Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Tuesday

Because of the budget shortfalls facing local schools, incoming boss of the LAUSD John Deasy is going to take on some of the pain and cut his salary.  Instead of earning $325K per year, Deasy will only get a $275K annual payout.  Despite the great pain this will cause him, do not worry.  Deasy will still earn more than the Superintendent of the New York City school system, a far larger district than LAUSD.

The Times says business is scoping out the Downtown area for new locales because of talks of a new football stadium.  Or could it be that retailers such as CVS, Walgreens and Fresh N Easy are just following the population growth in the City Center?  When Gucci moves in next to Staples however, we will know it's because of Farmers' Field.

Barack Obama campaigned on shutting down the Bush-era camps at Guantamo Bay and ending torture of terrorist suspects. The camps are still open and it's pretty much business as usual.  No wonder some liberals are quite perturbed.

The DWP is passing out "rain barrels" to residents in Hollywood, which are actually just modified trash cans. Most likely they will become breeding grounds for mosquitos. An ironic quote from a participant: "The government isn’t going to solve all these problems for us."

Phil Jennerjahn is still hung up on gay issues.

Mayor Sam,

While it is no surprise that Phil Jennerjahn is a vicious homophobe, I think we can also add that he is anti-Semitic.

Let's look at his own words to indict him of this accusation.

In listing the most dangerous liberals in America, Phil Jennerjahn cites "I would move Kagan, Sotomayor, and Ginsberg way up in the rankings because of their potential, through judicial activism, to ruin this country."

But higher up in the list published by Town Hall Magazine is Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.

Odd, how Phil will identify the lower (i.e. less dangerous) Supreme Court Justices, who are a Latina and two female Jews, but not the perceived higher ranking, non-Jew, non-Latino Stephen Breyer.

Point proven. I think we can now declare Phil to be a "dangerous enemy of Latinos and Jews," too.

1203 - you are reading too much into Phil's "most dangerous enemies" list.

For all of his rants, he is not a racist or anti-semetic. Those are reflex accusations that have become all too common whenever anyone takes an unpopular position with ultra-liberals.

Phil is simply a dangerous enemy of himself who receives way too much attention on this blog.

1:27pm,

You haven't read enough Phil posts. He clearly harbors ill feelings toward gays, Jews and non-Conservatives.

By non-Conservatives, I mean a whole lot of moderates whose views don't align with Phil's.

He is a reactionary, and you don't have to be a liberal to recognize it. With respect to how much attention Phil gets on this blog, that's all controlled by Higby who won't retract his assertion that Phil is "smart."

I hope that this comment won't "launch me into national prominence."
