Mayor Sam readers know that the special election to fill the City Council seat in District 2 is coming up very soon. The vote will take place on Dec. 8th.
Above is a photo of some of the members of "Team Chris".
Some of the voters in CD 2 have decided to support a non-career politician. A joyous, optimistic businesswoman who carved her own career path before seeking office. A woman who has not lied to or abandoned voters. A woman who has the support of our local law enforcement. Business people who prefer lower taxes and higher employment rates support her also . These are all members of "Team Chris".
However, not all voters in CD 2 agree.
Some voters in CD 2 prefer a residency-averse, state-bankrupting, job-abandoning, opportunity-chasing, career-climbing, tantrum-throwing, profanity-using, hypocrisy-displaying, prisoner-releasing, freedom-stealing, budget-destroying Socialist .
These are voters who call themselves "Team Paul" .

Wow Phil. You've out-done yourself. I love the picture of the don't-give-a-shit Controller with the absolutely-useless constituency services group that would kiss the ass of money-bags Chris for a job. Mot to be out done, in tow is the pot-smoking would be drug-czar of CD2. This is certainly a great team. I can count on my streets being safe, my roads being clean and without potholes, my developers tame and life good because I will be made to be happy as I will have all the marijuana I want.
Think about it. Chris lost a court decision but she will gain lots of cash from the new triangle: pot converted to cash, cash cleaned and distributed to Controller pals, who in turn provide it to fund an annuity over the next 14 years so Chris can get back from the community all that she wanted to give.
Phil, you disappoint me. By the way, I saw you on Channel 35 in public comment last week. You've gained a little weight my dear...and lose the hat.

Actually Sheftel is a sell-out to his marijuana patient community because Essel - as she said at the last SOHA debate - supports Cooley and Trutanich in wanting to shut down ALL shops, says ALL sales are illegal even when they're nonprofit, that ANY money changing hands even to buy fertilizer or seeds let alone pay rent and utilities is illegal. So Sheftel clearly has been promised something for being a sell-out.
The council today decided to limit the number of shops anywhere between 70-200, but agrees with cities like Oakland and West Hollywood that it's not illegal in principle to ban anyplace money changes hands. Cooley wants to bust and arrest all shops in West Hollywood, even though there are only 4 in that town and no one is complaining about them.
So Wendy and E$$el the D'Arcy Girls have one sell-out Shifty Sheftel, 3 votes for sure.
Phil, as you continue to call everyone you don't like a "socialist," a person can only wonder what you'd say if you really did meet a socialist.
As I remember, you wrote that members of the Nazi party were socialists because the word "socialist" appears in the name of their party. Of course that's as absurd as saying that the leaders of the People's Republic of China are Republicans.

10:25pm - are you nuts? It was that fat fuck Koretz who led the charge today to legalize marijuana sales in LA, and couldn't grasp the idea that it was against the law to sell dope to kids. CD5 thought they had it bad with Weiss, now they have this Mr. Potato Head lookalike who doesn't give a crap about his constituents and wants LA to become the pot capitol of the nation. He's the idiot who proudly calls himself the king of pot.
When will the recall campaign start? When Koretz was waddling his fat ass around the homeowners associations, he assured them he would do something about pot shops. They thought he meant stop them, in fact he seemed pleased that his Council District has more pot shops than any of the other 14. That's his great achievement. What a waste of space.
Everyone is so quick to write off Essel's chances.
I am not endorsing either candidate, but let me say money does talk.

Hey, how come Jan Perry isn't getting a blast on MS for her manipulation of the medical marijuana debate today?
The AEG paid-for spokesperson was frustrated when the City failed to deliver her on her demand for an ordinance based on West Hollywood's liberal "drug sales or OK" ordinance, and proceeded to sulk and glare at anyone who disagreed with her.
Is AEG getting into the pot-shop business? Why else would Perry be throwing her weight around today?
Perry has tried to manipulate the sales of hamburgers, now it's pot. What next? Billboards? Opps, too late, she's already messed that up (at AEG's request) so maybe Perry thinks she's going to launch her Mayoral campaign on a bed of Kush Cash from her favorite pot shops. Why not? Nobody cares.
Phil, don't try to reason with the people with facts about people's voting record or positions. This election is about other "Mayberry" kind of stuff.
I stand with Richard Alarcon in endorsing Paul Krekorian. Thank you to all the neighborhood council participants who join Richard Alarcon in support for Krekorian.

All the money and clever Shallman mail pieces mean nothing at this point. Turnout is going to be so low that this race all comes down to the field generals: Burnside v. Hacopian.
With all due respect to 1120, I think Krekorian would agree with me. Rest assured, he is not taking anything for granted. He's fighting as if he is the underdog...and maybe he is at this stage.
Zine and Smith take away some of the sting of the Villaraigosa connection as they are not seen as allies of AV. Granted there's still enough to taint Chris somewhat. That and the IBEW connection.
It all comes down to what segment of the voters will show up on the 8th. Don't assume a majority of the voters will be astute.

Loser: Eric Hacopian.
Win or lose, Hacopian has shown that he is a one-trick pony. He can only win a race if he works for an Armenian candidate, and inflames ethnic tensions by making an issue of something just to mobilize his base. Chris Essel met with Turkish leaders? So do plenty of other officials, including high-ranking Armenians. You made it an issue Hacopian. Probably just to motivate your base. That sir, is gross.
What’s grosser are the allegations that have appeared on this blog and elsewhere about your absentee tactics. They confirm your one-trick status.
You’ve also lost a lot of your friends, as you struggle to save your machine from its death throes. You worked for Villaraigosa as recently as the Cedillo-Chu campaign, no? Your crapping on him publicly is a *crappy* thing to do to a friend, and I suspect Antonio will not forget it.

Again, win or lose, John Shallman has shown that he needs immense resources to have a fighting chance in a campaign. Yes, it has been overblown how much Essel outspent Krekorian, because of Krekorian’s other campaign accounts, and the help of people like Felipe Fuentes.
But if you can’t win with heaven and earth moving mountains for you, you have problems. But Shallman has shown that he needs beaucoup bucks just to be competitive. That makes you a Loser. Next!
Loser: Mike Higby
Higby’s open shilling for Krekorian has caused several posters to openly question whether he was somehow paid off. True or not, that’s a huge sign something is wrong. You need to mature as a journo-blogger and peel through the layers of BS.
Even while “endorsing” Krekorian, Ron Kaye described Krekorian as “liberal”:
“It says a lot when a liberal Democratic political machine and union bosses turns its back on a liberal Democrat to support a Hollywood lobbyist.”
It says something too when a Libertarian anti-Villaraigosa guy endorses a guy whose voting record matched, by a factor of 98%, Villaraigosa’s record in the Assembly. A guy who hired all of Villaraigosa’s lackeys for his campaign.
When the world questions how on earth you could support a budget-destroying liberal, you ought to listen. When you endorse a candidate who stands against everything you do, you become a Hypocrite. And that makes you a Loser. Next!
