Storm Watch 2006 - Up to our Heads in Water

Or at least that is what officials at the DWP are thinking this morning after reading this headline:

DWP Pays to Drink Sparkletts -- L.A.'s supplier of tap water accounts for more than a third of the city money spent on the bottled variety.

Not exactly the ringing endorsement of their product they have been pitching. The lead graphs say it all:
Despite spending $1 million in the last two years to assure Los Angeles residents that their tap water is not only safe to drink but also top quality, city officials spent $88,900 in public money during that time on bottled water from private firms.

The Department of Water and Power, which supplies the city's water and promotes it, spent the most on bottled water, paying $31,160 to Sparkletts.
Good to see we are ringing in 2006 the same way we left 2005. As long as we are reaching back in to the way-back machine, maybe they should call in Fleishman-Hillard to help with this PR disaster.

Why didn't Chick report the other findings of DWP? I want to know how many millions of dollars are transferred to the general fund.

Dumb Cynthia Ruiz, glad she dyed her hair brown not to sound blonde....The city Public Works Department was the second-biggest consumer of bottled water, paying more than $21,600 to Danone and Arrowhead for bottled water used in offices and in the field.

The department's bills, including $141 spent by the Board of Public Works itself, could not be explained by board President Cynthia Ruiz.

"That is a good question. Let me look into it and give you a call back," Ruiz said. She did not call back.

Antonio and city council really tried to play this down throughout all the news cast. Either way it looks bad for a city like LA who is suppose to be $250 million deficit wasting money on water from the water company. Go figure!!!
