Rodriguez' missed opportunity

Look at poor Monica's figures:
  • Margie Carranza 324 4.79
  • Monica Rodriguez 1,889 27.94
  • Richard Alarcon 3695 54.64
  • Oscar Mendoza 854 12.63
Monica got the kind of turnout from Mendoza she needed to force a runoff, and also a low enough turnout to make a runoff possible. But still she fell short. She needed about 300 more votes to force a runoff.

I asked to interview Monica. "After the election, during the runoff," the team told me.

Don't know how the interview would have turned out, but I do know that when it comes off well, the blogosphere can move 300 votes. Ask Ruby de Vera or Brian Heckmann...

A nice blog piece not only gets read, it gets passed around in email...it gets googled and comes up right away...

All of those dull-as-death fishwrap endorsements, on the other hand...

Correct Joseph. A total of 313 votes. Thank you to MS and MR for having the only real coverage of the elections. Scooter Libby be damned!

Poor Monica! I just took a look at her campaign filings and her outstanding bills. She still has invoices of over $100,000 owed to her campaign consultant, John Shallman. Shallman is Wendy Greuel's political strategist. What I don't understand is why this council race campaign cost her so much for a political consultant?

$100,000 to only ONE consultant? Sounds like someone took someone for a ride...

What I can't beleive is how few votes Oscar Mendoza won. Less than 900 votes.

Not another politician, just a Loser.

Oh, well. He can go back to being a roofer I guess.

That's nothing - Jamie Cordaro got less votes than that dork Eric Rothenay. Jamie spent like $20K or more and Eric probably spent $200. He can join David Hernandez in the club of big talking also rans. Here are guys who get more press than just about anyone but don't turn it into votes. Fucking amazing. No ground operation. Talkradio alone does not win you voters.

David wasn't on the ballot but good to see he is kept fresh in your thoughts. Remember, a resentment is like you drinking the poison and waiting for David to die....

Good luck it is going to be a long year. Especially after April 11h.

This is what happens when you hire a consultant that doesn't believe in field operations. Shallman is just like Parke in sharing this belief. The only difference is that Parke compensates with a huge war chest. Parra missed a golden opportunity also. If he spent half the time and money on the field instead of on hit pieces he would be in a runoff right now. These are Latino communities, the only Grass Roots candidates that win are by doing Grass Root work - knocking on as many doors as possible and dragging the voters out - kicking and screaming if need be - but you have to get them to the polls. Take a lesson from Nick Pacheco, he's the only underdog candidate that has been able to turn this trick.

I guess they don't read print in CD 7 either, because Ms. Rodriguez got every print endorsement possible.

...you are a fucking idiot and i fucking hate you

You may need to work on that; even if you were right, it's not worthwhile to you to carry that kind of emotion around from race to race.

Oops turns out from campaign docs Cordaro gave Alger $5500...

You thoughtful decision-makers at Mayor Sam endorsed a guy who gave $5500 to Jim Alger to run his campaign. Want to apologize or say oops we didn't realize?

Cordaro not the best endorsement you guys made, huh?

FYI - I saw an e-mail going to members of the Congress of NCs saying Cordaro was on the verge of winning a seat. That they needed all the NCs help to put one of their own in. Asking for help on the weekend before the campaign to walk, donate, etc.

Apparently nobody responded... Guess that shows how cohesive that unit is... Probably one of Alger's bright ideas.

We'll Oscar may not have won, but guess what kid's, Oscar already makes over 1 Million a year, so he'll be just fine...

Wonder where Monica is going to get enough money to pay her bills off... She should hit up Oscar for a loan....

Monica is hot but the sister is a very hot tamale. Oscar a two-time loser. He should stop trying to be a politician and start being a better businessman.

Lets get the looser word straight boys and girls. In Secession Oscar picked up more Votes than Alarcon (4,368) to be exact, a Victory for Oscar. The Secessionist at Valley VOTE lost Proposition F which stood for Cityhood. Oscar does not need a job like the rest of Alarcon and Rodriguez kiss ass followers who can not stand on their own feet.

Sweet dreams. While the rest of you kiss ass to Alarcon and others watch Monica pull out a second mortgage loan and her hubby has to sale a lot of Cars at Galpin Ford to Pay John Shallman and little Dick Riordan. OSCAR will be MAKING the MONEY with a BIG SMILE.

TO BE CONTINUED!!!!!!!!!!

Poooor Monica all those endorsements and all that prostitution for money and she still has to watch her husband sale cars. Meanwhile Bert Boeckman at Galpin Ford reaps the benefits off Raul Fontanil.

Once again, the uneducated voters elect Alarconned to office. I guess the Northeast Valley will continue to be a shit hole.

Felipe Fat Fuentes can now roll into the State Assembly seat that his Daddy James Acevedo prepared for him.

Poor, poor Monica. I am so not concerned about her bills.

I can't believe anyone in CD 7 even voted for her. I knew they would vote for Alarcon.

No way do I think Monica is hot. I went to her website and she's kinda funky looking. I can't pinpoint it. I suppose she just isn't my type. More importantly than that are her (lack of) sound policies and ideas. Where were they in this race? The only people that backed her besides the business community and her family, are people who hold old grudges against Richard. And find me the councilman who doesn't have those people.

Oscar, so young and dumb. How did he let that secession thing give him the courage? What competition did he have? I don't think most of the candidates in that race took it that seriously. I'm still baffled as to how he or Monica thought they were bright enough or ready for such a challenge. I suppose the lure of the $alarie$ were too much for them. Oscar makes millions on roofing? Yeah, right.

Margie. Oh forget it. I don't think her name was ever mentioned here and with good reason.

Welcome home Richard.

Monica's whole campaign strategy was to keep people from voting. All her mail was "vote no" on Alarcon - not about why people should vote for her. Her hope? Few enough people would vote that it goes to a run-off. Well, I have no respect for someone that is trying to supress votes and throw mud. Candidates should talk about issues and experience and encourage people to vote. Not be afraid of voters, like Monica.

10:30PM - Is an example of a Great Kiss Ass of Alarcon who will only make about $30k if he/she is lucky. Too stupid to make it out on the real world so he/she will continue leaching on Alarcon and the taxpayers. Maybe you should grow some BALLS and make it on your own. BABOSO/BABOSA
