Chris Arellano's campaign has responded to the allegations made by Adolfo Guzman Lopez on KPCC and reported by LAObserved and the Jewish Journal.

To my eyes, it scarcely looks like the kind of "fudging" Guzman Lopez insinuated. I think Guzman Lopez should re-evaluate his source for the story---plainly he didn't check with the Arellano camp itself before running with it.

Christopher Arellano dropped out of school in 8th grade in Phoenix, AZ.
After moving to Los Angeles, Christopher attended Los Angeles City College (LACC) from 1992-1995.
Christopher received his Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in Theater Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2000. The administrative detail that had caused this degree to be placed “on hold” has been addressed and this information will be available after 4pm today.
Christopher attended the University of Southern California (USC) from 2001-2005 in the School of Social Work and the School of Policy, Planning, and Development as part of a dual degree program.
He has completed all requirements for his MSW (Masters in Social Work).
Christopher has also passed his comprehensive exams for the Masters in Policy, Planning, and Development. However, there is still one semester of coursework in this area that needs to be completed before USC will officially confer the dual degree.
Christopher graduated from the dual degree program in May 2005. See photo attached.
Christopher Arellano completed his entire college and post-graduate education while working full-time.
Christopher has also earned training certificates in the following:

Substance Abuse and Domestic Violence

You either have it or you don't...completing all course requirements for MSW and still needs one more semester of course work for dual masters means you don't have the diploma.

Based on his statement today, this is simply a lie.
Two degress short of absolute zero.
Completing course work and graduating are not at all the same. "Fudging" is completely accurate considering Arrellano's statement.
I suppose it's easy to have an "inspiring" story if you make it up.
Until you post his diplomas, there is no reason to believe he is a graduate of anything.

No one knew who Monica was or cared and they loved the fact that Chris has done positive things working with the youth. That said, I'm really stunned that Guzman Lopez decided to swallow bait here and slime the guy on such a hair-splitting matter, apparently without asking for any explanations from the candidate himself, and certainly without reporting the technicalities. He made we who routinely believe him look foolish for much of the day.
I mean, whichever side you're on, you have to admit that the hairs were split far more finely than reported by Guzman, Roderick, and the Jewish Journal.
I used to think that when Guzman Lopez reported something, it was fairly certain---which is why I, having endorsed Arellano myself, raised the issue in the first place. Now I'm not so sure that Guzman Lopez plays so even-handedly.
Whoever wins and loses Tuesday will be Tuesday's news; but journalists feigning objectivity while playing into last-minute partisan stunts like this one risk breaching confidence with their audiences going forward.
Arellano is literally a liar and a thief.

Yes, indeed parents want someone like Chris who he admitted made mistakes and who out there hasn't. The fact that he worked with the youth is what its all about. He's a very caring soul and that's why sooooooooo many people are now gravitating towards him. too bad Antonio, Jose and Monica Garcia had to resort to these negative attacks. I hope that Arellano is able to get some positive press about how close to the wire that "he doesn't have degrees" call is. I "graduated" before I finished my degree (I needed two or three more classes). It's too bad he didn't have this response ready to go before this "dirt" got released to the public (if you can call dragging yourself out of a bad situation and getting an education "dirt").

i've only met Christopher once so i can't say i really know him. i can say this. my first impression was "this person is a little crazy."
I don't think this is going to hurt Chris. The fact that he even went to USC and UCLA is an accomplishment when most of our students aren't even graduating. He made some mistakes but he's running for a school board seat because he cares about the kids. I heard last night at meetings this is not going to hurt him. Antonio, Monica and Jose all have such a bad reputation in Dictrict 2 they don't want another puppet. Tuesday will be interesting for sure.

Let me edumacate you my friend.
We latinos come from society who has "low expectations for us" to enroll and attend college.
In our homes we view Chris as a bright beacon of hope for our youth. The recent actions of your team will cause many Latino families reminders of how society targets & hampers other's success.
It doesn't matter he missed a 2nd degree by x amount of credits. What matters is he overcame challenges in life, graduated high school and went to college.
If he can duplicate what he did with our children, we will be gratified.
2nd degree? Who cares. I'm happy he recieved a HS Diploma and went to college with one degree completed! Most of our Latino youth won't even make it past 9th grade. Huizar was in his position for years and drop out rate increased, and this under Monica's help. These people didn't sing the Drop Out rate problem song until parents began to complain after Harvard STudy came out to light. So you see, the only one that cares are those in the field who work with kids. Don't bring me a degree but no backbone in experience to back it up. Monica has experience and that is to create higher drop out rates!
If you know Arellano "personally" then tell us your name - it is omly fair - for all we know you could be monica's hairdresser.
