Cindy to Run for CD7
Following her defeat by Alex Padilla last night for the Democratic nomination for the 20th State Senate seat, tipsters are telling us that Assemblywoman Cindy Montanez will run for the 7th District City Council seat that will presumably be vacated by Padilla who is expected to win election to the State Senate in November.Montanez was termed out of her 39th District Assembly seat, which will now go to current 20th District Senator Richard Alarcon, who was un-opposed in his quest for the Democratic nomination, and will face only minor party opposition in November. Of course, Alarcon once held the 7th CD seat that Padilla holds and that Cindy will run for.

Felipe will be defeated because he's an ass and no one likes him (except James Acevedo).
Felipe has a degree and obivously knows how to raise money. Is Cindy in danger of becoming the Nick Pacheco of the Valley? This must keep Parke up at night.
And ALex didn't pull out all the stops in this campaign. With such a big lead going into the final weeks, he didn't need to get nasty. Felipe will get nasty.
Why didn't Huizar endorse Cindy? I thought Parke and Tony had their lap dogs in check.

Cindy wasn't termed out of the assembly. She served 2 terms and could have served one more.
Felipe is a sloth and doesn't have the compelling story Alex has. Felipe is just another obese Latino (with a degree).

I think that anon 4:39 PM just wants to point out how unfaithful Jose Huizar is to the Mayor. Huizar would have had a much tougher time winning CD14 had it not been for the Mayor's support. Huizar then "pays" the Mayor back by endorsing Padilla instead.
This smells a little funny to me. Does anyone out there have dirt on Huizar's current relation with Villaraigosa & Co.? It's clear how Padilla feels about the Mayor (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-montanez9may09,1,2795184.story),
so it's surprising that Huizar would break from the mold like that, and so soon after his ascent.

There is nothing old about this news. Before it was all speculation, as Cindy was out to win the Senate seat.
Well, at 1:30 a.m., with 80% of the vote counted, Cindy gave a short concession speech. And announced to the public for the first time that she was going to run for the Council District 7 seat.
She will probably move to Sylmar. Her family has gone to the First Lutheran Schools for over 30 years and there are many roots in Sylmar.
For those that may recall, 4 years ago it was 75% Montanez to 25% Fuentes. That was Felipe's sister Yolanda. In talking with many of the community activists in Sylmar today, many will welcome the possibility that the community gets a council candidate who will just do her job and help clean up the community.
And do the math: 7 years as a councilmember and she terms out. At the same time, Alex terms out of his Senate seat, so Cindy will probably get that job eventually.
For you that get hung up on this being a rumour for so long, remember that her council interest was just that: speculation.
Now that she announced to a room full of supporters and family, you will find stories about this in the Thursday newspapers.

You are both wrong about the San Fernando Regional Pool Facility Project. It has stalled because the project has just become too expensive to build and it is not within in the city's budget. Martinez and Ruelas, and not even Cindy's sister, De la Torre, have anything to do with the fact. Give this one a rest.
I'm really not fond of the idea of people moving from district to district just so that they can run for office, but it seems to be the tenor of the time. As a member of CD7, I am willing to give Cindy a chance, even though I supported Padilla. Hopefully what Cindy did for San Fernando she can do for the Sylmar/Pacoima areas.
One more thing. I find it funny that Steve Veres at one time wanted to get rid of all non-resident volunteers serving in San Fernando (i.e. commissioners). Now he's coming to unchartered territory asking for our votes.
Cindy, you have to get rid of Steve. He may be a hard worker, but he alienates a lot of people who would otherwise stick by you.

I don't think it's about Cindy getting rid of Steve, it's about Steve not wanting to go. This is one of the worst cases of fatal attraction I have ever seen. Steve isn't even from the valley. But he bought a house in San Fernando, he ran Cindy's sisters campaign in San Fernando and he even ran for office himself in San Fernando. Yet Cindy is still not impressed. Shouldn't have led him on at UCLA Cindy, now you'll never get rid of him. Does he still secretly follow you around when you go out on dates with other guys?
I think its sad that teh CD7 race will get nagative and very ugly. There will be two Latinos running and using every dirty trick to get elected. Word out there already is the same people who voted for Padilla will support Felipe. He has experience in city hall and is smart. If you're going to attack him don't do it personally but on the issues. A lot of people don't like the fact that Cindy is moving into CD7 just to run. She's making them feel as if they're being used for her political career.
Don't forget that Nury Martinez moved into San Fernando to run for office there. Everyone is affected by politics everywhere, so the fact of the matter is it doesn't matter where they live as long as they do a good job.

yes it is old news that all 3 latino politicos - alarcon, padilla and montanez (sounds like a law firm in ela) were gonna play musical chairs. i went to events in the valley months ago where community groups (non profits and profit alike) already had there hands in the dipping pot -if alex won,they would get first dibs at federal grant money that they were sure to get from their 'pal'.
padilla didnt win cause of grit or integrity - he won cause he's takes a pretty picture and he had many different cbo's helping out their old homeboy.
