LAUSD: Take the money and run

Another anonymous tip today, LAUSD schools are asking those who wish to protest to check in to class, get marked present on the roll and then be bused to protests. That way, the District is able to claim "average daily attendance" funds from the state.

We have an inquiry into the District, but so far they have not responded. If you have details, feel free to blog away.

Is this such a surprise?

It became clear to me, when I was in high school in LAUSD, that the reason they had a "tardy lockout" policy was to keep us there so the school could get paid.

It is why they didn't care about student's health - and threatened a friend of mine who got pneumonia with expulsion. He was sick too much, and they weren't making money off of him.

I am not sure the students were bussed by the district, but the district certainly had them check in and then teachers told them to go if they were joining the protest. (At least that is what happened at my sons school)

I say we put these damn illegals on a BUS AND SHIP THEM THE HELL OUT OF HERE SINCE THEY LIKE TO WAVE THE MEXICAN FLAG SO DAMN MUCH.

That's all well and good, but most high schools and middle schools are on hourly attendance accounting, so students are marked present or absent for each class. Students have to attend at least a minimum day (usually 4 hours) to generate an ADA for funding purposes.

Though this could be a good civics lesson, attending a protest is not an excused absence under the law.

This is nothing new.

20 years ago when I was in high school (Alhambra School District) they made a huge push for attendance, even hired a counselor whose job it was to make sure that you showed up so you could count. They made no secret of what they were trying to do either. If you were out they had people who worked in the evening to call home to check in with your parents so they knew you were out of school. I believe at the time (maybe this is still the case) if you were legitimately sick they still got the money for you for that day, so they would pretty much tell parents that even if we weren't sick, to write on the note that we were.

This is ridiculous!!! Why would someone risk their job? Students will tell their parents and parents will contact the school.

Roy Romer was on the news today stating that there are California laws against what these students are doing and now they will be enforced. There were more than 20 students arrested today for walking on the fwy again. They are indeed criminals and if they can't obey the laws send them back. They have ruined the positive message with their b.s. this week. They have been an embarrassement to this city and to the people who marched with respect and dignity on Sat. Antonio is livid because this footage of them breaking the law is being shown all over the US/

If only all the ex-slaves down south hadn't broken the laws that kept them eating at a lunch counter, and hadn't broken the laws that kept them from riding in the front of the bus, or in a normal seat in a train car - we'd be in such a better place, right? Hah! Yeah right. "Law breaking" only warrants so much attention.

Are the kids protesting clueless teenagers: most likely. I am sure we both could agree that half of those kids out there today just wanted to ditch school. Do their actions justify criminal penalties: probably not.

You just seem pissed that these kids are getting news coverage. Boo hoo hoo. They are the people whose lives are on the bleeding edge of this issue. Their half-baked exuberance shows their will to be part of civil society - to have a voice, and be someone important who stands up for causes they believe in. Coming from kids who go to school in some of the worst facilities in L.A., that is a promising message.

How can I sum this up? We need to enforce our existing laws and deport all 10-20 million illegal aliens right now.

ubrayj02,you seem to keep forgetting important facts about civil rights struggles in this country. The struggle by blacks was to ensure their equal rights as Americans. They didn't want to have extraneous rights; in other words, they didn't COME to this country to set up their overthrow the culture of America - they were forced here. Hispanics want free healthcare on demand even though they are criminals. They demand we speak THEIR language. Apparently they also want us to flag their flag from the looks of all those nutcase kids. If they think their actions are making people join their side of the argument, they're dead wrong. They have moved fence-sitters to the right. People look at those flags and those angry faces calling us racists for expecting people to respect the US enough to obey our laws. I hope they march on the freeway every day, it'll give this state the much-needed kick in the ass it needs to throw them out of here. No other ethnic group in US history has demanded so much and used the race card to justify their greed.

fairus.org:

Analysis of the latest Census data indicates that California's illegal immigrant population is costing the state's taxpayers more than $10.5 billion per year for education, medical care and incarceration. Even if the estimated tax contributions of illegal immigrant workers are subtracted, net outlays still amount to nearly $9 billion per year.

The U.S. must place sanctions on Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Uruguay, Argentina, and Korea.

For each immigrant who we tally, they are sanctioned or fined.

These countries must fix their economics and fast!

I HOPE THEY DO IT AGAIN TODAY AND THE REST OF THE WEEK!!!!! A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS...INN THIS CASE IT'S PRICELESS.

NOW THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS WHAT COULD HAPPEN TO THE REST OF THE COUNTRY IF THEY DON'T GET RID OF ALL THE ILLEGALS!!!!!

LOL! You must be an LAUSD graduate (or dropout). The people participating in the civil rights movement were "ex-slaves"?!?! They were born well before 1865?! Wow. Is this the type ignorance that passes as keen analysis on the left?

I sputtered when I read this bullshit. What effing difference does this make?! You are so caught up in this debate on goddamn principles that you don't see what our bullshit immigration policy does to our economy. Unless we want to turn into another steaming pile of command-economy left-overs (see: the Soviet Union) we would be well advised to take these kids in, teach the hell out of them, get them signed up with being American, and watch our economy grow in proportion to our investment in our human capital.

And your argument about "greed"? Oh, these dastardly little lucky ducks! What, with their free emergency hospitalizations, free exposure to disease and violence on our streets, free exposure to the criminal justice system, and free "education" (seen the drop-out rate lately?). They are hogging opportunities to be a life-time felon and a throw away person from us native-born people!

I don't care anymore about what is the "fair" thing to do - I care about my country's long-term best interests. If we are going to keep on being a democracy, we are going to have to admint immigrants. If we are going ot admit immigrants, we have to invest in them in order to ensure our future economic strength.

You can invest $2 billion in a new highway, or you can invest $2 billion in the youth of this region. Which will give you the higher return in the next 10, 20 and 50 years? Those kids that were in the streets, ditching school, are not going anywhere anytime soon. They represent the future of this country, and the future health of our economy. You ignore their best interests at your own peril.

Why these kids? Because their parents broke our laws and want to refight old battles to regain control of CA? Sure we can invest in human capital. We have plenty of it here already in the form U.S. citizens. We can invest in LEGAL immigrants and their children. That's the point that you chosse to remain blind to. No matter how much you want to spin it, illegal immigrants are wrong, they need to return to their countries and apply for citizenship just like everyone else in the world has to.

Tony the Thug can't run away from these cameras!!!

This was God's gift to all AMERICANS. Saturday was nothing but hate speech, Mexican flags, defiance, arrogance, and "this is OUR land" sort of stuff. And it's all on film.

But this week was icing on the cake! America woke up and saw it up close and personal. There is a huge movement to recall Villar starting today. We have legal recourse and some very smart lawyers are already on the case.

Stay tuned...it's really going to heat up. I can hardly wait. Adios Tony!

I am old white man living in Irvine, and I'm pretty ashamed of what I've been reading. Of course, we need to do something about this immigration issue. But it starts with the Bush administration and the EMPLOYERS who employ illegal immigrants. We criticize these people for coming to our country, but what we don't realize is that the BUSH administration is encouraging them to do so. How do you think the economy turned itself around post 9/11? Low-wage work!!! Wake up, people. As for the flag situation...give me a break. For pete's sake, I had my Irish flag out during St.Patrick's day. Does that make me a U.S. hater? And, if we are going to talk about immigration, let's not forget about the Canadian border, which 2 million per year flow through.

What FUCKING difference does it make????? That HISPANICS come here ILLEGALLY and you compare them to Africans FORCED here??? Your hypocrisy and racism is staggering. You wouldn't add one frigging line to this blog if the illegals coming here weren't latinos. You wouldn't stand up for one second for a million Chinese coming into Los Angeles County illegally. It's like that jackass who took issue with my saying "what if we all had to suddenly speak Russian because Russians were the majority of illegals coming in". He said "Oh but California was never Russian so that's different". The point being this entire movement is about one thing and one thing only: latinos are bitter that they got their ass kicked a couple hundred years ago and this place AIN'T hispanic NOW. You and your people continue to use racism as the excuse why we don't want to be overrun by latinos when the fact is it's YOUR racism that is the main reason we don't want you here. After all, you haven't denied you want us all to be forced to speak Spanish because illegal criminals from Mexico don't feel they should learn the language of the country they're ripping off.

But my FAVORITE is you ripping US streets, hospitals, schools etc ad nauseum. I want to thank you to no end for that. Because you have just proved what all us anti-illegal latinos have been saying all along: you are greedy and ungrateful. You have the freaking audacity to COMPLAIN about systems Americans built and paid for that your people STEAL by coming in here and demanding those services. Why the hell Prop 187 was never enforced isn't just a crime, it's a sin. Why don't you just wear a t-shirt that says "Yes, we are as greedy, lazy, ungrateful and selfish as you think we are. And if you don't like it, leave YOUR country". Screw that "humane solution" - round them up & walk them out for all I care. What I've seen this week makes me want to puke all over all of you.

How dare you come into my country and screw it up and then BITCH about what YOU screwed up?

Who in the hell is stupid enough to "invest" in the illiterate, itinerate population of a banana republic???

LAUSD is jam packed with retards who can't even read or write in THEIR ON LANGUAGE!!! They will bleed our economy dry as the multiply and multiply.

Mexico has imported nothing but thier poverty, crime, illiteracy, disease and third world population.
You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

THESE MORON KIDS EVEN THOUGHT CESZR CHAVEZ IS THEIR HERO!!! THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW THAT HE FOUGHT AGAINST ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION TO PRESERVE THE WAGES OF THE MEXICAN MIGRANT FARM WORKERS. THAT 'S HOW STUPID THERE ARE!!!

Taco Villa has a 1.4 gpa and couldn't even pass the bar after 4 tries. He can't string two sentences together.
