Meet Scott Svonkin

Scott Svonkin.
Does this name sound familiar?
It should.
From the California Credit Union Page:
"Mr. Svonkin was elected to the CCU Board of Directors in 2003. Mr. Svonkin is President of Svonkin Consulting, Chairman of the L.A. County Insurance Commission, Vice-President of B’nai B’rith, and member of the California Respiratory Care Board. Mr. Svonkin served as Chief of Staff for a member of the California Legislature. Mr. Svonkin worked in the office of the Mayor, City of Los Angeles representing the Mayor at community events and special projects. Mr. Svonkin has also served as the liaison to the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Commission. He coordinated the saving of a historical monument, the Edward Strong residence. He served as Vice-President of the Jewish Federation Council Valley Alliance and Chair of the Community Relations Committee. Mr. Svonkin received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from California State University, Northridge."

Scott Svonkin has also been mentioned on Mayor Sam a few times as well.

Which brings me to my question of the day.

Why is Scott Svonkin going door to door in Sunland-Tujunga trying to get
people to support a Home Depot in our town?
I only ask this because Scotts past would seem to indicate that he believes
in community empowerment, and has been an advocate for social justice, has fought for handgun control, and served as chief of staff to Assemblyman Paul Koretz ( D-West Hollywood).

Combine this with the fact that his employer in this venture is none other than Kerman Maddox of KCAL 9 and Dakota Communications, and I find myself just scratching my head in bewilderment.

The brief bio I posted above is from a few years ago, so I don't really know what he is up to these days, except that he is in our town, going door to door, insisting that people send in a form letter to Councilmember Wendy Greuel demanding that Home Depot be allowed to open.

What circumstances can transform a guy ,with all these accomplishments, to simply becoming a door to door shill for Home Depot?

I await the wisdom of the Brain Trust!

This guy, Scott. He has got some chutzpa to come up here and ask people to support a Home Depot store. We've been fighting this project for over a year! His distinguished career must have gone down the drain. Maybe he's getting paid for each Home Depot supporter he gets? I don't think he will make much money around here.

hmm. I don't understand your gibberish, 11:02 pm.
I looked at Scott Svonkin's webpage from the attached link. In his bio it says he is committed to improving the lives of families like his own. Things like safe neighborhoods. And prosperous, healthy and diverse neighborhoods. Hmm? I wonder if he has thought about what will happen to our neighborhood if Home Depot were to open? Would it be a prosperous neighborhood? Would it be safe? Would it be a healthy place to live? And how healthy would the children who go to school a block away from the site be? Would they be better off from breathing all those diesel fumes? I wonder if Mr. Svonkin and his family would want to live right behind that lot. Yes, you too could have the Home Depot trucks in your backyard! Hey, Mr. Scott Svonkin, don't you want to live down the street from a Home Depot? Yeah, come on. Let's be neighbors. We can all be stuck in traffic together. One big happy family.

Home Depot is listed as one of Dakota Communications current clients.

http://www.dakcomm.com/clients.html

Dakota's list of clients reads like the "Who's Who" of controversial real estate development projects.

Scott Svonkin likes himself so much and wants his name out there so bad that he even adopted part of the freeway. I think it's the 170. He ran during secession.

I don't think he's gay, but I too think he is a weenie.

I cannot remember who he worked for during secession, but he got fired. I do remember that.

Makes sense that he worked for development whore Koretz. He'll probably be pimping for tobacco next, like Koretz, who is helping the tobacco front group CJAC win a seat on the BOE.

I think svonkin pimped for koretz. A worse district I have never seen. We got no state money for anything (other than the orange line?) but we did get a bunch of gay friendly legislation. The 42nd district is now beyond slum and I am thankfully getting the heck out.

I think svonkin was his chief of staff and koretz fired him cause koretz's dick is closet fag and did not want svonkin to come out.

I am voting for feuer as my last act, only because he is not gay, he is a moron (how do you lose the city attorney race by not sucking on maxine water's rusty clit is beyond me), but not gay - abbe land is anti-israel.

Anyone who voted for Rocky over Mike Feuer should be ashamed. I already know they're truly sorry.

Scott has a family and is trying to support them; is this a crime?

If Scotts life has sunk so low that he has to mess up other peoples lifes
to support his own, then now we know how he got to this point in the first place....he has no values.
He should get a job bagging groceries,
or go to work for a Home Depot.

I've known Scott for over 20 years, and these whiny little piss-and-moans make me sick! What would make a guy like Scott go door to door for Home depot? Try this on; it's called growing up and being a responsible member of society and supporting a family. On top of which, just because you have some whacked out notion that the Home Depots and Walmarts of the world take away from community empowerment, doesn't mean the rest of your community shouldn't benefit from low prices and lots of stock. You and all the residents of your community have a choice as to where you shop.

Apparently, you don't appreciate the tax revenue and jobs these stores can generate. You'd probably rather pay higher taxes in other areas to keep some antequated hardware store selling overpriced tools just so you can feel you've "done good" and saved your community.

By the way, to one of the anonymous commenters. Are you implying that there are data somewhere that show that Home Depot causes communities to become less prosperous and more dangerous? What a ridiculous leap in logic!

In the 20+ years I've known Scott, one thing I've never seen him do is conpromise his principals or integrity. To take a three-year old bio and pick it apart and then try to apply it fit your warped argument is bizarre at best and a cheap shot at worst. Before you lambast a person's character, do a little bit more research than looking at a bio on a web page.

But I guess if you can't make your point with exagerated hyperbole, why post at all, right?

Idiots!

Oh, and to the anti-semitic homophobe..."Gay Cocken Af En Yam, Schmuck!"

I was thinking about voting for Scott's opponent, but those anti gay comments were so offensive, I just can't make myself join your group.
