I expect to run for mayor again for the 2009 election. Whether I do or don't run, however, I plan to stay informed on local public policy issues, and try to figure out the best solutions for various problems.
Anybody know when the Republican Nat'l Comm. is getting going to endorse Padilla? Because he sure as hell isn't getting any Democratic Party endorsements.
I also hear there has been a record # of Dem. clubs popping up in CD 7. Can anybody verify this?

The RNC might not endorse Padilla, but if Padilla gives LA County Lincoln Clubs Treasuer Doug Boyd, husband of LA County GOP Chairman Linda Boyd, a high paying campaign consulting job, then maybe Padilla can get the endorsement of the Lincoln Club and the LA County GOP leadership. Heck, it worked for Mayor Hahn- why not not Alex?

Maybe he didn't realize that, when he became a City Councilman in July 2003, his job duties included not just campaigning for higher office, but voting on the City's budget, as well. These areas are in need of political diversity. What happens in these districts when a constituent discloses they're Republican?
Walter, maybe if you had Parke as your consultant and if your father was an alcoholic and if your were a high school drop out, maybe you'd have chance. Oh wait, Parke doesn't do white men, just minorities, women, gays and lesbians.
But you've got to hand it to Parke, he took every conceivable negative Latino sterotype and turned it into a succesful campaign platform. And for the record, Antonio's father was never really an alcoholic. After Antonio's mom and him seperated, he went on to have a 35+ year marriage and raised four college educated, professional Latinos. But that doesn't look to good on a campaign brochure when you want your candidate to play the victim.

Good luck in that slander suit. Three different L.A. Times reporters tracked down Antonio Villar Sr., but he didn't want anything to do with the campaign, or his first born for that matter. Antonio has never come to grips with his father's departure and this has cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars in therapy. But you can't really blame Antonio, Antonio Sr. not only divorced his mom, but the family also. Once Antonio Sr. started a new family he named his frist born from that family, Antonio Jr. - effectively wiping the first Antonio Jr. off his list. This is what the Parke brochure should have focused on. Now we know why he changed his name.

My vote will not be wasted I would rather vote for candidate who overcomes challenges, rather than waste it on Political favors.

Alvin Parra worked here. So did Lucille Allard, before she took her father's name again - Roybal. She was an accountant at this firm. Alatorre, Polanco, Art Torres - they have all been sucking on this teat. Has the unemployment rate in Boyle Heights improved - NO, business ownership, none to speak of. To 8:57 a.m.: the Republican Party in L.A. County is not serious about winning elections or improving people's lives. It's more of a cocktail party.
As for overcoming hardships, EVERYONE has overcome hardships. That's life. Voters should focus not on a candidate's childhood, but instead on a candidate's specific proposals for solving problems, in my opinion.

Ludlow had been Contreras’ political director at the Fed before he ran for the council; Miguel was particularly good at promoting his protégés. Ludlow’s predecessor as Fed political director had been Fabien Nunez, whose election to the state assembly Contreras had helped engineer. Even then, when Nunez was still a candidate, Contreras told me that Nunez could and would become Speaker early on in his tenure; that liberals would need a champion after Senate leader John Burton was termed out and that Nunez would be up to the job.
Anaon you forget that there are leaks EVERYWHERE. One person hears something then tells another and they always say "don't tell anyone" or this is extremely confidential" however, the leaks still get out. Antonio's inner circle isn't as loyal as he thinks they are. Too many people in city hall can't stand eachother let alone their own bosses so gossip and true facts get out. I read some true facts on this thread. Hope to read them in the paper this weekend.
