Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Thursday
Betty Pleasant back on her usual anti CD 8 City Councilman Bernard Parks rantings.
"Another Soulvine Thursday" Columnist Betty Pleasant.
Great Thursday to all as we bring you yet "Another Soulvine Thursday Ranting" from the LA Wave Newspaper's keyboard of longtime South LA Journalistic Figure Betty Pleasant. In this week's rant (from last week's paper), Betty barrows from a old Mayor Sam moniker (since retire) to renew her baseless attacks on CD 8 City Councilman Bernard Parks. It seems that Betty has a problem with Councilman Park's
endorsement of former CD 14 Chief of Staff Ana Cubas, over State Senator Curren Price, in the contest to replace CD 9 City Councilwoman Jan Perry. We provide an excerpt below.
** Mayoral Candidate and CD City Councilman Eric Garcetti continues to pick up endorsements of his council colleagues, as CD 4 City Councilman Tom LaBonge joins the like of Joe Buscaino, Jan Perry, Paul Koretz, Ed Reyes, Paul Krekorian and Bernard Parks, in supporting his neighboring council colleague this morning at Silver Lake Meadow.
** What does Civic Watchdog/ Slayer of Measure A Jack Humphreville think of City Clowncil Central Committee Strongman Herb "Mini Amin" Wesson's conceived "LA 2020" Economic Focus Group?
Bitter Bernie Strikes Again!
Thus, you have everything to know about Betty's petty convoluted political thoughts.
Eighth District Councilman Bernard Parks, who barely squeaked into office during the 2011 council elections, Wednesday endorsed Ana Cubas, the El Salvador-born and Santa Monica-raised resident of the 14th Council District for the 9th Council District seat, claiming her to a “bridge builder” between the district’s various racial and ethnic groups. Parks, a former LAPD chief, don’t know nothin’ ‘bout building bridges, as many residents of his own 8th District know that he can’t build bridges among his own racial and ethnic group!
Parks criticized Sen. Curren Price, the top vote-getter in the runoff race for CD9, of trying to divide the voters along racial lines, when in fact, the community is accusing Cubas of doing that. Parks said Price is “insensitive” to the 9th District’s multiple ethnic groups. Hah! During his tenure as police chief and as city councilman, Parks has been insensitive to everybody — regardless of race, color, creed or national origin. He has been the fulcrum of dissent and division.

LA 2020 is an excellent concept, especially since we will have a new mayor and seven new Council Members, none of whom have presented any concrete ideas for budget, pension, and work place reform. But as it stands, LA 2020, a commission established by City Council President Herb Wesson and downtown Los Angeles lawyer Mickey Kantor to “review how the City of Los Angeles can help grow the economy and jobs, attract business investment and industry, and create fiscal stability for the City,” lacks creditability because it does not represent the ethnic, demographic, and economic diversity of our City. LA 2020 is too important to our increasingly insolvent City to be hijacked by an “Unholy Alliance” consisting of the political establishment that occupies City Hall, the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, the public labor unions, and the rest of the downtown ring kissers who are feasting at the expense of hard working Angelenos. LA 2020 must earn our trust and confidence by reconstituting its membership to better reflect LA’s demographic and economic diversity, by firmly establishing its independence, by reaching out to the public on a regular basis, and by recommending and implementing real budget, pension, and work place reform.
