Antonio Watch

Since so many of you seem to want to talk about Tony - and today is pretty dead until the polls start closing back east - so lets talk Antonio.

Short of the recall, there isn't much else in the news about him. However, he did perform some councilmanic duties recently - wishing a 112 year old woman in his district happy birthday.

Perhaps she can give Tony some lessons on longevity.

Looks like the NBC poll is back up to 52% recall. Tony's fingers must be tired from voting so much.

If the recall people get sufficient signatures what would be the next step? Would an election take place before the mayoral election? at the same time? or after?

Survey update. As of late Tuesday afternoon and out of a total of 1070 votes, 52% favor a recall and 33% think Tony is doing a "great" job.

November 02, 2004 3:57 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

Those 33% I'm sure are his loser incompetent staff. I haven't heard one person in CD 14 say anything positive about them. But then again it all stems from the top.

I can hardly wait for the media to start printing the mudslinging that we're all about to witness. Hertzberg has said "it's personal." There's a long list of dirty laundry on Tony

Antonio was going to bring a new level of service to the district and move a progressive agenda on the council. What happen?

Nothing remarkable has happened in the service area. He's ripped off Pacheco's community clean ups and acts like he invented them. He's never around. He doesn't have "no appointment necessary" office hours.

He's been ineffective on the council in bringing a progressive agenda, even when the council has 13 Dems.

He doesn't share his money, unless his ambition is advanced.

And now he can't even dream of heading to Washington. (Not that he would have passed the background check anyways.)

Think About It

I'm sure Nick Pacheco and his former staffers are the source of 50% of the negatives in that "poll." The other half probably comes from the mayor's office. But think about it, if people in CD14 are complaining about little service after only 16 months for AV, constituents must have given up on the Mayor, who after three years hasn't delivered. He's the administrator of basic city services, so their anger is more a reflection of his failed leadership.

And I'm sure if you took a poll on other districts, especially those SFV and South LA districts, the residents' sentiment would be the same. Hell, the majority of Valley folks wanted to break away, which doesn't say a lot for their reps.

While Villaraigosa hasn't delivered the goods for CD14, it seems the recall supporters are motivated by Tony's lack of integrity. He lied to win an election. That's the bottom line.

I've lived in this city all my life and have never heard anyone badmouth a councilman as they are Antonio. The only people who like him is Eagle Rock and that's because they don't know (because he's a hypocrite) his stand on illegal immigrants. They also don't know his record voting on crime in favor of gangbangers. His biggest critism is that he sides with VENDORS in Boyle Heights and some think he's getting kickbacks.

As for the Mayor at least HE had the balls to get rid of Parks and NOT one council member came out to support him until the end when they voted against Parks. Mayor was the only one who wanted more police officers and thanks to those losers on city council we didn't get them.

They hate the lies and deception.
They hate the lack of service.
They hate the feeling of being used.

And if you were treated this way, you would hate those things, too.

Lies and deception -- no matter how much the truth is thrown in your face, folks like you will say things like "we hear antonio is getting kickbacks" simply not true. Neither is the boyle heights neighborhood council $$$, neither is the lie and deception part. Antonio's # 1 Promise -- and the promise he actually swore to when during his swearing in, was to serve his district. And he has, and will as mayor. East LA has never had a mayor -- Antonio would be a good one, there were no deceptions or lies.

Lack of service -- please explain, cause i can loosely say that about hahn as well, but in Antonio's case it's simply not true. As for the Days of service stuff being a pacheco idea, who cares, a good idea is a good idea, Nick may have had a few dozen folks, Antonio has had over 10,000 in a year. Thats huge.

So if you are wrong about everything else about Antonio, and you don't hate them, then i welcome you to our side -- happy to have your vote.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU. I wish there were more people who lived in LA that cared as you all seem to. It sounds like you want better for your community. Most communites don't care at all.

Meat, I don't think you understand the hurt these people are feeling so you shouldn't critize them.

Hurt these people are? Hurt these people are? Everyone on this site are hacks pure and simple. The only way you know about this site is b/c you like politics or work at city hall, no one here is really a regular joe.

And when it comes to hurt let's talk about that, i was hurt when Jim Hahn put all hispanics in the they are all drug dealers and gangbangers box during his first campaign. I was hurt to see Jim Hahn send a mailer to republicans in the valley, a black and white picture of Antonio (too make him look darker) standing in front of the Watts tower (a proud place in the african american community) claiming "you can't trust Antonio villaraigosa". Well you know what we've found out that "you can't trust JIm Hahn" why, because he lies. So yes, lets talk about being hurt for the last 4 years or we can talk about CD 14 getting the type of representation it deserves - a good mayor named Antonio.

I hate to break it to all you Tony supporters however, he doesn't have a chance in hell becoming our next Mayor. I'm sure he'll use that stupid race card of wanting to be the first Latino mayor. That racist crap is all b.s. When you have nothing to offer go for the race card. Johnny Cochran did and OJ got off. You talk to any black person and they'l tell you OJ was guilty.

Mayor Sam put the stuff about the county all of a sudden giving $113.8 mil to public safety and sheriffs. Poor LAPD what about us?

City hall gossipers are saying that because AV put his face all over those Measure A commericals the polls drastically dropped. I can believe that. The commercials didn't have the Chief, Baca, r victim families but there Antonio was.

It's always about HIM. Maybe this recall will HUMBLE his grandstanding in council. 4th floor staffers can't stand his grandstanding every single week. You could hear the whispers.

Meat. How can you assure the residents of the 14th district that they will receive preferential treatment if Antonio is elected Mayor? He can't even give them preferential treatment as their councilman. Do you know how many days he has been out of the state in the last year? Not out of the 14th district. Not out of the city. But out of California. Close to one hundred days, I hear.

100 days? thats simply not true. Again, the folks that hear or suspect can listen all the crazy voices in their head all they want. Cause thats all they got.

Measure A was at 49% in polls before Antonio put his face all over it, it passed with a majority not the 2/3rds needed however.

I like facts, not innuedo or whisper campaigns.

As for Antonio grandstanding, thats merely opinion and i respect that, i respectfully disagree however.

As for Antonio playing the race card, were you here four years ago, Antonio didn't make a single peep over being hispanic, much to the shagrin of the hispanic community. He ran as an Angelino.

As for Antonio playing the race card, he hasn't, maybe i did by accident, but i was merely replying to say that i was hurt that Hahn ran a racist campaign. And folks can read that in the LA Times as well from 4 years ago, so it's not just crazy old meat spouting off.

What is exciting however are is the fact that so many people (including myself) like to comment on him, it must mean that folks are A. scared of losing or B. Love him.

Cause if you hated him and weren't scared he'd win folks wouldn't comment on him as much.

Anyone who cares to hear from a Villaraigosa supporter and how betrayed they felt when he announced he was running for Mayor should read the following.

Villaraigosa's Broken Promise

by Tom Topping
They told me he was a career politician. They told me it was only a stepping stone to higher office. "Oh no," I said. "He made us a promise. He promised that if he won he would complete his term as Councilman, run for a second term, and then after that, who knows."
I heard him make that promise over and over again during the campaign. I believed him. I believed him so much that I made it my own promise. I put my own word and reputation on the line as I passed that promise on to others.
On Tuesday, August 3rd, by his official announcement to run for Mayor of the city of L.A., he broke that promise. And because I personally vouched for his promise, I broke mine, too.

Antonio Villaraigosa will show up Saturday at 9 a.m. out in the far northwest Valley to talk with the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council. Their invitation is rather pointed:

Chatsworth's Neighborhood Council has invited mayoral candidate Antonio Villaraigosa to come tell us how, as the City's Mayor, he would improve life in Los Angeles.

Seems this blog is just turning into a secret grotto to vent racist attitudes that you can't otherwise do in public. I can't believe that this is actually driven by anyone with a knowledge of government or policy. If people have a problem with immigration take it up with the President and Congress.

And if "broken promise" is all some of you can use against Antonio, you're in trouble. There are bigger issues in this City, like "pay-to-play." That's a real issue. Hey, maybe you can research Antonio's attendance record from elementary school. That might be telling too.

A "broken promise" is meaningless if you expect all politicians to lie to you.

A "broken promise" is meaningless if you didn't rely on it and have expectations stem from that promise.

Fortunately, in this country we have the ability to vote on whether a "broken promise" from a politician has any meaning. (su voto es su voz)

The recall will be very difficult for people who live outside the district to understand, but the Boulevard Sentinel article clearly identifies an anger in the district.
