Hands to AV, he gave an impressive speech. A little long, but made his point of uniting Los Angeles, more than Mayor Poopy did. Also give him kudos for not just promising more cops, and fighting gangs, but getting to the root of the problem -- give hope to the little kiddies, a good education, safe streets, opportunity in life and they wont go into gangs, is basically what he said. Its a big job, and I wish him luck and even though it make be just talk now, at least its intelligent talk, I hope AV gets it going.
And as must as those anti-AVers may not want to admit it, the man has some charisma and clout, he just might do it.

Although I did vote for Hahn (didn't like AV going back on his words...but hey, he's a politician), I think AV will bring many things to the table. Some are already speculating his demise but I think he'll be a great addition to our long list of LA Mayors...

Well back in the office now. I had a good time. Now its time to get to work.
There were two sets of protesters I heard. What were the other ones? Naji Ali was there. He was quoted in today's papers saying Antonio has set himself up to fall hard. Media reporting a big scuffle with the guy carrying the Mexican Flag. No Latinos at Podium but Chip Murray got to speak. Gameboy Padilla went with a woman. Who is he trying to kid?
Gee, wonder why Chief Bratton was walking way ahead by himself in front of procession. If Antonio appoints John Mack to police commission as papers are reporting you can see the relationship between Bratton and Antonio go down the toliet.
2:09-- Apparently Padilla also moonlights as a field deputy for Al Gore, did you see how he was riding that ass? You're right, who's he trying to kid.
Gotta love John & Ken on KFI. They are tearing Antonio apart and the LA Times promises agenda in today's paper. Unbelievable they can get away with what they're saying.
Here's the real analysis:
It was a good speech. It took him a while to find his stride, though. Crowd reaction was a bit understated. Standing ovation at the beginning was short. Good opening, but he was speaking too slowly. Needed to get into the meat of it more quickly. Could have been more gracious to Jim Hahn, would have made him seem even bigger, and he was much better in his council speech to JH. It was not AV's staff that was booing, BTW, a ridiculous claim. Janice Hahn was smiling the whole time and checking on her brother occasionally, who seemed to enjoy himself, except when AV was speaking.
Speech was fine--not the best-penned thing that Antonio has given. A little too general, a little too vague. The dream stuff was good.
His mother stuff and personal bio stuff was and always is moving (all you AV-haters, it is, so get over it).
Funniest line was when he said that politics was a family affair. Indeed.
The stuff about Watts Towers was a beautiful metaphor, I thought, and he really was able to get into it and the pace picked up.
I was surprised there was not more spanish in the speech, but his multi-cultural stuff (Malaysia yesterday or Moscow a century ago) was very strong.
Overall, a 7.5 out of 10. Gore was as wooden as usual. Chick sure gave Rocky the middle finger with Jerry Brown. When did things get so bad between 'em?

There is nothing wrong with thanking your mother for your success. Just as he said, this is the story of many Angelinos. There is a strength derived from the pain & suffering that one struggles. You learn to appreciate the gifts & talents that have been given you, My own mother was widowed with 3 young children at a young age and instead of giving up and succumbing to the despair with drugs & alcohol she raised her children all to be educated & successful. If it was my inauguration you bet I would give thanks to my mother for raising us right. But you wouldn’t have a clue about what I am talking about would you?

HE uses his mother to glorify himself. Why did he forget to talk about his dad beating his mom as he does in every speech? Too many promises at the starting gate. The mayor has no control over schools so why bother as most media reported this afternoon. The Mexican flag really pissed a lot of people off. Antonio was too obviously reading his lines. Let's see if the research shows if it was his speech or not.

Apparently there was a HUGE Mexican Flag and a guy who was aggressively pushing through the crowd. He got into a confrontation with a lot of spectators and they finally had to ask him to leave. Well, that just pissed him off and he started saying "I'm proud of my heritage, Antonio is one of us" ...... It's just like that Billboard that had LA crossed out and Mexico printed in. People are sensitive about their cultures but face it we are in Los Angeles.
I went to that link Mayor Frank provided for the pro-life protestors. I did not see anything wrong with that. Usually liberal professors make us do things we do not agree with such as listen to a liberal speaker, attend a communist camp, or listen to other professors slander the soldiers over in Iraq at public events...nada different Mayor Frank

It's up to you as Mayor to make a positive difference for Angelinos first, and special interest groups/developers last or never.
