Its Miller Time
Gerry Miller has been chosen as the Chief Legislative Analyst for the City Council, replacing Ron Deaton who went over to DWP.
This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

The old adage "Never be an interim anything" is foiled again.
Maybe they'll ask Winogrond to stick around too. Wonder what kind of plans career gentrifier Mark Winogrond has for CD14?

Mayor Sam and Frank. What a clever way of diverting attention away from Antonio's photo-ops and possible investigations.
Joseph Mailander said:
Talk about diversion, I'm LAobserving a certain blogger trying to dupe City Hall beat reporters into blowing their afternoons on figuring out what deals were cut to lock Miller in. Any article that talks about such deals should come equipped with a snooze alarm. Even so, let's watch to see if anyone takes the bait.

There's no contempt here, anonymous poster. Just trying to help some impressionable thirtysomething journos budget their time as wisely as possible. Shame on you for suggesting that there's contempt where there's only peace and love and respect for the trade!

Word on the street is that Jon Mukri, Rec and Parks Department head is also becoming a Legislative Analyst, as of January 1st, 2006.
He's been there barely a year, great quote from the Rec & Parks website, where his "I'm so glad to be joining the department" letter is still the whole of their department page:
I look forward to meeting the challenges of the years ahead and to making the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks the best in the nation.

How much did Murki contribute to the Villaraigosa Campaign?
Anonymous said:
I don't know what Muckri did or didn't contribute, but I know that there's a lot of shuffling of district and regional managers in Rec and Parks right now.
Numerous ineffective "making time until retirement" folks are being kicked uphill and getting promotions. It could all be part of departmental shenanegans as far as I know.

That's why I voted Hahn. He gave them perks but didn't make the city into a free-for-all like a certain Charasmatic-Armani suit wearing- show up at press conference with that BS grin Mayor.

If you think so, that is true for you. But I'm not backing down or backing off, Mr. Anonymous. I'm going by my own experience.
Please note that in this case I am not advocating anyone to stop reading whatever they like. I'm inviting City Hall reporters not to follow leads on whatever Roderick (or for that matter, me or anyone else) tells them to, but to go out on their own instincts and do what they feel is newsworthy.
Why don't we debate on whether or not an alleged "deal" involving something as politically neutral as the top CLA spot should be is newsworthy? It was a presumptuous thing to say, because CLAs have to gravitate to neutral ground in order to gain their authority.
How do you think Deaton, a Republican, became such a notoriously efficient one here in LA? It had nothing to do with whatever deal was made when he came into the office. It had to do with his own performance in the office.
If Miller suddenly starts serving Antonio-favorable analysis to Council, Antonio will get nothing he wants. If he favors the Council, he'll get dissed by the Mayor.
One guy offered an invite for local journos to fish for red herring and maybe slime Miller on the one day he should be congratulated. I'd like to suggest that a contrary path is also available today.

U should know by now the Mayor's spin for Villaraigosa. No matter how the color the wall, it is still AV pulling strings here. Skelton advises and posts.

Why did you at one time mention a threat from Cyberlady, what happened?

Miller promised to keep Corina Villaraigos company for the duration of Mayor's term.

Think there's a jail cell big enough for Molina?
Anonymous said:
Yeah, she'll fit. Thank god she's only 4'11 any taller she'll need two cells
Anonymous said:
They can flip her and carry her into the cell like a 2x4. But she'll have to do everything laying on her side because her height is the shortest dimension to her.

I saw Molina once at a store with her son. Her son looked upset when some shoppers went up to her and sais, "Your that lady that comes out on channel 35 on cable, right?"

Mailander thinks hiring a CLA is politically neutral? Hahahahahaha. It only took them weeks, followed by a marathon exec session.

Mailander seems somewhat naive (politically). Of course there was a deal.

Why does no one post on just who Gerry Miller is and what his past is, and what he has done?
The post wasn't about Mailander or Broderick. You guys are obsessive.
Get over it.

I must offer my apologies. I see that Kevin Roderick has decided to jump in the mud (again) with Brian Hay. It seems no one can leave well enough alone.

Why wasn't Bill Fujioka who worked well with Deaton appointed? He must have some baggage.

Of course I'm politically naive. That's why I read MayorSam, and continue to defend it to everyone I can: because I like the transparency in government offered by this blog, both in posts and comments. It provides info I can't get elsewhere.
But I didn't say there wasn't a deal, or that the process was politically neutral. That's a complete misrepresentation of what I said.
I don't know if there was a truly far-reaching deal or if Council simply wanted to dance with other pretty girls in order to inspire loyalty in one. I said that hectoring journalists to pursue this yesterday afternoon was offering them a red herring.

Gerry Miller is the worst possible person for the job. I'm sick of nobody in the town understanding the power of the CLA. I hope Gerry doesn't get as much as Deaton had. That should be stopped before it gets started. He is way too involved in the inner workings of the..yes.. politics of the city. He is aligned with the old staff, consultants, lobbyists and former politicians way too much to be truly effective. He won't make decisions based on fact. He'll make them based on what he's told by them.
Why did Council make such a big deal of pretending to hire an outsider? I'm not sure. I think they were torn. Half of them know his ties and how he'll conduct his job and the other half benefit from having him there.
Fujioka wouldn't have been any better. Both he and Miller are too old school. Good ole boy network. Whatever terminology you use. He was missing from Council Wednesday for the Miller announcement, so perhaps it was rubbing salt in the wound.
I hope people keep on top of this.
If we are going to have the same old people in high positions, yet they're just getting hired, perhaps AV will make the radical changes he claimed he would and Miller will take marching orders from AV - not the political scum he currently does.
