BREAKING NEWS: Krekorian Gets Democratic Nod
San Fernando Valley Assemblyman Paul Krekorian has garnered the endorsement of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party for the vacant Council seat in District 2 Tuesday evening by a significant margin. According to our sources the vote broke as follows:
Paul Krekorian - 111 Votes
Chris Essel - 22 Votes
Tamar Galatzan - 5 Votes
No Endorsement - 20 Votes
Though the race is a non-partisan one, support from the party organizations bring resources such as money, volunteers, phone banks, etc. Insiders say this gives Krekorian a significant leg up.

Phil is just jealous because he can't get any endorsements for anything. His mother probably wouldn't even endorse him.
With the amount of people power these endorsements bring the other candidates are going to have a hard time turning out voters. Tamar should follow the democrats lead and endorse Paul.
How did Essel beat Tamar?
Tamar was a big young Democrat and active in the party.
Wendy was making calls to the party delegates for Essel all weekend. A lot of good that did.
She got rolled.
He's in the Assembly leadership - he better get the party nod.
The real test is whether he's anywhere near Essel when the money reports come out on Thursday.
22 Votes for Essel, that is what AV and his boys are worth in LACDP.
The Democratic Party 'nod' is huge for Krekorian, and probably will seal the deal. Of the other two in the big 3, Essel and Galatzan were really not in touch and that will be the way it is at the election.
The Democrats will follow the party line for the most part, and while Essel has a lot of money, and Galatzan will play up her heroism as a crime fighter, the bottom line is that Krekorian now owns the Democratic vote, and will therefore face an independent in the run off.
These insider candidates are cooked. Has anyone noticed all the outrage that's out there. Once the voters smell that Paul or any of the candidates are current officeholders, you can forget getting their vote. We want an outsider to represent us, not a career politician who shamelessly jumps from seat to seat. Mark my words!

In her speech Essel announced that she has picked up the endorsement of Gray Davis.
The people voting on the this endorsement were grassroots Democrats, not party bigwigs. Some party bigwigs like Essel because she's been throwing around movie money for years.
someone should tell chris essel that when you go to a dem party endorsement meeting, you shouldnt be leaning up against the wall all night long. you need to actually TALK to the delegates. This isnt going to be handed to you on a silver platter honey, you're going to have to fight for it.

They are all abandoning official government positions out of pure greed and Machiavellian lust for power. If they wanted City Council so bad... why not run for it in the first place? They could have run against Wendy Gruel two years ago.

The PPL has no shame. Curious how they found some other Serbian/ Croatian guy whose name ends in "ich" to co-chair. This is a huge ethnic clan thing for Trutanich.
He's done nothing to brag about, the LAPD brass are already bristling at how stupid he is, like that stunt he pulled bursting into a routine nightly review and sending 100 cops home because they didn't have search warrants for the bars they were going to inspect that night. Only to be informed that under state Bureau of Alcohol and Tobacco rules LAPD has been following for 35 years, they don't need them. But he wouldn't listen until "proof" was presented to him next day. How much did it cost to pay those cops that night, while the work didn't get done? We don't have time for this bafoon to learn on the job.
As for the billboard ban this week his and Usher's groupies have been crowing about, including Stewart = Walter Moore says on his site that it's a bonanza for lawyers who will not rub their hands in glee as they sue the city. Because the city has just passed a law that makes it illegal to honor the 2006 settlement the City Attorney's office made to settle an earlier lawsuit. The ICO was a way to honor that agreement but limit it to sign districts, keeping them out of residential neighborhoods.
Moore says Trutanich and Usher's rushing this through because they were afraid of losing a lawsuit later this month, while the council will be on vacation.
The billboard lawyers are jumping up and down, thanks idiot Trutanich.

Being part of the Democrat majority in Congress is not a big plus right now - it's something Koretz had to overcome, he tried to play it down. I don't know how big a boon it will be to be seen as the Democrat party endorsed candidate. It may help in parts of Sherman Oaks, but groups like SOHA are controlled by older, more conservative homeowners who don't care about the environment and issues other than their pocketbooks.rimlo

Michael, you couldn't possibly think that Mary Benson would be in the land developer-hand-pumping group of candidates. If you do, then you don't get why some of us KNOW she or Zuma is the right person for the job. I don't know about Essavi, nor do I care but I do know that neither Benson or Zuma will allow any developer to interfere with their decisions. The question is, can they get other council members to go along with them.

Essel hasn't even been a democrat for more then a year. The only Dem events she's ever been to were fundraisers where she threw around that paramount money.

Someone said that Sheftel and David Hernandez might have offered Zuma the apt. in return for an endorsement later on. But Sheftel's not going to make the run-off anyway so who knows, unless it's just to keep Zuma off HIS back and to go after the others.
Sheftel's going to have to worry about paying his own rent soon.
The Times is reporting that 2 pot shops in West L A were just busted by the feds with cooperation from local officials. Some poor guard dog even got shot.
Jane Usher told us at the meeting of NC's last Saturday that in their opinion, the local law allowing shops to operate had been too lax, and their reading of state law is that while it allows personal growing and smoking for medical reasons, it says nothing about allowing sales and shops so all 600 shops are illegal. Saving the council time and money of having to determine which ones opened illally, they all did.
So Sheftel had better be looking for a new source of income soon or be prepared to challenge Trutanich.
Everyone from Walter Moore to private lawyers are saying Usher and Trutanich's new billboard ban is just a make-work project for lawyers, because it violates the legally-binding 2006 agreement Rocky entered into, for better or worse, while it continues to give preferential treatment to some -- here's another one that's pollen to the lawyer bees.

Though he may not want to continue following that path, didn't work out so well.
Who is left to endorse Tamar? She's not qualified. She couldn't even get VICA and her husband stepped down so that it didn't look bad. She wasn't even qualified for school board. She only won because she got the Antonio money.

Those three signed an agreement to pay a $2000 fine assessed by the Los Angeles Ethics Commission.
