Big local political stories hit on Tuesday. The Autry National Center museum in Griffith Park has (for now) put the brakes on a controversial expansion plan. Los Angeles County Democrats gave their nod to CD2 candidate Paul Krekorian in a landslide over fellow Dems Chris Essel and Tamar Galatzan. In shocking news Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety General Manager Andrew Adelman is the main suspect in the alleged rape of a woman July 10. Ken Draper writing at LA Citybeat warns that the results of the CD2 race will have a significant impact on the City's Neighborhood Councils. The winner of the race will go on to take Wendy Greuel's role as chairperson of the City Council's Education and Neighborhoods Committee. Given Chris Essel and Tamar Galatzan's support for financial disclosure for members of the volunteer panels, its no doubt the election of either of them would be a disaster for the boards. That's likely why a significant number of Neighborhood Council leaders have endorsed Paul Krekorian who has opposed financial disclosure and whose staff is well know to many of them.
Mayor Villaraigosa is supporting efforts to turn over 50 new LAUSD schools to charter school operators. The Mayor recently wrote in an LA Times op-ed piece "For too long, leaders at every level of government have defended a status quo that serves the interests of adults more than children; that gives bureaucrats a near monopoly over public education." Still, the Mayor faces fierce opposition to the plan from the teachers' union, UTLA President A.J. Duffy told NBC News the Mayor's plan will “cause chaos in our public education.”
And finally Zuma Dogg noted the presence of members of the Los Angeles County Civil Grand Jury at today's Los Angeles City Council meeting. The Civl Grand Jury investigates local government agencies and can act on individual citizen complaints. Zuma says that the members, identified by their Grand Jury namebadges, sat through public comment on non-agenda items at the beginning of the meeting and then left at the conclusion of public comment without saying a word. Zuma wonders if the Grand Jury is investigating complaints that he submitted to the ACLU accusing the City Council of violating the free speech rights of citizens who come before it to speak. The best way to pull the former fishwrap of record's op-ed page off of life support and let it expire in ignominy is to give increasing amounts of its real estate to local fluffy politicians rather than local tough writers.

how do you come up with only Krekorian? virtually everyone in the room was opposed. I think its imperative to have some transparency and Zuma is calling for it.
I think its fair, if you want to make decisions affecting the community, show us your interests, so we can tell if its a conflict.
Essel, Crakorian and Galatzan all have planty to hide. or they would be in favor of this.
It is incredibly irresponsible and speculative to ponder what the purpose of the Grand Jury is.
Guess what, Mayor S? They don't convene a grand jury because a gadfly's 1st Amendment rights MAY or may NOT have been violated, although I agree that they were.
THAT would not be a crime. It would be a civil rights matter UNLESS doing so was done as a conspiracy and/or to cover up a crime.
Also, a grand jury would not make a venture to such a public forum, and wearing their badges and sit in the front row if they were to be there to observe something.
I don't expect the homeless CD2 candidate to know this, but I would expect that this blog would know better. Christ, why would I expect MATURITY and RESEARCH to be a part of THIS blog.
Why isn't the big news of the day that Zuma Dogg has his own apartment now in CD2?

What brought out the anti-710 fwy. extension people out to City Council today's public comment as a "non-agenda" item?
The time was cut to i minute apiece and it seems all non-agenda people were limited to one minute to speak. This included the black woman who appears to find only negative views to express when it comes to LAPD, today being the General Jeff handcuffing and detention the other day, mentioned in this blog.
She referred to the LAPD's action of a continuation of their white racist policies, but the officers doing the stop were reported on the reporting blog as "Officer Galvez( badge number 37964) and his partner Officer Valenzuela(badge number unknown)." The Spanish-surname hints at the big possibility that the "white" racist idea should be saved for another day when she can check details first.
The city council doesn't care anyway, and especially doesn't have to deal with non-agenda matters.
Looks like Item 1's outcome is going to give mom-and-pop motel/hotel owners, the most heavily impacted by the "residential hotel" treatment, an inappropriate and tougher status in their operations. They will be entering the world of the regular landlord-tenant relations in L.A.
It's something that's created by city council to manipulate statistics and produce numbers for the housing situation in L.A. under the guise of maintaining housing units. A little income generation along the way is another goal of the Council in all of it's actions.
MAyor Sam is campaigning for Krekorian, so take anything he says or spins with a grain of salt.

What Is The Los Angeles Civil Grand Jury?
The main function of the Civil Grand Jury is to investigate county, city, and joint-power agencies. This is a significant civil function. The Grand Jury acts in a "watch-dog" capacity, by examining carefully and completely, the operations of various government agencies within Los Angeles County. What Is The Term Of Service?

Seems to me that if anything the council, especially Garcetti, Perry and Dion as City Attorney, have been stricter about watching rules that are supposed to prevent public commenters from making personal and disparaging comments about people.
Naturally Zuma assumes everything is all about him, that's neither here nor there when it comes to facts.

that's no different than someone dropping out of the other city elections in exchange for a payback appointment.
based on zuma's desperate circumstances, it shouldn't surprise anyone if he does that, and endorses one of the others at the last moment.

Yes they have put the brakes on the expansion for now. But they are hitting the airwaves whining about the Friends of the Southwest Museum and Councilman Jose Huizar. Blaming them for what is happening. The only problem here is that their Empress Jackie did not get what she wanted and is having a tantrum.
Jackie Autry’s plans, from the very beginning were to take possession of the Southwest museum collection and make it Autry’s. To have the Southwest Museum share equal footing as it was agreed in the merger would not give Jackie Autry the status she seeks. To be the only ONE to posses such a magnificent collection is her ultimate goal. She is use to get what she wants that why she is willing to spend millions of dollars for the “Dream Team” of Latham and Watkins, lobbyist and supporters.

Zuma does matter. He matters to all of us who are voting for him. We're not afraid he'll cave in to developers. In fact, we think he'll do the opposite since he's lived on the streets.
