Open Thread For Thursday
On this day in 1998, Los Angeles lost a great leader in Tom Bradley, a Mayor who's tenure has been missed ever since.
This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

This is getting ridiculous. DONE has been sending out reminders every damn day to get people to attend the budget meeting on Sat. Now today we get another damn reminder from Larry Frank. Obviousy Antonio is nervous that no one will show up and his photo op will be screwed. We're all adults morons so stop sending us these baby reminders every damn day.

Subject: Budget Day & Meet the Mayor
On behalf of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, I would like to invite you to attend the Community Budget Day on Saturday, October 1 at City Hall from 9 a.m. to noon.

Larry can't help it. He is used to dealing with dim witted people. You know, farmworkers, south central welfare recipients, our mayor. You can't teach an old dog new tricks. Larry is to old and set in his ways to be successful at DONE. His once in a lifetime oportunity to organize and it comes at the twighlight of his career. But that's what you get when you just hire and appoint YES people.

I'm busy. I've got REAL opportunities to serve my community that day, not serve as an extra in the Mayor's next campaign newsreel.

Shaw,
You missed my death day, June 5th, the same year.

There are other community events in Los Angeles on October 1st. Call your local college and university for community events.

If you're interested in potholes, read this new (9-29-05) San Fernando Sun article on Alex Padilla's shenanigans on Pacoima asphault plant expansion. Once AGAIN, he flip flops from his position. Just like every single planning issue in C.D. 7, 'unexpected opposition' at public hearings throw Alex into a limbo.
No wonder you didn't get endorsed by Sierra Club, while running unopposed in March.
Alex Padilla wilts, Montañez Shines

Damn another stupid e-mail blast from DONE but this time Antonio is talking. This only tells many of us that he's not getting the rsvp's they thought. Obviously on this e-mail he needs others to do his work cause he doesn't have a clue. This is 6 this week.

Dear Neighborhood Council Leaders:
Developing the city’s budget may be the most important and complex responsibility that the mayor has to perform. It means making difficult choices between what we would like to do and what we can afford to do.
I need and value the insight, viewpoints, and recommendations of the neighborhood councils.

In other words Tony is saying, "Just in case things don't go well - what with me calling the press corps trolls and all - I need someone to blame, so please come out." How soon before Larry Franks resigns? - wait, he has no where else to go and he's already made a career of being a poverty pimp, so he'll stay on no matter how bad it gets.

Dumb move Antonio calling the media "trolls." Even Robert Greene in LA Weekly story states that Antonio called them "trolls." The honeymoon is over and that will come back to haunt him.

Great Antonio doesn't give a crap what the community thinks he just wants the neighborhood councils to do his work and then he can blame them when he wants to cut budgets.
1. The process will be straight forward and will not require neighborhood councils to conduct STAKEHOLDER SURVEYS. (ISN'T IT THEIR TAX DOLLARS???)
2. The input that I seek will not be limited to prioritizing issue areas but will instead provide input on tough decisions

Mayor Sam:
Do you really think it's fair to continue to allow people to post under Jim Hahn's name? It is SO not cool. He's gone. He's taken a job. He's out of the public right now. He's bothering nobody.
I think if you are going to allow anonymous posting (and you should) there should be some rule about posting under other names. It's not fair and it's not funny.
Perhaps the only way a blogger can use a real persons name is if it is their own and they've signed up for a blogger account.
I only respect the people who post here under their real names anyway and there are few of them. I don't even know them. I only respect them because they have guts.
Anonymous posts are good for an insider who wants to report a misdeed, but other than that, they're just chicken shits.
