La Opinion picks up MayorSam chat, publishes as news

Well, it's the east side. You knew they'd think of something.

Look at the molotov cocktail the Antonio axis threw into the School Board race this morning.

La Opinion stooges for Antonio

I don't know that this will weigh a lot on the race. Bringing up drunk driving charges at the last minute seemed to backfire against Al Gore in 2000. Last minute stripclub stuff in the LA Times seemed to help Boxer against Herschensohn in 1992. In the end, only a tiny percentage of the electorate seems malleable to last minute highjinks, which always carry the faint air of desperation, as there's no gauging in whether voters will be more inclined to blame the accused or the opportunist accusor.

But hey, if this doesn't stick the way they'd like it to, maybe the Mayor could press the press the police to get Christopher arrested when he knocks on more doors in Boyle Heights this weekend?

At any rate and in any language, chalk up another "scoop" to MayorSam comments, where such chat has been floating for the past week.

I think more than anything, this shows what bad shape Monica's campaign is in that the must resort to this. That being said, I think Chris is seriously wounded. Two convictions and psychiatric is no JOKE.

I'm casting my vote for Ana.

Incredibly lame attempt to spin this on your part, Mailander. I just read about this this morning. Arellano has a rap sheet that extends to 2004, when he had his name changed. You won't even give us the facts to make a minimal judgment for ourselves.

Mayor Sam, you know very well why you fished this story on this blog.

Why post it?

Antonio Villaraigosa favor. You can tell me I'm wrong, that Chief Parker the "ex blogger" is no longer here, or that you are republican. It does not change the fact this site is manipulated by the Dems at City Hall.

Joe Ramallo sent this story to LA OPINION, VIA ALTERNATIVE METHODS. Have you seen the fantastic response students have towards Arellano, or for that fact fantastic fundraising results so far?

The Villaraigosa aka Skelton team had to plant the story, desperation. So far the candidates they represent have one with lies, planted lies, and union money, fake political workers, and city employees on the clock who campaigned in last elections. The LAUSD buses used for Huizar campaign, DWP workers paid OT for Villaraigos campaign, and Garcia uses school grounds for political speeches and recruitment.

Arellano, ask around. You can plant all the signs you want on Garcia, but Arellano is a legitimate representative who isn't compromised to political favors or LAUSD/Meruelo/Villaraigosa Cover up

Here's the story:

This is just Monica Lozano kissing Antonio's ass once again. Is it any wonder La Opinion is a joke. The largest Latino market outside of Mexico City and what is the circulation of this paper - 100,000, if that.

Why didn't Monica Lozano report on Antonio's criminal history. She had all the documents and facts. In 2002 a Political Action Committee bought a full page ad detailing Fabin Nunez's criminal record. It was bought and paid for and set to run before Monica Lozano pulled it. The check was returned with no explanation.

Wonder why we got all these bozo Latino politicians, look no further than this bozo paper and thier bozo publisher. Didn't Monica Lozano get appointed by Antonio to some commission?

New Details of Ludlow Investigation Revealed

By Patrick McGreevy and Steve Hymon, Times Staff Writers

Akili, currently a political organizer for SEIU Local 1000, has previously worked for other Democratic candidates, including as a paid campaign consultant for Villaraigosa's unsuccessful 2001 campaign for mayor.

Ludlow also reported paying Akili $1,000 for "campaign consultant" services in 2003.

Asked if Ludlow played a role in getting campaign helpers hired at Local 99, Ludlow attorney Stephen Kaufman said, "I'd prefer not to comment on a matter that is still pending."
On Thursday it emerged that key witnesses in the case have been longtime Democratic political workers, including an elected school board member and a former campaign consultant for Mayor Antonio Villaraigos

Political advertising on Spanish-language TV has tripled in the last three years, according to estimates from the TNSMI-Campaign Media Analysis Group, an organization that tracks campaign ads. Statewide, campaigns spent $2.2 million for spots on Spanish-language TV in 2003. That number more than doubled to nearly $5.3 million in 2004, and reached a record high of $7.3 million this year.

Parke Skelton, who was the lead consultant for Antonio Villaraigosa's
mayoral campaigns in 2001 and 2005, says that in 2001, Spanish-language
advertising was "a luxury we couldn't afford."

"Univision is not cheap," says Skelton. "Rates on it are as high or higher
than on English language media, which is why it is not always a great buy
because at least half of the viewership are not able to vote."

The Villaraigosa campaign, which overwhelmingly won the Latino vote this
year, spent only 10 percent of its media budget on Spanish-language
television, even though Latinos were Villaraigosa's base and comprised more
than 20 percent of the electorate.

"It is an allocation game," says Skelton.

-Parke Skelton said, "There is nothing illegal about taking contributions from any of these people. It would be
impossible to run a political campaign" without accepting contributions from people or businesses that have interests in the city. All three campaigns expressed surprise that the coalition had not mentioned Wachs as a recipient of campaign funds from City Hall lobbyists and interests.

"The Villaraigosa campaign was truly a 21st-century campaign, spanning languages, ages, and geographies," says campaign strategist Parke Skelton of SG&A Campaigns, the general consultant for the Villaraigosa campaign. "The Internet played an important part in our efforts to get Antonio’s message into the community, and also raised a lot of money. No modern campaign should be without it."

"We don't play any role in Sacramento," Skelton said of SG&A. "We don't do any lobbying as a matter of course. We don't get involved in leadership fights. I am just trying to avoid potential conflicts of interest."

In fact, Skelton's sphere of nfluence is so far from Sacramento that one long-time Skelton client, Assemblywoman Jenny Oropeza, turned to Richie Ross for informal advice in her bid for speaker in late 2003.

The story, as Oropeza told it, was that the contest had whittled down to Oropeza and Nuñez. She and Nuñez met at the Burbank Hilton in early November and Nuñez agreed to back her bid for speaker, in return for the Assembly's No. 2 post, majority leader.

Don't you get it? This IS Antonio's baggage. Ludlow is a born and bred Villaraigosa operative - from the moment he landed in L.A.. You don't think Fabian Nunez - the other politcal director at the County Fed - did the same thing? You don't think Cindy Montanez is benefitting from the same illegal contributions right now? Or for that matter Huizar and Monica Garcia. There is a pattern here - just investigate anybody who's received the combined endorsements of Villaraigosa, Nunez and Ludlow and who have Skelton as thier consultant. Pretty easy formula to follow. For any fed prosecutor, this is a career maker.

Sooner or later one of these "ghost workers" or "ghost voters" was going to get popped for domestic abuse, drunk driving, drug possession or some other calamity that tends to afflict labor folk in disproportianate numbers. And right when the prosecutor says I've got you for 5 years the "ghost" will say, "hey, I've got a story for you if you can knock that sentence down to five months." What amateurs!

Nunez Fibs About Nonprofits Political Activity

For reporters who attended Speaker Fabian Nunezs press conference today and were told by the Speaker that Voter Improvement Program (VIP) - which pays Nunez about $35,000 a year for providing strategic advice to VIP about voter trends and demographic patterns (Los Angeles Times, March 21, 2005) does not participate in political activity like phone banking, here are the facts.

Voter Improvement Program will not expend funds to influence or attempt to influence the action of voters, or expressly advocate for or against the nomination or election of a candidate or candidates for public office. (ARTICLES OF INCORPORATION OF VOTER IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM, A California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation, Filed in the office of the Secretary of State Oct. 16, 2002)

Form 990, filed with IRS, indicates VIP is a 501(c) (4) and is related through common membership, governing bodies, trustees, officers to Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.

The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor paid VIP for phone banking services for the following candidates: (California Form 460, Schedule E, 10/01/00 10/21/00)

Dario Frommer
Barry Gordon
Scott Wildman
Jackie Goldberg Jerome Horton

MEMBERSHIP COMMUNICATION NOTIFICATIONS FILED WITH THE CITY ETHICS COMMISSION FOR CANDIDATES FOR CITY ELECTIVE OFFICE, Primary Election, March 4, 2003 indicates that VIP did quite a bit of phone banking on behalf of local candidates in Los Angeles.

Support, Martin Ludlow, Phone Bank 2/25/2003 Support, Martin Ludlow, Phone Banks to Union Members 2/13 & 2/20
Support, Martin Ludlow, Voice Blast message to Union Members 2/17& 2/18
Support, Martin Ludlow, Phone Bank Usage Calls made 2/11/03
Support, Antonio Villaraigosa, Phone banks to Union Members 2/18 & 2/20 Support, Antonio Villaraigosa, Voice Blast message to Union Members 2/17 & 2/18

The Speaker has a growing credibility problem. He is taking money from an organization that does not disclose its financial contributors, though we know from a Los Angeles Times article that at least three major oil companies are contributing to the nonprofit. How many other big corporations with business before the Speaker are contributing to VIP and directly or indirectly putting money into Nunezs pocket? And what will Nunez do about it? Here are a couple of unsuccessful approaches to dealing with scandal that Nunez may want to avoid.

A) Claim ignorance: "I didn't ask, I didn't want to know, it didn't seem appropriate," he said when asked why he did not inquire further. (Kevin Shelley speaking the to San Francisco Editorial Board, August 26, 2004)

B) Pretend youre sick: Embattled Secretary of State Kevin Shelley said Thursday his recurring problems with anger are due in part to the chronic neck pain he suffers as the result of a 1986 diving accident in the Russian River. (Sacramento Bee, August 27, 2004)

C) Be a martyr: "While I have made errors that I deeply regret, I have never, ever done so with the intent of subverting the law or of benefiting myself,'' he said. (Kevin Shelleys resignation speech, San Francisco Chronicle, February 5, 2005) ** In Nunezs case, of course, he is directly and personally benefiting from VIPs political activity.

The regulation of unions has long been the domain of the federal government. ...Labor unions have complained that they are being singled out and constrained in a way that their natural opponents, the business community, are not. Such protests have only increased under President Bush, some legal scholars say.

GOOD OL' POST

I bet Parke Skelton is wishing right now that Antonio had passed the bar. When Antonio ran against Nick in 2003, he benefitted much more from "ghost" union funds and workers. So much more that labor leaders got on Contreras case to help out Ludlow in his race - which was going on at the same time. This is how labor, under Contreras - operated, there is a long paper trail. Wait until everything comes out, Antonio will be offered a pleas bargain also.

Just to correct 2:04 PM. Gill Cedillo was the only true Labor official and he predates this mess.
Antonio was a labor rep for UTLA.
Fabian was was a consultant with One Stop(famous for the Mexican flagged anti-187 march to downtown LA)and the Utility Workers 132 campaign against the Gas Company when the Gas Company trie to replace its' clerks.
Martin worked for Ophelia McFadden at 434B SEIU before it became a behemoth and then ran for City Council w/o Union blessing in 87 or 89, went back to school and became SEIU western region director briefly ( the job Bill Lloyd had before his girlfriends' Local SEIU 99 got Trusteed and he was appointed trustee of it)before hitching his wagon to Antonio's star. Akili was around all of this and the name you don't here is Warren Furatani who may be clean as the driven snow but was companero to all. FYI

Multi-Lingual Madness ~ Gov't 'Aids and Abets' Illegal Aliens (Part 6 of 8)

By Daneen G. Peterson, Ph.D.
March 2, 2006

Then there is the 'MEChA Boy' -- Aztlander Antonio Villaraigosa . . .

Recently, Villagraigose "chose to emit his message [giving the Democrat response to President Bush's state of the Union address] specifically in Spanish, and by doing so he sent a clear signal of his chosen tribal identity (and not just the accident of his birth). That may help him with his vote bank, but it will not help his city [Los Angeles]. Ultimately, it will distance his primarily Mexican-American audience from their neighbors, including other immigrants. Is that what the mayor and his friends want? Perhaps."(8)

"When we choose to exploit the natural diversity within us and base political identities on them--as Mr. Villaraigosa has done (and as every Anglo politician does when he mangles Spanish on the stump)--we widen manageable differences into unbridgeable chasms."(8)

So beautifully said. So true, unvarnished and clearly spoken by a first-generation migrant [hopefully a legal immigrant] to America. Sublimely stated by an author who is apparently blessed with an extraordinary gift of prose.

As for the damning article in this weeks J.J. - the crumbs are right

Politicians and Unions Target Charitable Organizations
Written by Fernando Oaxaca

http://www.chronwatch.com/featured/contentDisplay.asp?aid=2939&mode=print

"Without warning or previous rumors, in the spring of 2002, the board of directors of this charitable foundation was notified by staff that the child care centers in Los Angeles had been targeted for unionization by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 99 of Los Angeles. Union demands flowed into MAOF: demands for names, home addresses, home telephone numbers of employees. Union organizers wanted the right to visit the child care centers during working hours; employees were accosted on the way to or as they left their young charges.

Enter the politicians. Assemblywoman Judy Chu, (D) Monterey Park, while this disruptive activity at MAOF was ongoing, telephoned the director of the Foundation, delivering what was, in effect, a thinly veiled "encouragement" to cooperate with union access and organizing requests (veiled by such rhetoric as "the need for fair treatment of workers" and an honest concern for "the well-being of the community."

" Putting aside why, with this annual income, they need the measly $110K from a charitable foundation¹s low income employees, the path of the money begins with the trip from the taxpayer's pocket to Sacramento and Washington. Then from the IRS and the State Franchise Tax Board bureaucrats it goes to Gray Davis' bureaucrats; then from Gray Davis & Co. it goes to MAOF. From MAOF it converts to a paycheck for the child care instructors (with income tax, FICA, the SEIU union dues and SDI taken out); then to SEIU from collector MAOF. MAOF's $9,100 per month is added to the tens of millions of dollars sent by employer dues collectors to the various offices or bank accounts of the SEIU. Finally, part of it is then disbursed as political donations to people like Assemblywoman Chu, Congresswoman Solis and, to two new players in our drama, State Assemblyman Fabian Nuñez, (D) Los Angeles and Senator Martha Escutia (D) from eastern Los Angeles.

Just days ago, on May 22nd of 2003, at 11:55 AM a FAX came to MAOF from Assemblyman Fabian Nuñez (D) 46th Assembly District, exhorting MAOF to get off the stick and settle the legal issues delaying the signing of a final contract with the SEIU 99 union representatives."
