Morning Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Machine for Monday

CD 4 City Councilman Tom LaBonge's "Chief of Field Operations" Dave Ahern moonlighting as landscaping worker at supposed Hollywood Sign tourist spot.  Wonder if the project was exempt from CEQA requirements?
Ahern and other Councilman Labonge staffers (including Sheila Irani in "work clothes") executing their "field duties" at supposed Hollywood Sign tourist stop. ** Both photos taken by Sarajane Schwartz, President of the Hollywoodland Homeowners Association, at the displeasure of Dave Ahern.

Take your choice here in labeling this story, NIMBY overreaction or unilateral and legally questionable action by CD 4 City Councilman Tom Lebonge. But make no doubt that this controversy regarding the proliferation of tourist flocking to the slopes of Mt. Lee to view the world famous Hollywood Sign and the impact on the neighborhoods down slope, is garnering major (and unwanted exposure for Councilman LaBonge's staff) attention. If NIMBY civil wars and questionable actions of a councilman are your cup of tea, then plan on being in the crowd at Tuesday's afternoon (4 p.m.) community conclave to discuss this FUBAR at 6501 Fountain Ave.

** Most intriguing comment was posted in light of our "Valley Greuel" post on Friday as noted here, The Van de Kamps Coalition is curious about the circumstances under which Wendy Greuel was asked by Los Angeles Community College District to "independently" investigate how a completely unqualified person was given a $3.25 million contract to act as the LACCD's watchdog Inspector General. Makes you go hmmm.

** Daily News Tip Off Columnist Rick Orlov reports on the City Hall effects of the Kinde Durfee Scandal, A brewing CD 7 battle between Andrea Alarcon and Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes. Plus, the possible Board of Supervisor candidacy of State Senator Alex Padilla.

** Former Herald-Examiner scribe turn television investigated reporter John Schwada, has made a soft landing at the "WWG" Kevin Roderick's "Observing West LA Life and his Times Blog" after his forced departure from Fox 11. His latest missive on Zev's redistricting battles with Gloria Molina is on target. But what Schwada fails to notice, is the rumored Molina desired return to Los Angeles City Hall as a goal for 2013 and a possible run for Mayor in 2017. Thus, Zev is countering Molina's pre-emptive strike on his possible mayoral desires for 2013.

** This is not surprising considering Democrats proclivities for outlandish spending, but the Times relegated a good chunk of column inches to informing its dwindling readers that many "D" public officeholders ignor the warning signs of Kinde Durfee's graft of their respective political campaign accounts.
Your thoughts................

WHY DON'T PEOPLE WHO WORK IN THESE OFFICES COME FORWARD WITH INFORMATION ABOUT GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION. SURELY, THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO COULD SAY THINGS WITHOUT GIVING THEMSELVES AWAY. IT DIDN'T STOP DEEP THROAT IN THE NIXON ADMINISTRATION. WHEN YOU HERE OF PEOPLE LIKE WENDY GREUEL AND ILLEGAL MONEY OR THIEF OF FUNDS, OF COURSE SHE WILL WANT AN INVESTIGATION. THE MEDIA JUST PUT A LIGHT ON IT. POLITIANS ALWAYS DO THIS AFTER THE FACT. DID YOU NOTICE HOW MANY POLITIANS ARE INVOLVED CARRYING SIGNS IN THE SUPERMARKET STRIKE. WHAT A BUNCH OF POLITICAL GRANDSTANDING ALL TO GAIN UNION SUPPORT FOR THEMSELVES, DON'T FALL FOR IT.
