What's Up In CD14?
Each day for the next several days, we're going to ask "What's up?" in a given Council District. What are the issues for 2006, what are your predictions, who are the players and where will any shake-outs, shake-ups or shakedowns occur?Of course we have to start with our best customers and begin with CD14. With a new Councilman now in place, 2006 could be a very interesting year for this District. Cut and paste away, dum dums.

Huizar's congratulatory billboards are up. The one on Valley has been officially welcomed into the neighborhood judging from all the graffiti on the sign. You should get a picute of this one Mayors, if anybody can translate Cholo, there is some pretty derogatory stuff Huizar's face.
The only thing up in the air in CD 14 is the concpet of law. How can Huizar give a well paying job to an illegal immigrant like Valdivia? The press should also check Valdivia's activism in Mexico - there's a reason he fled that country - and poverty isn't it.

Who is Valdivia? Who did he work for before Huizar?
Valdivia worked for L.A. Metro before - that's the labor font that was charged with bringing out the Latino vote for Villariagosa. L.A. Metro was totally funded by the L.A. County Federation of Labor under the guise of community empowerment. Community Empowerment didn't occur but they sure did fool the community with Tony the Liar.
After this stint he worked for Fr. Estrada from Jovenes, Inc., and he was in charge of swindling money from Nick Pacheco and the City of L.A.. In fact, Valdivia was a paid - under the table - organizer for the Pacheco 2003 campaign. This is the same priest who vouched for Villaraigosa's kid when he applied to Loyola High School.
Valdivia brags about his involvement in the 1968 Taltelolco massacre of college students protesting the Olympic in Mexico - the mexican army killed over 500 students. If Valdivia were involved he'd would have to have been around 4 years old!
Check his papers, he's not here legally - he used to brag about this also.
Where exactly in the Valley is this Huizar billboard located? Do tell...I took a few years of Cholo, so I might be able to decipher the writing.

The most damning information about Valdivia has been excluded:
He's known as "El Padre de la Chupacabra." He used to illegally breed chupacabras for "Friday night fights" - a gruesome exibition where the vicious animals would fight to the death, much like cock fighting. The ring was broken up by authorities, but not before things went terribly wrong and many chupacabras were accidentally released into the wild only to violently prey on innocent farm goats.

People need to ask why Gustavo Valdiva is in city hall and not a field office. What was he promised. These staffers are Antonio people not Jose's. I don't see one Jose person on the list. Thank god they got rid of Lisa "Gabbage Patch" Sarno and what happened to Paul "Urkel" Hernandez?

Jose had endorsed the 250 lbs. albatross known as Monica Garcia. I respect his loyalty, but I question his decision to urge her to run. Perhaps Monica will spend her time on the Board (assuming she gets there) covering up Jose's lack of progress on issues important to District 2.
Alvin Parra, He took the words neighborhood council empowerment to a higher level, and streamline the by laws of the neighborhood council. He named himself the president of El Sereno Neighborhood Council LA32, and ousted the elected president, just like Castro in Cuba. Castro would be very proud. Either Alvin didn't understand the bi-laws or he can't read. When Mr. Nelson from District Attorney attempted to explaine to Alvin that his process was not correct and he would have to give back the presidency to the elected president. Alvin's responce was, "Thank you for your recommendation Mr. Nelson, however, is just a recommendation", How was Alvin Parra able to do this, without regards to bi-laws, or the people of El Sereno? Yes we got the message, is not about who was elected by the people, but who has the support from the powers that be.
Stop blaming the staff of AV or Huizar, or anyone else, the staff represents, acts, and do like their bosses. You see the attitude of the employees, and you see the attitude of the powers that be.

The Boyle Heights council is headed up and run by Monica Harmon who lives out side of the 14th Dist.

Know your facts before you speak. Monica IS NOT ON THE BOYLE HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCIL. They have a good prez Robert Jimenez and is one of the largest citywide and one of the best.

Also, the biggest issue Jose has to face is the illegal vendors in CD14. What is he going to do to control them now even though Antonio has supported them in the past?

True on both accounts, if Jose does something else after four years...
I think Jose is headed to State Assembly at the earliest possible chance, maybe even two years from now. Goldberg's termed out in the 45th and Chavez is going to win and subsequently probably encounter a lot of trouble because she has some sincere convictions in the animal rights department, which will become political baggage in two years' time.
There's a reason Arellano begged off of the race with Chavez; it was politically astutue to do so. 2006 will be a big year nationwide for animal rights, and Chavez with that name and that cause and that Union pedigree will attract money even at a national level next year. But by 2008 there will be a big backlash by the carnivores among us, and for sure CD14 won't care much at all about the issue. Door's open for Jose in 2008, and I think he will be a better Assemblyman than Councilman--it seems a more natural fit for him. Also, Jose won with direct mail, and you need direct mail to win an Assembly race even more than to win a Council race.
POOR, poor Alvin. He can "set himself up: all he wants, he's tried twice before, and both times the AV posse had told him to shut up, sit down, and do their dirty work -- for leftovers, of become a non-entity to the district powerbase.
And he said "yes, sir" and whimpered away.
And THEY will again, and he will again, and there will always be a more promising candidate for AV to endorse to CM than Alvin, the "Homer Simpson of L.A. Politics."
His tombstone will say "I coulda been a councilmemba!"
Who will be running to replace Molina? Isn't she termed out this year? I thought Jose was going to hire Crystal Arceo who is a very smart young lady. I agree with Mailander that Jose will be a much better Assemblyman. The next 6 months will really tell the district if he was meant to be CM.

Villaraigosa only had one bitter rival watching his every move and mouthing off about his failure to perform after he won the CM spot in CD14.
Huizar has about a half-dozen -- all pissed off that Westside money and a Getty-housed, Hancock Parked mayor bought the election for Jose.
Clarification; Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council's president is Robert Jimenez, well respected by the council and by Boyle Heights community. This neighborhood council is one of the largest in the city, and one of the best run council, most active in the community.
Boyle Heights is not El Sereno, El Sereno has its own Neighborhood Council call LA32NC, previous president was Richard Acosta, ousted by Alvin Parra without election or recall.

We have had some problems in LA32NC, but we are getting it together. Politically true, that Alvin Parra and Monica Harmon are the only ones that can use the list serves as blogs. Is she the one running for LAUSD BD to replace Jose?
NO Monica Garcia is running for LAUSD. Monica H. sends news items only to e-mail group Alvin Parra is on another planet.
Were is Jose Huizar, did someone forgot to tell him that his job extents beyond sitting at the council meetings. Maybe it does not, since there is not job description for a councilmen's job or responsibilities.
Give Jose a little time, it has only been two months since the election, and I am sure he was planning for the run off, it took everyone by surprise.
Did Valdivia vote? If he did, he is either a good citizen or he broke every law in the books. If he did not vote, he is just an illegal or a bad citizen, no big deal in LA.
However, how many latinos are question every day whether they are legal or not, just because they are latinos, eventhough they are born in the USA.
Normally, people that ask are not latinos.
