More Protests Planned for Monday

Tens of thousands of anti-immigration reform advocates are expected to march in a candlelight vigil and procession in Downtown Los Angeles Monday evening. The procession is part of a national "Day of Action" and follows failure by the U.S. Senate to approve federal legislation that would have provided citizenship to certain groups of illegal immigrants.

Despite controversy regarding his insertion into a political issue, Catholic Cardinal Roger Mahony will participate by offering an opening prayer. Mahony does not intend to march in the protest however.

Among the organiztions partcipating in the event are The Coalition for Humane Immigrants Rights, The Central American Resource Center, the Colombian American Citizens in Action, National Korean American Service & Educatio, The Progressive Jewish Alliance, the American
Civil Liberties Union and several labor unions.

There will also be a rally outside the Lss Angeles Unified School District's main office, where
participants have been asked to wear white. As well a separate candlelight vigil was planned for 6:30 p.m. outside the Van Nuys Federal Building.

One interesting aspect of the immigration protests is how young people are using hi-tech methods to organize, such as the website MySpace.com. Here's one example where the upcoming May 1st "Day Without Latinos" is promoted and discussed.

Why didn't they protest yesterday like the other cities? They don't care that they are inconviencing hundreds of city workers marching right at drive time after work at 5pm. Who is paying for all the police officers, transportation dept, street closures for this to happen? WE ARE. Antonio will probably be right in front. Forget that he said "I am a mayor for All people." He's pissed off a lot of valley people and Westside people with his immigration stand.

Its pretty smart of those Latinos to schedule these marches for the early evening. That way, most workers are off work and the kids are out of school. They can snarl up traffic and piss off the white folks. And its all in time for the evening news on TV.

Let's see how those dumb students behave protesting at LAUSD at 4:30pm. Last week it was complete cauious. The kids who spoke to the board last week are definitely being brain washed and have that stupid MeCha mentality. It turns people off when you shout and demand.

What a bunch of hypocrites!!! Now because they were critized for carrying Mexican flags today they are carrying American flags. It just goes to show they blow with the wind. They have signs saying "tomorrow we'll vote." HELLOOO they can't vote that's how lame they are. IF they wanted to be here legally they should have applied years ago. Send them back.

Talk radio tonight is making fun of Antonio saying "We clean your toliets." Yeah, his girlfriends maybe but not him. He's getting slammed for siding with the illegals. You can forget he's "Everyone's mayor." He just sounded again like a flip flopper. E-mails flying from Valley and Westside about what the hell kind of mayor does this city have!!!!
