Morning Briefs and Outtakes with this Backstage Exclusive from the Jackson Memorial

"All of these Resources thanks to the kind Contributions from AEG"
We give you this exclusive from backstage at the Michael Jackson Memorial. This was send to me and I share it so one can gauge the "city resources" on hand. You will find references to city employees in bold.
On Tuesday I joined thousands of others at the funeral services at the Staples Center, the difference is that I was backstage with the artist and many high ranking Police and Fire Personnel. I entered Staples Center before 6:00am and spent a little time looking at the stage set-up and noticing the only people around were police officers and Staple's employee's. I felt a little out of place since I was the only one in street clothes, although I was in a suit, no other public was in the building at that time. Just before 7:00am I was asked by staff if I wanted breakfast, which I accepted (you know me...... I ate two plates) and felt very comfortable. Many high ranking L.A.P.D. Officer were walking around including SWAT Officers with high powered semi-auto-matic rifles. It was just shy of seeing Military type of presence. Some of the early arrivals included..... Smokey Robinson, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Stevie Wonder, and Lionel Richie with his daughter. Other artist arrived through a different entrance such as.... Brooke Shields, Usher, P. Diddy, Mike Tyson and Rev. Sharpton, whom I seen all backstage. When I walked to the Producers Office in Chick Hearns 'Room' shortly after 9:00am and looked at the T.V. monitor and seen the procession is when I started to get nervous. I had no idea that they were going to actually bring the family and services to Staples Center.
I had been recognized enough most of the morning, that my presence was accepted and even utilized for assisting with minor details for the arrangements. The time came when the procession approached and parked at the 'Ramp' (right next to a Heavy Armored SWAT Truck) and the Family brought in the casket. I was close enough to assist with holding open the black curtain and seeing all things take place within 6 feet from where I was standing. I had no idea how beautiful the casket was until I seen it and touched the high polished gold toned casket draped with red roses. They immediately placed the casket behind 2 double doors with about six Police Officers in the doors and about 10 Officers outside the doors. I stood about 10 feet away across the hall until the entire Jackson Family was ready to be seated. All the artist left the dressing rooms and the Family took their seats, that is when the double doors opened and moved the casket into position before the Ceremony was to begin. Again I was only within 6 feet of the casket while the Police Officers held the black curtains heading toward the entrance to the Arena area. This time I did not help as much since the program was about to begin. The choir started, the black curtain split and the ceremony commenced, with a walking procession just 3 to 5 feet in front of me before the light turned on and the audience had a first glimpse of the show that would be seen by billions world-wide.
During my time backstage I had a chance to have Stevie Wonder, Brooke Shields Usher, and Mariah Carey sign my Gold Program which will undoubtedly be a remarkable keepsake. As I was there, staff from the Mayor's Office asked if I could get them a copy for Mr. Villaraigosa, Fire Chief Berry, Chief Fry, and a couple of others. I also handed copies to Captain Chow, L.A.P.D public relations Officer and another copy for Police Chief Bratton. I thank them all for a wonderful job and handling this event. After all things closed, lunch was served and I walked outside to see the light of day and still thousands of people roamed the streets.
I will never forget this experience and the many pleasurable times I have had, not only at this event but all the events I attend regularly. Thanks to many of you reading this, that I may be able to proceed and achieve many great things with support of family and friends.
I am grateful to the Jackson Family and the City of Los Angeles for providing this exclusive opportunity. Thank you to Michael for be an outstanding humanitarian and his success as an entertainer.

"It's not what you know, It's who knows you."

.....and the rest of us pay for this exclusive thanks to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

** Ouch!! You pinched me. The City Ethics Commission issued a $2,000 fine Tuesday to a San Fernando Valley-based campaign committee that for the last year has been under investigation by Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley.
In a 3-0 vote, the commission fined Citizens for Dependable and Reliable Leadership, which spent more than $54,000 in the 2005 mayoral election, along with individuals affiliated with the committee -- three of them politicians.
And once again Stephen Kaufman is brought in to clean up the ethical mess.

Isn't this kinda an old story?

And what's with the centering of the text? That's what's on my mind.

You have to deal with it.

That was a very touching post. Thank you Red Spot. I was right in the moment with the story.

- I don't like the way the mayor is treating Jan Perry (or his own staff) and I think that Dennis Zine and City Attorney Trutanich have the people's interest in mind. On the day of the memorial I heard on the news that patches of sidewalk were being rented out to foreign press for $10,000. Who got that money?

The council is acting like they don't want to touch this one with a ten-foot pole, except for Parks and Hahn who have their own reasons for a little well deserved “schadenfreude” when it come to the mayor (and perhaps a few others). How can anyone blame them?

KCAL reported tonight that the City Attorney is going to look into the expense of the memorial and possibly place a lien on the Jackson estate. That is a good place to start. I'm glad we have a real attorney representing the people, not an insider who would just look the other way and tell the people their money is none of their business like the mayor is doing right now. What arrogance!

AEG and the mayor tried to pull a fast one on the people of Los Angeles. City Attorney Trutanich is good at catching people with their hand in the cookie jar. I think he will straighten this mess out and give us some answers and solutions that make sense.

So who paid for the Mayor's trip to Africa?

AEG's owner is a major contributor to the Academy of Achievement, and it was the Academy who decided that the person who appeared on the cover of Los Angeles Magazine with the word "Failure" all over him, deserved an award for "exceptional achievement."

There's no way that Peter Anshit (AEG's owner) could have any influence over the Academy's award, let alone their paying for the Mayor's trip to South Africa to collect the award.

AEG/Anshit has good reason to think and thank the Mayor for exceptional achievement.

The Mayor's given AEG a $5M gift of free police service for the launch of the Dead Jackson Word Tour, and the Mayor could not possibly have been the person who told the Planning and Land Use Management committee to ignore Trutanich's request to postpone approval of a huge digital billboard at AEG's Staples Center.

Coincidence?

AEG gets two massive breaks in less than 10 days?

The forces of good and evil are clashing over this, and unless Los Angeles wakes up and takes a stand over this blatant display of Chicago politics, the forces of evil will win.

"Foxy Lady" is some PR hack for Trutanich and Zine -- cough up who you are, suddenly coming onto the scene around the election is more than coincidence, and Foxy Lady has nothing but flattering garbage to say about those 2 and bad garbage about the Mayor and "the other guy" Jack Weiss. Gee I wonder who Foxy Lady really is... And IF Higby's ghost will even allow this comment.

BTW Janice Hahn doesn't have "schadenfreude" about the Mayor -- she never supported him, openly criticized Weiss for years along with Zine, and has long been known to support Trutanich 1) to "get even" for her brother who Antonio defeated, and 2) because they're both from the South Bay and want to shift more power down there. Bernie has gone against Antonio and Bratton on expanding the LAPD every single year during Budget hearings, and isn't called "Bitter Bernie" for nothing. As for the rest, mostly towers of jello with a finger to the wind.

Police trying to unravel case of car chase that led to discovery of a body

By PE News on July 7, 2009

Detectives today were questioning several people in a murder-kidnapping case that included a chase from South Gate to South Los Angeles and an hours-long standoff.

Someone reported a kidnapping shortly before 1 a.m. in the 10200 block of Kauffman Avenue in South Gate shortly before 1 a.m., a sheriff's spokesman said.

Responding officers chased a van LA area freeways and streets, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Greg Owens of the Southeast Station.

A person who got out of the van was detained, and another person ran into a home and refused to come out, police said. A homicide victim was found in the van, said sheriff's Lt. Adam Ellison of the Century Station.

Deputies with a sheriff's Special Weapons Team surrounded the home, and the standoff lasted until about 8 a.m., when deputies took several people into custody for questioning, sheriff's Sgt. Diane Hecht said.

With the LAPD focused on security for the Michael Jackson memorial at Staples Center, the barricade was handled by the sheriff's department.

Detectives were working to determine if anyone in custody was involved with the death of the person whose body was found in the van, Hecht said.

11:36 pm: "The forces of good and evil are clashing over this," even as they call AEG's guy "Anshit." Gee, what religion is that? I know, the Zine/Trutanich/Cooley religion, because that's exactly the SAME rhetoric they used over and over in that ridiculously deceptive campaign and Cooley even used the good vs. evil stuff swearing in Trutanich, and he's used it himself over and over...

Hmm, the anon. voice of Foxy Lady or still another persona? They must be frustrated because only Zine has joined their righteous Christian crusade, Zine of the backstabbing foul mouth which is characteristic of this self- righteous religion. Hmmm...

This original post seems to be targeted at the LAPD deployment. What is missed is what LAPD was preparing for... fans rushing the casket.

An argument can be made that the overwhelming show of force headed off any riots or unruliness before it began.

I say it again, until the CM stop issuing waivers , and get rid of their free cars/gas and other perks, and take a SIGNIFICANT salary cut, they can STFU about the 1.4 Million on the memorial or anything else they want to grand-stand about.

The Mayor may be back, but rumor has it that the person who runs the city is still gone for a couple more weeks.

So, if you are wondering why nothing is running smoothly around here, just take another two weeks off and go tothe beach, and when she returns, all will be well again.

Did Zuma Dogg report this? Nah, know why not?

It is because he only knows what he reads in the discarded copies of the LA Times he finds on the floor at Starbucks and filches off this blog and LA Observed.

Mayor Will Have to Report "Free" Vacation

12:30 PM July 13, 2009
Mayor Villaraigosa's spokesman Matt Szabo refuses to comment on the mayor's (and his girlfriend's) recent vacation, reportedly a 9-day trip to Africa.

But IF it was paid for by an outside group, Villaraigosa will likely have to report it to the state Fair Political Practices Commission, according to rules furnished by the city's Ethics Commission.

The L.A. Times has reported that a Washington-based organization called the Academy of Achievement bankrolled the mayor's travel to South Africa last week. By the way, as I reported last week, this is a group that gets funding from Philip Anschutz, of AEG fame. Anschutz is listed as a patron on the organization's website.

By the way, this same group paid for a trip the mayor took last year, providing him with $4371.97 in travel-related expenses.

According to the mayor's most recent California Form 700 (required by the state of certain officeholders to report gifts that include travel), Villaraigosa received reimbursement for 7 trips last year from various groups, including Princeton University and the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles.

You can see his most recent filing here:

You know the gang banger Mayor is going to thrive because he needs any pr he can get. I haven't seen any politican get as much bad publicity as Antonio has all week. Angelenos are not letting up and are going to BOYCOTT LA LIVE, NOKIA and all the restaurants. Summer Nights Lights wasted $200,000 on t-shirt the Village Idiot Jeff Carr bought. This program is a sham and nothing more then having more LAPD cops in a Park.
7:30 P.M Attorney General Holder will meet with community youth and families participating in Los Angeles' anti-gang program Summer Night Lights with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. This will be a photo opportunity.

Daily News has an editorial about how Nuch dropped his chief campaign pledge to drop the lawsuit against Wendy's office so that she has the right to audit him whenever she wants. His saying "come on in" as a personal favor and invitation isn't enough, as the editorial points out. It's about the principle and must apply to him in future, not just NOW when it's Delgadillo's history that she'd be looking at.

Even Ron Kaye was on Doug today saying that many are disappointed that instead Trutanich has chosen to start with two "grandstanding" efforts like the Jacksons and blasting the CRA. The Jacksons is a one-time issue and drop in the bucket by comparison, it just happens to be where the cameras are.

His campaign manager John Thomas has been on the talk shows talking about how exciting it's been for Trutanich to be interviewed by news from around the world, Hong Kong to Germany, and what a huge platform this is for future public office.

Reveals his real stripes.

"schadenfreude" is defined as "a largely unanticipated delight in the misfortune of others," simple version. Janice Hahn and Parks can't be accused of this exactly because they have arguably sought to the Mayor's "misfortunes" or setbacks and have done their best to precipitate it. But as the definition notes, Germans distinguish between "secret" and "public" schadenfreude, so they've had the "secret" variety. Even Rosendahl has showed this - maybe all his flip-flopping isn't so much just dumb as a passive- aggressive cover.

While Zine has had the "public" variety and in fact is openly telling the talk shows things like "the Mayor stole the idea of getting private financing for the Lakers parade for his own PR purposes," and he and Trutanich going full-bore against the Mayor's office while he was out of the country, blasint "his" CRA etc., is hardly "private."

Good word, this "schadenfreude." A favorite of Joe Mailander's - miss ya! - except Joe can't be Foxy Lady because he was one of the first to call Trutanich for what he is, a "tribal" / old boyz' rep of boastful old white guys from the suburbs who look and act more like mob bosses than savvy electeds of a major city, something like that... damn, he took down his website.
