fruity Gustavo Arellano was on a cable show yesterday. I think MSNC and the host asked him since you speak for "Mexicans" why do they have Our Lady of Guadalupe" all over the place especiall in their cars?" That idiot laughed and said, "I've even seen Guadalupe on rims and dip." This is the idiot making it worse for Mexican Americans in this country with that type of stupidity and statements. I'm not surprised the RAG LA TIMES posted his op-ed.

This shit is hilarious, come on MEChistas aren't dangerous. Gustavo was right, we spent most of our time doing was trying improve recruitment strategies for college, develop academic programs, after-school tutoring for local elementary students and outreach to the immigrant community. A few of us helped people file their 1040s and English tutoring.
And by the way, we weren't a Mexican-scentric group, we had white, Jewish, Dominican, multi-racial and gay members.
Stop taking this crap seriously, Gustavo is making a few points... If you think this is going to affect the way people see Mexican-Americans, your an idiot and obviously don't pay attention to that fact that most people don't care.
They think Mexican and Mexican-Americans don't assimilate and learn English, when in fact they do it at a faster and higher rate then their European counterparts of the early 20th Century.
Do yourself a favor, read some Alejandro Portes and Doug Massey and you might learn something about them.

The founding documents and plans are posted for all to see. The words out of Mr. Aguilar's mouth are plain.
No one repudiates the Mecha documents, at least not the professors and politicians that benefit from this philosophy. Read their work.
Mecha is, at its roots, racist and separatist. Arrellano's premise is equivalent to someone justifying membership in the KKK only because they server up a great potluck.

6:30 AM - Fair enough. My personal experience with MEChA ends around 1979.
A friend of mine, an assimilated Latino (so assimilated he wore OP shirts) made fun of me for being friends with some of the MEChA kids, he called me "King MEChA." That was the pejorative the Americanized Latinos in our school used for the recent immigrants or ESL kids.
Still, even if MEChA has become more radicalized in recent years, I still content the Democrats and Unions scare me more. They have far more power to screw with our lives than the MEChistas.

Is this true that Marcos has the Virgin posted all over the school? Call Zev and the ACLU. If Christmas is outlawed, then this should be too.

Mechistas are radical, brutish, thugs. I guess no one every told them that it is a no-no to try to run over and kill a radio reporter just trying to do his job. And what about the Mission College incident in Riverside? And what about the Pasadena City College incident?
I have read hundreds of instances of thuggish behavior on college campuses over the past decades.
But the terrifying aspect to everything is that we have the biggist racist, separatist, Mechista sitting in the mayor's office. He is in deep doo-doo now. He can't cover up his agenda much longer. Thanks to the Sandy Welles incident, the squatters on Alameda St., the Gran Marcha.."We clean your toilets", and the love fest between his evil twin, Vicente Fox, last month.
He will never get his dream of taking over LAUSD. Prop 82 went down in flames and he is smart enough to see the shift in public opinion. It's all going to be downhill for Mr. Reconquista from now on.
Thank you, Sandy Welles and Doug McIntyre...the sleeping giant has been awakened! Recall Villaraigosa!!! LAwatchdog.com

Good that the radical white-flight fear-mongers like that last poster finally have a group of people to pick on that match their own intellectual zenith.
9- and 10-year-olds at a elementary school in working class community.
Finally you can pick on someone you own (mental) size. Don't hang on to that thread of hope too long, though. By 6th grade these "poor performing" kids will all be smarter than you.
BUT, you could always go back for your GED. Shouldn't take more than 5-6 years of remedial catchup.

Dear 10:09 AM,
It's obvious Marcos is not ALLOWED to post on Mayor Sam's.
What PR FIRM do you work for? Freelancer? Intern? Recent High School Graduate? Marcos's college pal? Academia staff?
I see through ur posts.

You call that a rebuttal?
Sheee-it. Another "mainstreamed" LAUSD grad chimes in.
(Here's the essence of the reply "I don't believe you, so there!")

Elementary Dude. Rebuttal? Nah, don't waste my time with recent grads.
Keep your glasses on the monitor
I never believed you 11:58 AM your careless.

GIVE IT UP!!!!
You are obviously one of those little punk gangbanger thugs who I won't even dignify with a response. You are not worth my time or energy. But I will devote my time and energy to removing your 'leaders' from this country. And guess what....there are millions of Americans who are doing the same. We are only going after the head of the snake....the rest of you will just disappear.

Another "pithy" rebuttal that goes right to the heart of the problem.
If I can't debate, I'll berate.

Look at that Mecha eagle. Dynamite and an axe. Look at the Mecha creed; Reconquista defined.
Look into the writings and speeches of Prof. Acuna (affiliated with Academia Semillas) and judge for yourself.

Take another look at what the American Eagle carries: arrows and some really low-grade marijuana.

Ths sad fact is that MECHE and the Voz de Atzlan only reflect the commonly held prejudices of Mexicans whether white or brown - an extreme hate of blacks and lesser but irrational animus to other races and non Mexican nationals.
One can only imagine the riots in Orange county had Mexico had lost to Angola instead of playing to a tie an African team. Any black family that rented or owned property in a predominantly Mexican area can testify to this extreme bigotry.
Marcos Aguilar's comments that he feels he is Alabama in 1960's belies the fact that most Mexicans have intense irrational racial prejudices more reflective of the 1860's.
MECHE members and their leadership would no more condemn Voy de Atzlan website than Irish Republican Army members condemn fringe IRA breakaway groups or the PLO the terrorism of HAMAS.
