CD 14 Up to the Minute Results:
This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

The polls are now closed.

Where can we get the latest poll numbers?
Lakers win 103, Atlanta 97
Whoops. Guess Huizar's gonna kick Pacheco's ass!
8:04 p.m.
You're high on Arceo and Sanchez by about half, low on Heckmann and De Vera by about the same, and the big two will be closer (within 3-4 points), but the order is correct.
My polling place closed. I arrived late. sorry huizar, I tried.
Pachueco is pretty good at putting his lawn signs on street posts, vacant land, fire hydrants, construction crew trucks and stuff. The guy's people are pretty ruthless with those signs gotta hand it to them, they kicked ass breaking the law all over the place
Go easy on yourself, Sleazy don't know and don't care.
In my "hood" every Pacheco, De Vera, and Heckmann sign was on a residents' lawn, every Huizar and Sanchez, was posted illegally.
Over at Sam Yorty's America starting to get numbers on the LA County vote for the statewide props.
Many Icelandic ages ago, this was posted by me, Nordic Lover...
I still stand by it.

L.A. Times is SO slow at getting numbers up; what dinosaurs.
Pretty inconclusive when the MEATPACKER has 3 percent so far.
We're covering this more in depth at Sam Yorty's America, but here is a current statewide recap of the state meaures (y=yes is winning, n=no is winning)
73 Y Minor's Pregnancy
74 Y Teacher Tenure
75 Y Public Union Dues
76 N Spending/Funding
77 N Redistricting
78 N Rx Drug Discounts
79 N Rx Drug Rebates
80 N Electric Regulation
Oh Shit. I voted wrong. I got confused with the Y thing and voted no.
8:42 Did you get a butterfly ballot?
Mayor Frank / Brian;
So, let's see, you're prediction was that Huizar's vote was soft and that it "would be a lot closer than everyone one thought."
Oooops.
Well, since Pacheco's base was Republicans and thus likely to be over-represented in the AVs I figure it can only get worse for your guy from here. Wait til the vote starts rolling in from Boyle Heights.
And Brian "omly the absentees" as you put it, is around 6,000 votes -- probaby about a quarter of the total. A pretty good sample, wouldn't you say?
And, as well, the person whose predictions were so abysmally incorrect should not be challenging anyone's IQ.
Pacheco's base is REPUBLICAN?
Are you whacked. In what world has anyone ever said that. Pacheco paid for some slate mailers to try a WOO some GOP votes away from Huizar (who was pumping heavily the RIORDAN link).
Go back and dig something better than that out of your ass.
Plus the GOP guy (only real one) has less than 7 percent. I think you're working off 1960s "GOP vote absentee" history lessions, not today's reality.
Let them get their hopes up, MF... when he drops way below 50 in the end, they'll fall to pieces.
Another 3 MONTHS of campaign, and NO new slime to pump at Pacheco. Huizar sitting in the Jimmy Hahn seat trying to find some new dirt on the opponent.
Seriously, that's a high as Huizar gets. All those votes were cast BEFORE the hit mailers against him by the also-rans, when he was about the only candidate getting into peoples mailboxes.
Boy, even with reality staring you in the face, you refuse tto accept it.
And I'm not taking manners lessons from the adminstrator of this smear sheet of a blog. This entire piece of shit forum is based on nothing but snide character assassination and irresponsible rumor-mongering. Go be self-righteous somewhere else.
"Don't have anything factual to spout? Lets go straight to the trash."
That's funny Brian. This blog is so obviously about "facts."
You hurt his "feelings" MF, Huizaristas, like AV-lovers are all about "feelings"...
Remeber the exit poll quotes after the Mayor's race ... "I just FEEL like AV would be a good mayor."
FIGHT FIGHT, a dead mayor and an Anon.
(Doesn't quite have that poetic ring to is, does it, not like grade school chants).
Prop 80 Fails - and Statewide Numbers
http://samyortysamerica.blogspot.com/
No new numbers yet in CD10 or 14. State is counting their ballots far faster.
Thus ends the shortest political comeback ever: Nick Pacheco's.
Mr. P, I think of all the loyal, intelligent, capable people you screwed over and I am not shocked at your loss. Eric Hagopian, Henry Losano, Mike Gato, Liberty Mesa. These people could have been very valuable to you.
Weren't you even at some point friends with Parke Skelton himself?
Good "doctoring" there Eagle-rockhead - pronounce the patient dead before he even has a fever.
No one if "friends" with Skeleton. He has clients and opponents.... no "friends."
Mayor Sam or Frank or any anon-
I'm new to this election stuff we had today. What ballots have been counted, almost all of them or just absentee? When do we have a total tonight or tomorrow?
I'm confused thanks.
Huizar/Skelton ran a professional campaign, Pacheco did not.
Nick, you ought to thank Jose for picking up 1500 votes for you with his VBM program. Otherwise, you might be lower than Arceo right now!
Anybody who doesn't realize this is over already is deluding himself.
Good job collecting trash, though. If you've still got the cans, maybe you ought to look for your career in there...
If it really is over, then youare absoluely the worst "winner" on the planet dude... your trash talk suggests nervousness (and poor breeding), not the confidence of a win.
'Why can't you win with the grace and dignity with which I lose?'
Why don't you call another whiny press conference, send out another pathetic press release.
New targetedcommunications poll idea.
Whose night will be worse, Schwarzenegger or Pacheco?
Oh, yeah, Schwarzenegger is still in office. Nevermind.
After months of mostly avoiding this blog (unable to support Huizar's candidacy with anything more than "AV endorsed him") his camp has now graced Mayor Sam's with a designated election night taunter.
Too early, I predict run off election. Still too early, absentee counted anon...that is it.
"Wannabe" Huizarista... wasn't invited to the wrap party (too bad).
I don't want to sound Pauline Kaelish, but with all the calling and precinct walking, I couldn't find anyone who would actually confess to voting for Huizar.
Quite a few said they would never vote for Pacheco (and cited all the old slime - facts be damned), but no one said "HUIZAR IS MY MAN!"
I didn't 'avoid' this blog, I was too busy campaigning. Too bad your crew can't say the same.
Tonight I get to enjoy the fruits of my labours.
Hard work, it pays off!
Who's the wannabe huizarista...i got invited, but i have to wake up early and work. i think it was good enough that I voted.
AV's CD14 field staff must be counting these, themselves, at the mayor's mansion... no one half-way competent would take this long.
PLEASE, everyone that agreed to vote for Huizar today on the phone got "invited."
That'sjust the "fill-it-up" for the cameras game all sides play.
Mayor can you help me please...
I went to this site
http://rrccmain.co.la.ca.us/
and they claim 0% precincts reporting. so what are all those numbers we are getting?
Hey folks -- we've finally got a precinct in -- Jose at 51.3%
Mayor Sam,
I demand a live simulcast of the concession speech!
'Vote for Pedro and all of your wildest dreams will come true!'
Where do I get precinct reporting data?
If anyone has ANY faith that these numbers will hold up in some similar fashion, then you also have to believe that DIANA NEWBERRY, who barely showed in public forums, raised no money, and mailed nothing, is going to end up with many more votes that either Sanchez, Arceo, of Jimenez -- all of whom had budgets, (of some sort), mailers, volunteers, and made came to many public fora.
http: //rrccmain.co.la.ca.us/0035_CityContests_Frame.htm
10:26 This is why I am asking how this crap works. Where are these numbers coming from?
I want to know who's party I'm going to.
according to 10:27, nick's staff already has a job offer - they're going to need it.
10:28
All (early) absentees, so far, except for one small precinct counted. The absentees tallied so far could represent as much as 2/3 of the total mail-ins so far, but most would have been received and counted before today.
If this hangs around the 50 percent for too much longer (when we get around 40 precincts in, etc), we won't know tonight whether there's a runoff of not. It will take the counting of those received today and in the polling places to finalized it - one way or another.
Plus the late absentees may lean a different way than the earlier ones based on late mailings (attacks from several sides, on several players).
1.0% ( 21 of 2172 ) Los Angeles precincts reporting as of Nov 8, 2005 at 10:32 pm
What's this 'I predict a run-off' drivel?
What's this, Texas Hold'Em? 'All I need is a chip and a chair?'
The Pacheco camp better hope this ends tonight. The next couple of months will be very depressing otherwise.
1.0% ( 21 of 2172 ) Los Angeles precincts reporting as of Nov 8, 2005 at 10:32 pm
so you're calling the race because one precinct is in, and most of the abenstees and you boy is 1 perfcent over the 50 mark?
You're holding something, but it must be Antonios buts if you think an elction with 10 people in it can be called with ONE precinct in and 70 OUT.
10:37 -- right on the ball
It's not a question of if Jose will be elected, but when. The residents of CD 14 and all City taxpayers are better served if it ends tonight
You have to go to work early, deignated taunter. Nighty-nite. Try not to have nightmares of Jose having to spend 3 months defending the performance of one of the work-performing districts in LAUSD (one of the worst big city school systems in the country), as proof he's MAN enough to handle the rowdiest council district in L.A.
Sheriff Andy might as well be deputizing Opie, to cut down on crime.
If Huizar even wins at a run off. I'm putting my home up for sale. This city sucks. Bought up my Villaraigosa...hope your lungs collapse.
i'm colling the race because i'm cnn-onymous not cnn. in my experience this is over. wait till they count boyle heights, el sereno, glassell park. the numbers will get worse not better.
10:44 worst in what way and for who.
Hurry, I need sleep. Work at 3am.
Here's one Pacheco supporter itching for a one-on-one with AV's boy-toy. He's got nothing left in his arsenal to slime with, and Pacheco is a far better and more experienced campaigner .
This is as good as it's going to get Jose.
10:44, you should have spent your time giving that rap in the community, no voters read this shit. you do not campaign on a blog, you do it in the city. wasn't your campaign supposed to be 'grassroots'? bad planning, hard reality.
I agree 10:44 Huizar's numbers will slide down, 1 point for every 10 precincts, from here on out.
11 precincts now in and it's getting uglier for Nick
Jose -- 53.8
Nick -- 26.3
now huizar's up to 54. it's getting worse and worse. i tell you, it's all over.
go to bed, 10:48. i'm embarassed for you.
And the Pacheco camp gets pretty quiet
10:49 PM Where are you getting this data? I can't find it anywhere.
Still only 15 percent of precincts --- it you yahoos had been calling the mayors race like this, you'd have been saying "close one."
http://rrccmain.co.la.ca.us/
You anons must all be insiders "staffers, volunteers" because I don't know how this shit works and nobody gives a shit on explaining.
That was only a modest bump. Wait till we hit Boyle Heights. One of these days, BOOM, straight to the moon!
7:53 says 0% ????
Is anyone reporting individual precincts yet?
What do you want to know, 10:54?
Walter Mercado said run off
statewide 50% in -- prop 73 (50.6/49.4) and prop 75 (49.4/50.6) only real nail biters
10:57
Today I am proud to vote for the first time.
I want to know when will we know the results?
Where are the numbers they post here coming from?
How are some people getting the numbers so I can check too
Thank you.
For the latest totals (not precincts), go here:
http://rrccmain.co.la.ca.us/
click on "cities" in the bright red bar on the left...
THEN scroll down and click on the Los ANgeles city race you're interested in (like anyone cares about CD10).
Hit refresh very 15 minutes or so to see if they've updated.
If you can get that to work, thank a Pacheco supporter (we assist, Huizaristas taunt).
Here's the link, 10:59.
http://rrccmain.co.la.ca.us/
Go to city elections, go to cd14 unexpired seat.
Enjoy.
Precinct votes are being tallied as we blog.
Thank you 10:59
JOSE HUIZAR 53.71
NICK PACHECO 26.11

Who counts the ballots?
The Mayor's staff?
If it is the mayor's staff, this thing could go on until GroundHog's Day.
Question for political science majors.
1) Who are the ones that work at the polling places?
2) Is there a neutral county representative at each polling place?
3) Who counts the ballots for local city elections?
4) Is there any type of accountability?
Statewide 55% precints reporting
ALL PROPOSITIONS NOW TRAILING!
Mayor
The Diamond Bar election is what you call a real election, not this sissy shit from CD 14.
DIAMOND BAR CITY GEN MUNI - COUNCILMEMBER
Candidate Votes Percent
STEVE TYE 2,301 24.06
BOB ZIRBES 2,062 21.56
WEN CHANG 1,868 19.53
DEBBY OCONNOR 1,785 18.66
OSMAN WEI 1,549 16.19
This old, dead mayor is going to bed, but it looks like:
Arnold lost all his props, as well, all the other props have failed it looks like.
Prop Y will probably win. More dough for Roy Romer to play with.
Herb Wesson will spend a few months as CD10 Councilman. (What a surprise)
Jose will win outright.
All in all, a very bad day for LA and California.
Buddy, CD14 is keeping this blog alive. Take your Diamond Bar results elsewhere.
For a republican in a heavily indundated democratic area
Brian Heckmann is doing pretty good.
Democrats The Huizar & Pacheco catfight is not what you should fear, it is the Republicans gaining ground in Los Angeles.
We need to start a new blog that doesn't take sides...especially ones that end up being wrong..
Heckmann is at around 5 percent in a district with 2-3 times that many GOP percentage points.
I don't think the ashamed-to-call-myself-a-liberal progressives have too much to worry about here.
JOSE HUIZAR 7,313 53.92
NICK PACHECO 3,567 26.3
21 Precincts now in...
Both Huizar and Pacheco sent out "fake" GOP slate mailers to fool the less alert Republicans. It happens every time. I don't know what Heckmann was thinking 1) to even run, and 2) to actually tell people he was GOP. That's something you whisper to a handful of volunteers when you hand them the GOP calling sheets, not something you add to your nonpartisan race resume on the Eastside.
Proud Republican living in Los Angeles voted for Alvin Parra.
Good night mayor sweet dreams...
Hey Brian;
You got all pissed off when I called it for Huizar based on the AVs. Gee, must have been right. The Avs did favor Pacheco. Its over
Nighty-nite, Pacheco supporter signing off....
Good thing some of us have learned how to get things done with the council office's support (that's one thing to "thank" AV's braindead field staff for...
DAMN YOU PACHECO, for spoiling us with actual constituent service!
Amazing paradoxes that the party that favors big government can't get another Dem councilmember in here that can make it work for the people.
Pacheco is drawing dead.
Good deal.
Bad flop.
No help on the turn.
No help on the river.
Nick, what happened? How do you go from the nuts to this? And in only a few months?
Good night.
How the hell does the meatpacker chick keep ending up higher than three candidates who actually campaigned and mailed and worked the system.
Are there really that many socialist/anarchists around anymore? Nearly have as many votes as the only "outed"n Republican.
If that's true we should have 10 times as many beatnick coffe houses and "head" shops around as we do in CD14, I'm amazed.
If your amazed I'm still figuring out who counts these things.
Antonio, er I mean Jose, wins another election.
Apparently the mayor is mighty. What is he going to do... how is he going to blame lackluster performance the next couple years, like in CD14, when he has all his people lined up on City COuncil?
Sooner or later, the media has to just stop showing up at the photo-ops, then what?
They're already starting to nail him on gray squishies like the corporate jet.
The Pacheco people never wanted to believe that they were out of touch.
Even after some polls showed them losing they just wrote them off as not credible. What a pitty.
Now I can tell my students to lie, cheat, and steal. It will take you places.
Paid counters, who knows where they come from... there was a story in the Times just after the mayoral primary, but it would take some digging. They're supervised by county election workers, etc. The different camps can usually send observers if there's concern about funny business, but even with all the finger pointing last spring, nothing turned up suspect.
I want to know when the precincts show up. Pacheco had some heavy duty local leaders vouching for him, vs. Huizar's all CMs and elected officials from elswhere in the city.
Do you know what this means? Another Pacheco campaign in 18 months.
Second time in a row he's been blown out in a primary in this district.
11:34, this was always true in politics... now you just need lots of money, too. Your lies have to be repeated, daily.
The place where I voted, the people looked suspicious. Couple of voters in my home and they asked if the other ones "same surname" were voting?
I said, "no."
Big mistake, what if they inked the ballot and faked my family members name?

JOSE HUIZAR 9,096 54.76
NICK PACHECO 4,352 26.2
29 Precincts/41% reporting
Dont let the numbers fool you as to who's "out of touch" 5 percent of the people in the district do all the work, and Pacheco had most of the movers... but with 3 times as much money, Huizar was able to tell most of the people who don't even know what district they live in lies, over and over... any they bought it.
These are the same people who still believe Av started 80 neighborhood watches (while he was out of town, with the help of staff who still get lost driving from one event to another).
It's all in the bucks, and people wanted to please AV, so they paid through the Jose to get to him.
Huizar will be reelected in 2007, then skip out and run for some other position within a year after that, barely beating AV's 2-years-in office tenure.
What do you get when you buy a candy with old labels?
Rotten politicians.
That may sound like sour grapes to some, 11:43, but its probably pretty close to the truth.
What amazes me is that these candidates never catch on to the fact that the political consultants who keep urging them to move around like rats in a maze, from one race to another, are also the ones making a fortune off their campaigns.
Los Angeles must not be a place for me to live in.
I will not kiss ass. If I want to participate in Neighborhood Councils, I have to kiss ass.
Hell no.
Pacheco 26.2
This from the 'man who gets things done'?
This whole election was a crock. I'm going back to the sports section.
We might as well should have kept the Council District 14 seat empty.
Nothing will ever get done with the same shitty staff.
11:48
Think of it as "public" funding of the next election.
CD14 paid AV to run for mayor, got nothing for it but the notoriety of having a mayor living in our midst (OOPS, where is he living now... where did he vote).
Huizar will try to move a few things ahead, he's not anywhere near the opportunist AV was. But, yeah, better learn to fend for yourself.
3-1-1, Hahn's baby... write it EVERY where.
Two political careers ended today, Pacheco and Orteaga.
Anybody else?
Manuel Ortega" I thought he left power a long time ago.
Damn, now he's in L.A. politics.
That's Robert Orteaga
Pacheco's career ended when his buddy Torres picked a personal fight with AV, and offended the sensibilities of the rabid progressives. He's been paying for the screwups of associates he's too damn loyal to - even when they screw him up, ever since.
No such person, 11:55 (damn, that other poster was right - the Huizar people really aren't plugged in well).
And Huizar's campaign manager was Monique Gomez, right guys?
For some reason, L.A. Times still hasn't called this one...
Of course you realize this is the end of the Mayor Sam blog -- the house that CD14 dogfights built... they'll be here in the morning with the padlocks and storage containers.
Anon 11:55
Nick's campaign manager was Robert URTEAGA, not Orteaga.
But, yeah, he's finished too. I'm glad I didn't preside over a 60 point swing like that...
It looks like the dramatic shift in support that the Targeted Communications group reported about was true after all.
Who would of thought that such thing was possible.
What did Jose do?
Who gets the credit?
What did Nick do, or did not do?
Who is to blame?
How long does this affect city politics?
Hey Mayor Sam... Did you go to sleep. Huizar is at nearly 54% now according to the County Recorder.
Yea I went to sleep and woke up thinking it was all a nightmare.
Looks like it was the voters who were asleep.
Not that Pacheco is anything great, but Huizar? Come on.
But, its going to be very dark days in California for some time.
Pacheco is one thing, but Arnold really fucked up.
You remember some time ago I went after low life Republican leaders like the Boyds, etc. who care more about personal power, money and prestige than the state of the party?
Stay tuned. You ain't seen nothing yet.
I'm going back to bed. Cut and paste away!
Fu*k you, Mayor Sam. The voters can't be wrong. It's your nightmare, not theirs. Suck up while you still can.
Okay, it's 1:30 AM. I can safely go to sleep knowing that Huizar won - yes!
And Arnold was sucessfully shut down.
California told Arnold what they thought of him.
You cannot come into power saying you are going to clean house and get rid of special interests money when your idea and the residents idea of a special interest is vastly different.
I disagree Mayor. This is a very good day for California and Los Angeles will be just fine..
For every string of Huizar's that AV can pull, he will be unable to do that to Wesson. Wesson is his own man and he doesn't need AV's approval.
I'll be tired tomorrow, but happy.
Congratulations Jose~
Remember my prediction from this weekend:
Prediction:
Huizar: 55%
Pacheco: 33%
Gonzalez: 3%
DeVera: 3%
Republican dude: 4%
Rest: 2%
Actual result:
Huizar: 54%
Pacheco: 28%
Gonzalez: 2%
DeVera: 5%
Republican dude: 4%
Rest: 9%
That's why they call me El Rey (guess I was too charitable to Pacheco)
Real Winnner of tonight:
CHIEF PARKER.
Told the entire City payback was a bitch -- told everyone that if NIck and his crew wanted to expose the blog, there'd be payback.
When the city learns not to mess with the Chief, civil war will end.
I sat there in utter amazement has he told me and 3 other City Hall staffers at City Hall how Huizar was going to win. And he did.
Damn, can Michael Trujillo just move on with his life and leave Chief Parker behind? Afterall, his boss surely is getting himself ready for a run against Ahhnold now. I'm sure that Reiner is going to want him to pay attention to something more important than this blog.
Trujillo has to fill his head with hot air from somewhere now that he has been banned from Sam's place. Of course he needs to stroke his ego anonymously. Why change now?
Anon 11:43 pm ,11:52 pm
stated it well, now the 14th district will start to bleed as more of Av,s goal and plans are pushed by Jose.
Right or wrong about the outcome, Trujillo's usefullness in local politics is nill. His goofing here will follow him everywhere he goes... he's the "Alvin Parra" of the political blogosphere (and "Alvin" is the Homer Simpson of L.A. politics).
If you seriously think that blogging here could ruin Trujillo's political effectiveness... you've got another thing coming.
With the results from last night it is obvious that serious people need to ask questions.
How can Pacheco's campaign implode to such an extent. All indication point to internal sabotage and back stabbing.
The culprit is not hard to identify, Eric Hacopian.
How can a person go from being AV's consultant to being Pacheco's in the next election.
How can Parke Skelton's business partner run a campaign against a Parke's candidate?
How can some one with close ties to Richard Murello run Pacheco's campaign?
Did Hacopian hire an incompetent fundraising team to hurt Nick's campaign?
Can a person like that really be trusted?
What did Hacopian reveal of the Pacheco game plan to AV after he left the campaign.
Was he a plant all along.
With all the coverage in this race no one seems that no one has the guts to ask these questions.
THE BEST CANDIDATE IS CRYSTAL ARCEO.
